2 ABOUT WASHINGTON STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE Washington State Community College (WSCC) is a two-year community college nestled on 180 acres of rolling, wooded hills in Marietta, Ohio. Since 1971, WSCC has grown from four graduates in its first year to more than 10,000 alumni. With more than 1,700 students, the College offers a variety of educational opportunities, including both associate degrees and certificates, to students and members of the surrounding communities. 3 ABOUT THE POSITION Washington State Community College invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President of Academic Affairs beginning July As the chief academic officer of the College, the Vice President of Academic Affairs is a dynamic, creative, and engaged leader who guides the leadership team in all areas relating to academic affairs. The VPAA is a strategic thinker who reports directly to the President of the College and works collaboratively to set the academic vision; applies innovation in curriculum design; provides adaptable leadership and direction for all aspects of Washington State Community College s academic programs; and supervises related academic activities. Qualified candidates must hold a Master s degree from an accredited institution. An earned doctorate or other appropriate terminal degree is preferred. Candidates must also possess senior level administrative experience, preferably at a community college. Faculty experience, including distance learning, is desirable. The ideal candidate will also have experience with both regional and specialized accreditation and documented professional accomplishments in an institution of higher education. Prospective candidates: should be proficient with data, and data analytics; and should have experience creating collaborative partnerships with business, industry, and education partners. The candidate must demonstrate a student-centered commitment with the ability to attain the highest academic standards and accreditation, deliver quality educational programs and services, and achieve excellence in student success.

4 ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership Lead academic planning that is aligned with the College s strategic goals Develop new, innovative education programs in an era of rapidly changing higher education dynamics while establishing a high-performance entrepreneurial culture and a vision of academic excellence Inspire faculty and staff to be strategic thinkers focused on innovation to increase student success Lead with a commitment to teamwork, team building, and shared governance Develop and execute strategies to achieve strategic goals and address the operational needs to advance the College Lead academic program review, development, delivery, and assessment of instruction to assure educational programs are producing quality graduates Curriculum and Instruction Maintain academic programs responsive to needs of the learners and the workforce needs of the region and state Oversee accreditation requirements and maintain compliance with policies and academic accountability for the Higher Learning Commission, Ohio Department of Higher Education, and program accrediting agencies Collaborate with community partners to assure programs are reviewed and approved by appropriate internal and external stakeholders Use data to monitor program success and viability with respect to enrollment, retention, graduation rates, and student success Advance distance education, the use of technology, and the development of innovative delivery models including accelerated, online, hybrid, and apprenticeship

5 ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of instructional and support programs to increase student success Use data to drive continuous improvement processes by encouraging change and adopting best practices to advance academic excellence Maintain the Academic Program Review process and the College s general education curriculum and its assessment Develop articulation and transfer agreements with education partners and maintain compliance with Ohio s Transfer Module (TM), Transfer Assurance Guides (TAGs), Career and Technical Assurance Guides (CTAGS) Lead academic planning and the development of the master course schedule to assure efficiency and expand student options External and Internal Relations Serve as a resource for the education, technological, and economic advancement of the region Maintain current knowledge of higher education policy and trends, college curricula, and accreditation procedures Advocate for the College at regional, state, and national meetings and assist in advancing the College s stewardship role Collaborate with business, industry, health care, government, non-profit, higher education, and K-12 to advance higher education Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and public education partners to manage an effective and innovative system for delivery and assessment of College Credit Plus Create an inclusive environment of faculty, staff, and students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds Provide leadership for the College s continuous improvement and strategic planning processes Work collaboratively and collegially with departments across the College Promote professional development and coordinate in-service training programs to advance instruction and delivery of services to students Administration Interpret and implement college policies, accreditation standards, and organizational directives Make decisions, cope with stressful circumstances, mediate disputes, and solve problems Coordinate planning, fiscal management, resource generation and allocation Write, secure, and administer grants to advance the mission of the College

6 QUALIFICATIONS CHARACTERISTICS Doctoral degree from an accredited institution preferred; Master s degree required Senior level administrative experience required; experience at a community college preferred Faculty experience, including distance learning, desirable Experience with regional (Higher Learning Commission preferred) and specialized accreditation Documented professional accomplishments in an institution of higher education Experience creating collaborative partnerships with business, industry, and education partners to meet the community s employment needs Proficient with data, technology, and knowledge of data analytics Broad knowledge of the philosophy and mission of community colleges Dynamic leader who possesses an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for innovation who can inspire faculty to attain the highest academic standards and accreditation, deliver quality educational programs and services, and achieve excellence in student success Strategic thinker with the ability to engage faculty in advancing the mission, vision, and priorities of the College and the state of Ohio Adaptive and comfortable in leading change to drive productivity, accountability, and results Ability and commitment to apply creativity and innovation in curriculum design to deliver high quality education that is accessible to the diverse students WSCC seeks to attract Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a disposition to lead with humility and professionalism Student-centered commitment with the ability to advance recruitment, retention, and persistence Possess financial and organizational acumen and a long-term vision for academic excellence Appreciation for serving students from rural and Appalachian communities

7 ABOUT THE COMMUNITY Marietta is the first permanent settlement in the Northwest Territory and has been cited as one of the best adventure towns in the country by National Geographic. Marietta s small town charm and natural beauty provide the perfect backdrop for mountain biking and hiking adventures, or exploring the art galleries and museums of downtown Marietta.
