How can I prepare to transfer to a four year university? Identify your major Build a list of universities where you would like to apply and start researching to evaluate if they are a strong match for you Schedule an appointment with a counselor to develop or update your Student Educational Plan (SEP) based on your major and the college/university of your choice Complete general education and major prep courses Connect to universities and apply!

How many units do I need to transfer? For the UC and CSU systems you need 60 units minimum Units required for private colleges may vary

Maximum amount of units You can be credited with a maximum of 70 units to the CSU/UC from community colleges If you exceed 70 units, all transferable courses and grades will still count but your unit count will remain at 70 For private colleges and universities, the maximum amount of transferable units vary

What courses make up my 60 units? General Education (GE): Approximately 39 units. STEM majors are minimally required to complete English 101 & English 102 or 103, plus at least one college level Math course. Major Preparation: Approximately 21 units. STEM majors are highly encouraged to complete as many if not all major prep courses. Transferrable Electives: your major courses will likely total more than 60 units. Should you have space for electives, they should be courses you will do well in (to preserve GPA).

How do I find out what my major preparation transfer requirements are? Meet with a counselor & explore For private colleges, meet with a counselor and explore each college website
