16 Human Resource Development Goals The college of Asia Pacific Studies aims to cultivate human resources that, upon comprehensive understanding of the diverse political conditions, economies, societies, and cultures of the Asia Pacific region, will; 1. achieve basic and advanced knowledge in such areas as global society, environment and development, and tourism; 2. develop language, communication and problem-solving abilities; and 3. through understanding of the diverse problems facing the Asia Pacific, will be able to contribute to sustainable development and coexistence in the region.

18 Areas of Study The College of Asia Pacific Studies has established four Areas of Study in order to conduct education and research for the development of wide-ranging problem solving ability and specialized know-how of the issues facing the Asia Pacific region. Studies are centered on solid language proficiency and a basic understanding of the diverse cultures, histories, societies, natural environments, and historical conditions of the Asia Pacific region. As one of graduation requirements, students must choose one Area of Study from the following Areas of Study and then complete at least 2 credits from the required subjects (Common Liberal Arts Subjects) for the Area of Study of your choice and 28 credits from the Major Education Subjects for the Area of Study. 19 Required Subjects for Area of Study (Common Liberal Arts Subjects) At APS, subjects required for each Area of Study are stipulated. Students will tackle questions such as what a designated academic field is and become acquainted with a wide-angle view of the problems and the objectives of these fields. These subjects serve as the first step to a broader and a deeper learning in the academic fields by providing students with the basic knowledge and theories they need to understand the field. 95 Course registration is the most important part of implementing your education plan. It is absolutely essential in attending class, receiving credit and graduating from APU. In order to ensure smooth progress through your education plan, please take utmost care when carrying out registration. For course registration and academic advising-related issues, please visit the Academic Office for support. 96 Class Absences In the event that you cannot attend classes due to unavoidable reasons, please inform your instructors. Each instructor will determine how to handle your absence in these cases. 99 Tips on Credit Transfer for Studies Conducted at Other Universities A maximum total of 60 credits of all types of credits may be transferred to APU. However, a maximum of 20 credits may be transferred to student s own College Major Education Subjects. More than 20 credits can be approved when transferring credits to APM from universities with AACSB accreditation.
