Great things happen. AN OVERVIEW OF WCTC

Education inspires future success.

Commitment to students is the focus of WCTC Applied learning and sophisticated, state-of-the-art technology. Individualized attention and dedicated instructors with real-world experience. Credit for prior learning and transfer opportunities. Employer connections and community partnerships. Waukesha County Technical College is steadfast in its commitment to educating students of all ages and backgrounds to be productive members of business and industry, helping support and drive the local economy. WCTC is devoted to bringing people and jobs together, while keeping pace with the evolving trends of the workforce. With over 180 areas of study, students are developing competencies needed for success in the job market. All programs provide students with a comprehensive, quality education arming them with skills needed for their job or the next level of education. An education at WCTC is one that is practical, personalized and rewarding, since student learning is at the core of all we do. Great things happen at WCTC. Two-thirds of the fastest-growing careers will require a technical education.

Great teachers transform learners. A relevant education provides students with a comprehensive college experience. One key factor to that experience is the knowledgeable, expert instructors who bring valuable real-world examples and enthusiasm to the table. Attributes of a WCTC education: State-of-the-art technology Small class sizes Employer insights Interactive learning Student advantages: In-depth learning experiences use the latest cutting-edge equipment and technology. Natural collaboration and individualized learning leads to academic success. Curriculum is shaped by the needs of business and industry. Theory combines with practice to emphasize hands-on learning objectives. The median annual salary for WCTC graduates who receive an Associate of Applied Science degree: $41,360.

Preparation impacts personal growth. The value that I will bring to my future employer will be proper education and knowing how to do the job I ve been trained to do effectively... From a personal standpoint, the college process has really had me experience tremendous personal growth. I m not the person I was two years ago when I got here; I m probably not the same person I was at the beginning of the semester. Richard Faith WCTC Student Ambassador Surgical Technology program student

Delivery methods match students needs. Traditional Programs offered in this manner feature face-to-face classroom instruction during the day, at night or on weekends. Online learning options are also available. The majority of students who attend WCTC immediately after high school complete their education through this traditional format. Blended Options A form of accelerated learning, Blended Options features technology-supported courses in a combined online and in-person format. Program courses are organized into short, manageable segments that meet once per week to accommodate students work and family schedules. This format to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree uses an efficient process for a streamlined, dynamic learning experience. Pathway Programs are structured to be taken one certificate at a time and build toward longer-term credentials such as a technical diploma or associate degree. Students can find employment at different points along the pathway. Apprenticeship Apprentices learn a trade by practical experience through their employer. While WCTC provides related instruction, the student does not apply to the College; the State of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development oversees the apprenticeship system. More than 240 local employers serve as internship, practicum and clinical sites.

Learning fits individual schedules.

Prior learning and transferability maximize credits. Incoming students can earn significant credit through their school, work and life experiences. There are numerous ways in which WCTC accepts credit for prior learning. Additionally, if WCTC graduates are interested in continuing their education, many agreements are in place to allow them to seamlessly transfer credits to four-year colleges and universities. Ways to earn credit: Dual credit courses and dual enrollment programs Youth Apprenticeships Placement exams Work-based and experiential learning credits How it works: High school students earn high school and college credit, upon successful completion of the course through Youth Options, Course Options, Dual Enrollment Academy, transcripted credit, and advanced standing. Youth Apprenticeships combine academic and technical classroom instruction with paid work experience and mentored, on-the-job learning. Credit can be earned through achieving a satisfactory score on an exam with nationally recognized standards. Examples include AP and CLEP exams. Proficiency (WCTC credit by exam) is also available. Adult/returning students may earn credit for work, military service, specialized training or other life experiences. Nearly one-quarter of WCTC graduates continue their education at four-year colleges and universities.
