4 Stronger Together 4 From 1 August 2018 we plan to become part of Activate Learning, alongside Reading College, City of Oxford College and Banbury and Bicester College. This will provide students, staff and employers in the area with new opportunities and choices, giving access to growth and development opportunities, made possible by being part of a larger group with national influence. By joining forces we intend to harness the strengths of our two organisations, bringing together four successful colleges in Berkshire and Oxfordshire, working together for the benefit of local learners and businesses. Your courses will continue as normal, the only difference will be the college branding.
5 Choosing a course If you re interested in taking part in a course but are not sure which one to choose, we have qualified, experienced staff who can help you decide. Who can apply? Anyone can apply for a community learning course. The majority are open to everyone although there are entry requirements for certain courses. If you are over 19, fees will be payable except in some circumstances, see the Money matters section for more details. 5
6 Enrolling on a course There are four ways to enrol: Online You can enrol online at for most of our community courses. Please do not enrol online if you are claiming a discount or applying for an Advanced Learner Loan. Phone Call our friendly, Enquiries & Admissions team on , make sure you have your credit or debit card available. In person Come in and enrol, you can pay by cash, cheque, credit or debit card at Church Road, Bracknell and Woodley Hill House, Earley. 6
7 By post Complete a Registration & Enrolment form. This can be found in the Contact Us section of the website. Payment by cheque. Please do not send cash in the post. 22 Money matters Payment is required on enrolment, whether you are entitled to discounts or not. Fees shown are for tuition only, unless otherwise stated. You may need to pay other costs depending on your course, for example: Exams Professional body registration/ membership Books Materials For Jobseekers: You can receive full funding for some courses if you are unemployed or need training to improve 22 your chances of finding employment or progressing in your current employment. The following conditions from the Education and Skills Funding Agency apply: Receiving Job Seeker s Allowance (JSA) including JSA National Insurance Credit only Receiving Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) in the Work Related Activity Group (WRAG) Learners who receive Universal Credit, work less than 16 hours per week on minimum wage and are determined by JobCentre Plus as being in one of the following groups: Work related
23 Requirements, Work Preparation, Work- Focused interview. Learners who receive other state benefits, work less than 16 hours per week on minimum wage and the subject they wish to study would be directly relevant to their future employment prospects. You will be asked to complete an additional form and to provide proof that you are receiving those benefits. Please ask the Enquiries & Admissions team for further information. For other students: You can also receive full funding on some courses if you are: Aged on 31st August 2018 and not enrolled full or part time at another College/Sixth form. An individual who has not reached GCSE level C/4 or above in English and maths and now wish to study towards a Level 2 qualification in either maths or English. (Applies to specific qualifications only) You will need to produce recent evidence of benefit a letter from Jobcentre Plus or Award Notice. Please note JCP40 is not acceptable. 23
24 Community Learning FREE Places A limited number of places on certain courses are available free if the advertised price is less than 40 or at a minimal cost - 10% of the advertised cost. To qualify for this, you will need to produce evidence of one of the following: Being in receipt of Jobseeker Allowance (JSA) Being in receipt of Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) Receiving pension credits You will only be entitled to one place under this offer during and regular attendance will be expected. European Social Fund (ESF) Many part-time courses receive substantial funding from the ESF or Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) to help keep course fees to the minimum. 24
25 Support & guidance The College is here to help all our students succeed and we offer a range of services to ensure students are able to do so. Student Services Our friendly, supportive staff provide a variety of information, advice and guidance to meet your needs whilst at college. Practical support We can advise you on many issues ranging from funding your course to careers. Our Student Services team are available and able to signpost you to outside services and agencies where necessary. Personal support Our Student Services and Study Support teams are friendly and professionally qualified. 25
26 Special educational needs and disability We welcome applications from students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities and will provide where possible support to enable you to succeed on your course. Car parking Car parking is available at the main college sites but cannot be guaranteed. Spaces are allocated on a first come first served basis. Safeguarding We have a statutory and moral responsibility to ensure that we safeguard and promote the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults receiving education and training with us.
