U a ASSEMBLIES OF GOD BIBLE COLLEGE, P.O. BOX 70, DODOMA, TANZANIA AGBC.DODOMA@GMAIL.COM AGBC-D o d o m n d e r g r a d u a t e P r o s p e c t u s» Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Theology» Bachelor of Arts in Missions» Bachelor of Arts in Religious Education The mission of AGBC-Dodoma is developing servant leaders empowered by the Holy Spirit to reach the nations. AGBC-Dodoma is a ministry of the Education Department of the Tanzania Assemblies of God. The TAG subsidizes every student to a greater or lesser extent. Those licensed or ordained as ministers within the TAG enjoy the largest subsidy through a tuition discount funded by the TAG Education Department. In light of this mission and subsidy, the TAG reserves the right to have a selective admissions policy. Students whose lives and plans for future ministry are in keeping with the mission of AGBC, and whose academic records show they are adequately prepared to study at the BA level, are invited to apply. If AGBC is restrictive, why do so many apply? Because we offer a very high quality education at a very low cost, and students leave with a BA that is internationally recognized and accredited. The BA degree from AGBC-Dodoma is offered in cooperation with Global University, a US-based university that specializes in distance education for Ministers, Missionaries, and Christian Workers around the world. Through a transfer-of-credit agreement with Global University, AGBC students take about two thirds of their coursework locally in Dodoma, Tanzania, and one third directly with Global University by correspondence (with local help and supervision). Through this arrangement, AGBC graduates earn a BA from Global University that is internationally recognized and accredited.
y y y y y y z "!#%$&('")'* + The coursework in Bible and Theology is designed for ministers, ministerial students, and laypersons who seriously desire a biblical education. Admission to the degree program in Bible and Theology requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Advanced academic placement through transfer of credit is possible for those with previous undergraduate training. *"!,-.# /012$3'"!5460/,,30/7-,98&)'5: '"8&1+9-!#;'"<1(0$>=?@: Global University s curriculum gives its students the learning experiences that lead not only to depth of knowledge and skill in the major area of study but also to a complementary breadth of learning. Consequently, the institution designs every degree program to require the student to complete three components: (1) a comprehensive Bible and theology core, (2) a selected major, and (3) a broad general education core. The Bible and theology core provides a basic biblical education for all students. The selected major allows students to prepare themselves according to their individual interests, abilities, and sense of calling. The general education core helps students understand the contemporary world and how to relate to it. The Institution s curricular philosophy has historically maintained a commitment to the ideal that its students will receive a wide-ranging education. Such breadth is best achieved through a comprehensive general education component required in each degree program. The content of the general education component is expressed in the following set of objectives: A5B(C B(D(E5F B(G HIEKJMLON5C PRQSLB(FSGUTVN5QWT(JHGX YZU[?\^]_^à_6bb\7àc?\^dRde]_ef^gh\aijglk^`kam)ion6_qpr\^]sglk^tb\^]_e\6bk6m@uR_^à_7]v\7wa_Rc^tafR\aijglk^`Rx Language and Communication (including biblical literature) Fine Arts Humanities (including history, culture, and philosophy) Natural Sciences and Technology Mathematics Social and Behavioral Science { 6}e~7 ƒ^ 6}^ > 6 % aˆ j a~ Še eœe~r}^ Rv~6 RŽŠRvƒRŒa j lœe~6 RŽ W~6 o 6 e}r ^ l R a.ƒ7 a}.ŝ R a}eƒ7 W~^ ƒ7 ƒa R e "Š o h ^ r aˆ }^ rœ^ >ŠR > > a~6 Skills and Competencies Computer literacy and information processing Analysis and communication of information
Written and oral communication skills. Production as well as acquisition of knowledge Theory and practice of leadership Pervasive Objectives Understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures Continued practice of lifelong learning Critical thinking: interpretive, analytic, and evaluative competencies Recognition of personal giftedness and the exercise of creativity Integrative Studies Development and internalization of a biblical value system Integration of faith and learning Integration of Christian principles with the academic disciplines and in life. Articulation of a biblical worldview Global University offers a total of 36 courses (109 credit hours) in the various areas of General Education. This selection of courses exposes the student to the disciplines deemed necessary to professional and social interaction. Thus, a practical need drives the general education requirement. This general education component demonstrates breadth and coherence through variety and promotes critical thinking and creativity through its system of formative and summative evaluation, course projects, and collateral reading assignments. The institution recognizes the importance of the general education content areas to the development of historical perspective, communication, critical thinking, and quantitative reasoning skills that are necessary to life in a global society.!#"%$ The Global University evaluation system is based on the ideals of mastery learning, objective-based course content, formative and summative evaluation, and criterionreferenced testing. Each course presents the student with broad goals and specific objectives. An instructional design guides the learning process. Formative evaluation takes place throughout the course, and a summative evaluation is its capstone. Thus the student is given the opportunity to demonstrate that he or she obtained the requisite learning and skills. This is accomplished through valid and reliable evaluation, the completion of projects, the reading of collateral literature, and various forms of written responses requiring the demonstration of analytical ability, critical thinking, evaluation skills, and clarity of communication in written form. Thus in addition to specific course outcomes, the objectives of creativity and critical thinking pervade curricular patterns. This integrated approach overarches the curriculum. Courses are taught by resident faculty with support and help from a large number of qualified non-resident (Adjunct) faculty from Tanzania, the United States, and elsewhere. Although several of the resident faculty are listed with administrative titles, all of them regularly teach courses at the BA level.
