3 Introduction Features Admission of Non-local Students All PolyU award programmes offered through PolyU SPEED are hosted by academic units of PolyU. The programme hosts assume overall academic responsibility while PolyU SPEED provides administrative support and teaching venues. Non-local students are defined as persons entering Hong Kong for the purpose of education with a student visa / entry permit issued by the Director of Immigration. Non-local persons having met the minimum entry requirements may apply for admission to the full-time programmes. They must obtain a visa to study in Hong Kong. For details, please contact the Immigration Department of the HKSAR Government (Tel: ; Website: Campus Facilities and Services Students enrolled on PolyU award programmes offered through PolyU SPEED are students of PolyU. They will each be issued a PolyU Student Card and shall enjoy the facilities and services as those available for their counterparts enrolled on self-financing programmes in PolyU. Since these students will attend most of their classes at PolyU Hung Hom Bay Campus or PolyU West Kowloon Campus, they will also be eligible to access the facilities there. The co-curricular activities and counselling services organised / provided by the Student Affairs Office of PolyU are open to these students. To facilitate students travelling between the PolyU Main Campus and the extended campuses, shuttle bus services connecting the campuses are available. Scholarships PolyU SPEED offers scholarships to students with good academic results and all-round achievements. Loan and Financial Assistance The PolyU award programmes offered through SPEED are non-government funded. Local full-time students enrolled on these programmes are eligible to apply for means-tested Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP) or Non-means-tested Loan Scheme for Post-secondary Students (NLSPS) while local part-time students may apply for Extended Non-means-tested Loan Scheme (ENLS) offered by the Government s Student Financial Assistance Agency (SFAA). If you wish to know more about FASP, NLSPS and ENLS, please visit the SFAA website 62 Applicants who apply for admission with non-local qualifications are required to satisfy the English language requirements set by the programme offering unit. Non-local students are not eligible for financial assistance of any kind provided by the HKSAR Government. Apart from tuition fee, there will be other expenses such as those for air tickets, accommodation, local transportation, insurance, clothing, food, entertainment and textbooks.

7 Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English for Business and Professional Communication ( ) Aims and Objectives The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English for Business and Professional Communication (BAEBPC) is designed to serve suitably-qualified individuals who seek to enhance their English language competence for the multilingual and multicultural workplace of the 21st century. It enables learners to: (a) acquire an academic grounding in English language studies; (b) discover ways to explore the dynamic potential of the English language; and (c) formulate practical solutions to communicative problems in business service situations. Career Opportunities Graduates of the programme will ideally find employment in junior management or administrative positions in the private and public sectors, such as sales and marketing, customer service, public relations, information offices, telecommunications, journalism and the media, especially in professional, multilingual workplace settings in which there is a need for English communication. Programme Structure* To qualify for the BA (Hons) award, students are normally required to accumulate 66 credits (out of the total required credits, 24 of which will have to be at level 4 including 6 credits from core and 18 credits from elective subjects) by completing the required subjects below. 9 Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Ageing Studies Aims and Objectives Programme Structure* The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Ageing Studies aims to develop and prepare students to have the competence, attributes and abilities to work with the diverse population of older adults and to meet the emerging needs of the ageing society. In addition to the professional knowledge and competence, students are provided with the opportunities to develop generic attributes including independent and critical thinking, problem-solving skills, communication skills, leadership and teamwork skills, creativity and innovation, and entrepreneurship.
