1 DON BOSCO COLLEGE, GOLAGHAT (a Degree college affiliated to Dibrugarh University) Dhodar Ali, Ward No 2, Golaghat The institutions run by the Salesians of Don Bosco are well known in 132 countries around the globe. In North-east, from the Assam Don Bosco University to a primary school in a remote village, all can take pride in imparting quality education. In 2015, the Don Bosco society opened two more degree colleges: one at Kohima, Nagaland and the other at Golaghat, Assam. Don Bosco College, Golaghat, is established and administered by the Salesians of Don Bosco, Dimapur Province. It offers Degree courses in Arts and Commerce. The college follows the System of Education, developed by St. John Bosco, which is widely known as the Preventive System of Education is based on Reason, Love of God and Loving-kindness. It places before the staff, students and parents the high ideals of humanism and service towards which they are continually invited to strive. Don Bosco prepares students to live life in abundance and at the same time be of service to humanity, by everyone leaving a mark in the society where they live. The College is affiliated to Dibrugarh University vide order No. DU/RG/DCDC/DBC/Perm./ /8741 dated ACADEMIC INFORMATION OF THE COLLEGE STRUCTURE OF COURSES: Bachelor of Arts: The Bachelor of Arts Program has the following courses under the semester system (i) Compulsory Courses: These courses are the compulsory courses for all students of the programme concerned. The students have to opt the following two courses under the compulsory courses namely: (a) English (b) Alt. English or Assamese. (ii) (ii) Major Courses: Don Bosco College offers the following courses as Major: (a) English (b) Education (c) Political Science (d) Sociology. A student has to choose one of these courses as Major course. (iii) Non-Major Courses: A student who pursues a Major course at Don Bosco College, need to opt for a Non-Major course from among the following: a) Economics (b) Education, (c) History (d) Political Science and (e) Sociology. However, a student cannot opt for the same subject in both Major and Non-Major. Bachelor of Commerce: A student who opts for the commerce program can join in either of the two specializations offered by the College, under Dibrugarh University: They are: a) Accounting and Finance b) Human Resource Management ADMISSION Application Forms for admission into the Degree Classes are issued immediately after the announcement of the result of AHSEC examination along with Prospectus of the College. The same can be downloaded from the college website: The candidate seeking admission may apply in the prescribed form or submit the online application form in a prescribed format.

2 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION FOR BACHELOR OF ARTS: Students who have passed 1O+2 Examination in Arts, Science and Commerce Streams conducted by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council or equivalent examination recognized by the Dibrugarh University will be eligible for admission into First Semester of Six Semesters Course in Arts. FOR BACHELOR OF COMMERCE: Students who have passed 10+2 examination in Commerce stream, conducted by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council or equivalent examination recognized by Dibrugarh University will be eligible for admission into First Semester of Six Semesters Course in Commerce. Provided a student, who has passed the Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) in Science/ Arts with mathematics/ statistics as one of the subjects of the Assam 3 Higher Secondary Education Council, or an equivalent examination recognized as such by the University shall also be eligible for admission into the B.Com Programme. ATTENDANCE: (i) A student who has less than 80% attendance shall not be permitted to sit for the Endsemester examination in the course in which the shortfall exists. Provided that it shall be open to the University to grant exemption to a student who has attended a minimum of 70% classes but failed to obtain the prescribed 80% attendance for valid reasons on recommendation of the Head/Director/ Coordinator of the Department/ Centre on payment of a prescribed fee(s). (ii) The Principal of the college/ institute with recommendation of the Heads of the Departments shall announce the names of all students who shall not be eligible to appear in the End-semester examinations in the various courses due to non-fulfillment of the criteria of internal assessment and attendance, and send a copy of the same to the University. In such cases, the student shall have to re-enroll in the relevant course(s) with the next batch. EXAMINATION AND EVALUATION: (a) Examination and evaluation shall be done on a continuous basis. (b) There shall be 20% marks for internal assessment and 80% marks for End semester examination in each course during every semester. (c) There shall be no provision for re-evaluation of the answer-scripts of the end semester examinations. However, a candidate may apply for re-scrutiny. (d) Internal Assessment: (i) In internal assessment, different tools may be employed such as written tests, assignments, paper presentation, laboratory work, etc. suitable to the courses. (ii) The students shall be informed in advance about the nature of assessment. Students shall compulsorily attend in the process of internal assessment, failing which they will not be allowed to appear in the End-semester examination. A Student cannot repeat In-semester examinations. (e) End Semester Examination: (i) There shall be one End semester examination carrying 80% Marks in each course of a Semester covering the entire syllabus prescribed for the course. The End semester examination is normally a written/ laboratory-based examination/project Work/Dissertation.

