2 Learning Targets: 1. Students will identify post-high school options 2. Students will know how to identify upcoming dates and tasks related to post-secondary plans 3. Students will know how to research financial aid and scholarship opportunities 4. Students will know how to sign up for College Representative Visits 5. Students will understand how to plan for letters of recommendation 6. Students will know how to access their Naviance account

3 Target 1: Post-secondary goals and Research: What do you want to do after high school?

4 Post Secondary Options 4 year College/University COD: College of DuPage Employment/Entrepreneurship Military Specialized Training (Apprenticeship) Technical/Vocational Skills

5 4 Year College or University Research schools and meet with college representatives who are coming to DGS Schedule campus visits during the summer Attend college fairs **Make sure to plan ahead** Register for ACT/SAT Communicate with your parents Fall of senior year is the time to focus on applications.

17 SAT TESTING April 10: All juniors are registered to take test at DGS Register for other Saturday dates at Registration deadline is April 6th for May 5th test Other test dates and deadlines How to register online

18 ACT TESTING DGS is no longer offering a school-wide ACT test. Registration deadline is March 9th for the April 14th ACT if you choose to take it. Visit for registration information

19 ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY NCAA Division I and/or Division II potential student athletes are recommended to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center during Sophomore Year Register ASAP if you are planning to enroll NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) Need to register with NAIA Eligibility Center Guide for the College-Bound Student Athlete

20 Target 3: Researching Financial Aid and Scholarships

21 COST OF ATTENDANCE (COA) Important factor when choosing a college! COA includes: Tuition, room and board, books, transportation etc. Look on each college s website to view their estimated COA Net Price Calculator - Each College/University offers one

22 How is need based aid calculated? Cost of Attendance Expected Family Contribution

23 FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA) Go to for a free estimate of what your Expected Family Contribution will be, and how much Federal Aid you might receive. Students can complete their FAFSA starting October 1st Talk with your parents about completing this application DGS will have FAFSA resources available in the Fall

24 SCHOLARSHIPS listed in NAVIANCE 1. Click on the College tab 2. Click on the Scholarship List link 3. Although most scholarships are for current seniors, some might take applications from juniors. 4. Keep checking Naviance for updated scholarship list. 5. Nearly ALL local scholarships are sent to DGS in the winter and early spring.

26 Click on Colleges tab College Visits are listed in Naviance Click on view visits This SPRING is a great time to meet with college reps!

27 Click sign up if you plan to attend Make a note of the visit in your planner because you will not receive a pass that day The only way to sign up for a rep visit is through Naviance.

28 Target 5: Letters of Recommendation

29 Counselor or Teacher Recommendation Letter For colleges/universities you apply to, determine which colleges require letters of recommendation. Not all colleges/universities require letters of recommendation, research each application carefully. If you need a teacher letter of recommendation, contact your preferred teachers during 1st semester of Senior year. If you need a counselor letter of recommendation, you will receive more detailed directions during Senior Focus next year.

30 Target 6: Logging into Naviance 1. Go to South s home page 2. Click on Students 3. Click on Naviance 4. Enter student address (jsmi1234@csd99.org) as username. 5. Enter student ID# as password
