Majors included in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences are listed below tables. Number to call at KU for advising: (785) Website: Some majors have admission requirements or impose specific GPA s for admission. Consult the KU catalog. Sixty-four credit hours may be transferred to KU from community colleges. Students should be aware that 100 hours in liberal arts and sciences and 45 junior/senior hours are required for completion of the four-year degree; the last 30 of those hours must be taken at KU. Students are required to finish their English and Mathematics requirements within the first year at KU. IMPORTANT NOTE: Beginning Fall 2013 transfer students will be admitted to KU s new Core Curriculum automatically. There will be a short period where transfer students can opt-out and participate in the traditional, Non-KU Core Curriculum instead. Only students who are admitted for and begin classes in the Summer 2015 term or prior are eligible to opt-out of the KU Core. Students must speak with an academic advisor to discuss options and determine whether opting out of the Core is an appropriate decision. Additionally, this course must also be approved for either Goal 1 Learning outcome 2 of the KU Core. 5 2. Laboratory or Field Experience (Variable Credits): This course must be an academic-credit bearing laboratory or field experience. This course may be taken in conjunction with a lecture course but the course combination must contain a laboratory. 3. Writing (6 Credits): Students must complete six credit hours (two courses) of collegiate writing-level instructions. Students must complete ENGL 101: Composition and ENGL 102/105: Critical Reading and Writing/Freshman Honors English. Students who place into ENGL 102/105 by examination must complete ENGL 102/105 and another course meeting Goal 2, Learning of the KU Core. Satisfied by the following KU courses: ENGL 101 AND ENGL 102/105, OR ENGL 102/105 AND a course that satisfies Goal 2, Learning of the KU Core. 4. Non-English Language Proficiency (Variable Credits): Students must demonstrate fourth semester proficiency in a single non-english language, OR third semester proficiency in a first non-english language and first semester proficiency in a second non-english language.
