1 2018 UT Dallas Orientation Leader Application Position Description The Orientation Leader program maintains the standards of excellence of and connects new students to the University of Texas at Dallas by providing memorable first-year experiences, a welcoming inclusive environment, social programming, leadership opportunities, and a sense of personal involvement in the campus community. Through insightful leadership and the cultivation of spirit and tradition, the Orientation Leader Program is the catalyst for new student development and success. The Orientation Leader (OL) position at The University of Texas at Dallas is a high-profile student leadership position. About 60 OLs will be selected to serve on the team. An OL is a current student who mentors new students during their transition into the UT Dallas campus environment. They hold high profile leadership positions and help shape new students opinions of not only UT Dallas but also of the entire university experience. New students are more likely to feel connected with the university and their peers because of OLs. OLs are role models, leaders, and information resources. Requirements Assist with all New Student Programs sponsored events: Freshman Orientations, Summer Success Series, Comet Families, and Road Warriors events. A list of mandatory dates for OLs is provided during the selection process. Able to attend Spring Training (see calendar) Able to attend the Orientation Leader Retreat in May (see calendar) Able to work 7 out of 9 orientations, Summer Success Series, and approximately 9 work days (see calendar) Eligible to work in the United States Be a full-time UTD student; must be an enrolled student graduating no earlier than August 2018 Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills Able and willing to relate to people from diverse backgrounds Understand that an OL cannot also be a returning Peer Advisor during the calendar year in which they are an OL. GPA Preference will be given to students with a cumulative 3.0 or better UT Dallas GPA Applicants with less than 3.0 will have the opportunity to address this if offered an individual interview Other duties as assigned Expectations Represent and promote UT Dallas to new students, their families, and the entire campus community Serve as a role model for UTD students, provide peer academic advising, assist students with academic success, personal and social issues, and refer students to appropriate offices and resources on campus as needed Be enthusiastic, positive, and have a team oriented attitude about UT Dallas Do not show preferential treatment of students based on major, program, or other designations As a representative of the university any behavior considered inappropriate or unbecoming may result in dismissal. These incidences usually involve alcohol and minors. Compensation Total compensation in the amount of approximately $1, paid at a rate of $10.00/hour for training, orientations, Summer Success Series, and all workdays preceding these events. Benefits Orientation Leaders will receive training and practice on leadership theory, group motivation, and student development. Orientation Leaders will gain experience in customer service and problem solving while having fun, building friendships, and making a difference in the lives of new students and their families. You will be contacted on Friday, February 2 rd if you have been selected for an Individual Interview.

5 STATEMENT OF ETHICAL STANDARDS I agree to uphold the standards of the Orientation Leader Program. This includes, but is not limited to: Following the UTD Code of Student Conduct which applies to your behavior on and off campus. OLs are not allowed to date or develop a sexual relationship with any incoming freshmen which includes students that attend Freshman Orientation, Comet Camp, or Success Camp; students living in the freshman area; or any student required to take the CLA+ exam as a freshman. Understand and accept differences between cultures, ethnic groups, other students' values, beliefs systems, etc. Enable ALL students to feel comfortable coming to you for assistance. Represent the institution in an honest and positive manner. I affirm that the information that I have provided on this application is truthful and correct.