Rev. Ezekiel Mbwilo, M.Div., Principal of AGBC. Rev. Bob Braswell, Ph.D., Academic Dean, Degree. Rev. Jackson Nyanda, Ph.D. Candidate and Assistant Director of the TAG Education Department. Rev. Geoffrey P. Majule, M.Div. Academic Dean, Diploma. Rev. Pastory Majembe, M.Div. Rev. Jeff Garrett, M.A. Rev. Jackie Braswell, M.A. Because of the large number of Adjunct Faculty members that could be listed, only the two who teach most often are included below. Rev. Barnabas Mtokambali, D.Min. Assistant General Superintendent of the Tanzania Assemblies of God. Adjunct from Morogoro, Tanzania. Rev. J. I. Mwakimage, Ph.D. Candidate and Director of the TAG Education Department. Adjunct from Tanga, Tanzania. Note: It is our standard practice that BA-level courses are taught by instructors holding an MA or higher degree. Since AGBC offers a 1-year Certificate in English and a 3-year Advanced Diploma in Pastoral Ministries in addition to the BA-level programs detailed in this prospectus, some resident faculty are involved primarily in the English and Advanced Diploma programs, or in administration, as listed below. Rev. I. Challo, B.A., Dean of Students and Acting Registrar. Rev. S. Mwaluvanda, B.A. Rev. S. Ndulesi, B.A.* Rev. G. Mwansele, Business Manager. *Note: Rev. Ndulesi s BA was being completed at the time of this writing. The typical BA program at AGBC is the Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Theology. Two other majors are possible: the Bachelor of Arts in Missions or the Bachelor of Arts in Religious Education. These options are built on the strong base of general education and Bible knowledge that the Bible and Theology major require, substituting courses in the practical ministries area to emphasize the chosen major. Students who have a strong or specific calling to missions or religious education should visit with the Academic Dean early in their program of study. The ordinary course
offerings are designed to facilitate the Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Theology, and it is sometimes necessary for students in other majors to take independent study courses to complete the alternate programs. AGBC is on a trimester system. The BA degree consists of 128 credits, which usually requires 12 trimesters (4 years of study) to complete. Students who enter AGBC degree studies having already achieved a Diploma from a TAG Bible School can usually receive transfer credit for Bible courses equivalent to one term at the BA level. (NOTE: this is one trimester, not a full year.) Students who enter AGBC degree studies having already achieved an Advanced Diploma from AGBC can usually receive credit toward the BA equivalent to three terms (NOTE: this is one year, not three years.). Students who enter AGBC degree studies having already achieved an accredited BA from another university can usually complete a second BA in Bible and Theology in four terms (a little more than one year of study). Because they must repeat courses until they achieve a C or better in order to graduate, most students take a full 4 years to complete the degree, even if they had a diploma when they entered. Students would be wise to plan accordingly, and to communicate the same to their sponsors, so they will not be forced to leave before the degree is complete.!"# $ % & ' ( ($) % Entry to the BA level requires successful completion of secondary level studies through Form 4 or equivalent. Students with questions about their qualifications should contact the Registrar. *+, -,./ 0% The costs of attending AGBC are adjusted from time to time as necessitated by the cost of food for students, the cost of books, exchange rates, etc., fluctuate. The current costs are attached to this Prospectus as Appendix A. The requirements for each degree offered are listed in the following tables. These are subject to some minor changes from year to year, and AGBC makes some alterations from time to time to make our program more African and less American. Even so, the Global University guidelines as they exist in 2006 are as follows.
