1 An Introduction to BANNER XE Attendance Tracking New River Community and Technical College Created by Dara Fann Phone: Please direct any questions regarding Attendance Tracking to the Registrar s Office. How do faculty login to Attendance Tracking to track student attendance? Login to the College portal and find the Faculty Services link on the left-side navigation bar. Click it to open and then find the link for Attendance Tracking. Single sign-on is supposed to allow you to access Attendance Tracking directly from the portal without additional authentication. But you can also go to the direct link to Attendance Tracking and then authenticate when prompted. Here is the direct link: Username: 9-digit BANNER ID Number (e.g., ) Password: Self-Service PIN (typically your date of birth (e.g., ) NOTE: Attendance Tracking utilizes the same credentials as Self-Service Banner. 2 What method do we use to track attendance? Attendance will be tracked for all courses based on part-of-term and the absent/present system. This covers all courses falling within the term dates and courses that may begin before the term starts or end after the term stops. How do I track attendance? Rules are configured by the Registrar s office for each course. After logging into attendance tracking, you will see the courses listed as detailed in the screenshot below. If you do NOT see your courses, then you are either not assigned as an instructor for the course in BANNER or attendance tracking is not yet enabled for that term. 3 In order to track attendance, click on the Take Roll button for the course you want to work with. The course roster will appear detailing all students enrolled for the course. (***Dara Fann is the only student enrolled in this course***) New River Community and Technical College Page 3 of 9

4 In order to work with particular dates, you can modify the date entered at the top of the roster to navigate to past course dates. You may also click on the Class Drop Down Menu to mark the class as cancelled, Update the last date of attendance for the CRN in BANNER, or update the total hours for the CRN in BANNER. 5 In order to track attendance for the student, simply click the empty white circle under the date column. A green circle with a check means present and a grey circle with a dash means absent. New River Community and Technical College Page 5 of 9

7 For faster updating, there is a drop down box located to the bottom right of the roster which permits the following; update empty records to present, update empty records to absent, mark all present, or mark all absent. New River Community and Technical College Page 7 of 9

8 What does the student see in Student Attendance Tracking? Students may access attendance tracking to review their attendance information for each course by logging into the portal, then looking under Student Services to locate the link to Student Attendance. They may also navigate directly to the Attendance Tracking module by using the following link: Username: 9-digit BANNER ID Number (e.g., ) Password: Self-Service PIN (typically your date of birth (e.g., ) NOTE: Student Attendance Tracking utilizes the same credentials as Self-Service Banner.