3 (ii) The Controller of Examinations shall then make necessary arrangements for notifying the dates of the end semester examinations and other procedures as per Dibrugarh University Rules (at least 20 days in advance) and the Academic Calendar notified by the University. (iii) Normally, the end semester examination for each course shall be of three hour duration. Documents needed for Admissions: - Xeroxed copy of ADMIT CARD AND MARK SHEET of Matric and Examinations - Xeroxed copy of Age Certificate - Xeroxed copy of ST/SC/OBC/MOBC/CAST Certificate. - Xeroxed Copy of Gap Certificate by those passing Examination in Previous Year (s). - Four (4) copies of recent pass port size photograph. Student Identity card A non transferable identity card, containing relevant information of the holder with recent photograph duly attested by the Principal, is issued to each student. The student has to wear his/her identity card attached to a fastener inside the college campus. Uniform Sky Blue Shirt, Black Trousers, Black Belt, Black Neck Tie, Black Shoes and Black Socks. (Applicable for both boys and girls) FEES: Yearly Fee: Rs. 7000/- (Rupees Seven Thousand only for the academic year ) Yearly fee includes Admission, Establishment, Maintenance, Development, Electricity, Water Supply, Library, Identity Card, University Registration, Games & Sports, Departmental activity. Tuition Fee: Rs. 650/- (Rupees Six Hundred and Fifty only) per month for 12 Months, to be paid by the 5 th of each Month, without fine. (650 X 12 = Rs. 7800/- (Seven Thousand and Eight Hundred only) University Examination Fee: The University Examination Fee will be announced by the University before the End Semester Examination. This will have to be paid separately as per university notification and will be made known prior to each End Semester Examination. 5 FACILITIES AVAILABLE AT THE COLLEGE CAMPUS: a) HOSTEL FACILITIES FOR BOYS AND GIRLS: The College has two hostels: Don Bosco College Boys Hostel and Fusco Girls Hostel. For further details kindly contact the warden of the respective hostels: Don Bosco College Boys Hostel: ; Fusco Girls Hostel: b) INTERNAL QUALITY ASSESSMENT CELL: The College has an Internal Quality Assessment Cell (IQAC) with Dr. Konsam Jenny as the IQAC Coordinator. The Cell meets regularly to ensure that the college provides quality education. c) NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS): The College has a very vibrant National Service Scheme Unit with Ms. Sushmita Bora Rongpipi as the Program Officer. d) NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC SW): The College has a very active NCC unit with an intake capacity of 25 Girls from the first Semester, under 74 Assam Girls (I) Coy NCC. Ms. Himadri Dutta is the CTO of the NCC SW Unit. Mr. Micheal Xaxa, Department of Economics, helps in coordinating the activities of NCC. A similar unit for the Men will also be started subject to availability of vacancy. e) JESUS YOUTH MOVEMENT: The College offers opportunity to be members of Jesus Youth Movement, a well known National Youth Movement. This will provide great opportunity for the members to develop their personality through various activities, exposure programs and neighbourhood interventions. A full time volunteer will animate the group. f) SWAYAM Courses: The College is encouraging the students to opt for various courses under SWAYAM to promote additional learning experience. The College has appointed Mr. Anjan Bharali, Department of Commerce, as the Nodal Officer of SWAYAM. g) SWACCH BHARAT ABHIYAN: Mr. Harmeet Singh, HOD, Department of Commerce is the Coordinator and Ms. Sushmita Bora Rongpipi is the Nodal officer for the Swacch Bharat Summer Internship Programme. Mr. Mukul Sarmah, Department of Economics helps in coordinating the internship program. Under this scheme many of the students have opted for the Internship program. h) CLUBS: The College offers a variety of clubs to provide additional space for learning and developing interactive skills. Some of them are: Career Club, Eco Club, sports Club, Culture Club, Gender Club, Literary Club, Health and Sanitation club. i) CAREER TRAINING PROGRAM: The College conducts 40 Hours training program in Career under the Quest Alliance. The successfully trained students will get certificate from the Quest Alliance. The college has 3 full time Career Trainers trained by the Quest Alliance, Mr. Harmeet Singh, HOD, Department of Commerce, Ms. Sushmita Bora Rongpipi, Department of History and Sr. Reena P. George, Department of English. It is mandatory that every student undergo this training program. This program is offered to the first and second semester students of the college.

6 j) SOFT SKILLS: Soft skills are provided for the first four semesters so that they develop correct aptitude and get sufficient skills that will help them become employable. Fr. Mathew C Paul, an experienced soft skill trainer will take these sessions. k) VALUE EDUCATION: The College provides value education for the first two semesters so that they imbibe correct values and develop skills and aptitudes that will help them cope with the life situations and help them become employable. The Jesus Youth Full Timer will take these sessions. l) CAREER MENTORING AND JOB PLACEMENT: Through the office of the Vice Principal and PRO of the College, Rev. Fr. Bimal Lakra SDB, mentors the students regarding various career options so that the graduating students will have a smooth transition from degree level to job related life or higher studies. This year, through 17 college students were placed in jobs at Kitex Garments Limited, Cochi, while two students were given sports quota free education at Dharmagiri College and other students were guided to opt for various courses of study. All the forty outgoing students were helped to move ahead with definitive plan for their future. m) COMPUTER LAB AND INTERNET FACILITY: The College provides free access to computer lab and departmental computers in the library with free internet facilities for browsing and searching for digital materials. The college has over 40 computers available to the students. n) LIBRARY: The College has about 3000 books besides journals, magazines and news papers. More books are being purchased each year. Digitalisation of the library is also in process. o) CAMPUS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM: The College is developing its own Campus Management System that makes the teaching learning process digital. Students will be able to log in to the Campus Management System and get related information online. They can view their profile, library catalogue, submit application forms, pay college fees etc p) LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM: Through Learning Management System integrated into the Campus Management System, the students will be able to access all digital documents, power point presentations, videos uploaded by the staff and access the subscribed journals on line. College LMS can be accessed from any computer/mobile connected to internet. q) DIGITAL PAYMENT: The College has tied up with the PayUMoney group and this helps all the students to pay the various fees by clicking on the relevant link in the college website.
