3 Grade Point Average (GPA) High School GPA is calculated by the postsecondary institution not the high school (Fulton County does not calculate) Contact college to find how they calculate Most use this scale: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, F = 0.0 Most only consider academic courses (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, World Language) To calculate, take your academic classes and assign a 4.0, 3.0, 2.0, or 0.0 for each course. Add them together and divide by the total number of academic courses (estimated GPA) Some colleges may give additional points for Honors, AP, and College courses Some colleges may take off the additional 7 points added for Honors, AP and college courses (if so, take off the 7 points before assigning the 4.0, 3.0, 2.0, or 0.0)

7 College Application Process Step 1 Research colleges for academic, financial and personality fit. Step 2 - Complete application to the colleges of your choice and locate their admission checklist. Note any deadlines imposed by the college, and plan ahead by two to four weeks (Step 2-4). Step 3 Contact the testing agency and order your SAT/ACT scores sent to the colleges. This can take six weeks. SAT: or (866) ; ACT: or (800) Step 4 Request teacher recommendations (if asked for by the college) at least two weeks ahead of deadlines. Each recommendation should be in a sealed envelope with the teacher's name signed on the back flap. Step 5 Complete the electronic Transcript Request form. Provide at least two weeks before the college deadline date. For counselor recommendations, upload a Senior Profile to your first request. Also, upload the college s counselor evaluation form (if required by college). You will receive notification when your request has been processed.

8 How To Request A Transcript Go to to complete the electronic Transcript Request form. Step 1 Complete a Student Profile. It must be submitted with your first transcript request. Your student profile only needs to be submitted one time. Enter your student Id number to access the student profile form. You must save your Student Profile as a PDF with the file name: lastname_firstname.pdf (ex. smith_john.pdf). Step 2 Complete each question under Transcript Requests as it pertains to contact information and transcript requests. If your school requires a counselor evaluation form, please paste the URL in the box below the name of the college. After typing in the name of each college and other pertinent information, initial and click submit. Step 3 You must send an official request through Parchment by clicking on the Parchment icon. Log in to your account and follow the instructions. You will receive an from Parchment letting you know your request is complete. You will receive two s if your transcripts have been successfully requested.

9 Step 3: How To Request A Transcript Through Parchment 1. Create a Parchment.com account 2. Log into your Parchment.com account 3. Go to My Transcripts 4. Search for and select destination 5. Confirm destination and delivery 6. Submit payment if necessary 7. Request is confirmed If you are over 18, you must request your own transcript. A parent may not request a transcript for you.

12 Colleges Visiting Milton Seniors are allowed 7 on campus college visits per school year. Students may sign up online through the Milton home page under the Students tab or sign up in person at the College and Career Center office between the hours of 11am-2pm. CCC office hours will begin Monday, September 25 th. Please sign up online for the visits at least 24 hours in advance Registration will officially end at 8:30 am the day before a scheduled visit. Permission forms will be picked up from the College and Career Center the morning of the scheduled college visit between 7:45 am and 8:20 am. Please read the college s admission website prior to the visit so that you will be well informed and ask appropriate questions. Remember that the college reps that visit Milton are also the persons reading your applications and making admissions decisions about you.

16 Georgia s HOPE Scholarship Program Qualifications for the HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarship Programs: Be a U.S. citizen and legal resident of Georgia Be a graduate of an eligible high school Maintain a minimum GPA in ALL core- curriculum subjects, including failing grades. Must have a valid Social Security number on file at the high school.

17 HOPE Scholarship Graduate with a 3.0 and Maintain a 3.0 in College Will pay a % amount of the standard tuition charges from the previous year- at an eligible postsecondary institution Will pay a % amount of the standard tuition charges from the previous year- at a private institution (not to exceed $3500/year); the Tuition Equalization Grant ($700) is available for FY 2012 at private institutions Hope will not pay for remedial of developmental courses If a student falls below a 3.0 GPA in college he/she may only regain HOPE one time Beginning with the class of 2015 (students entering 9 th grade in ), an additional rigor requirement has been added. Students must pass at least 2 courses from a list of academically rigorous courses. (ex: AP in core subjects, advanced math, advanced science, or advanced world language). This list will be provided by GSFC.

18 Zell Miller Scholar Program Students must meet all of the HOPE Scholarship Requirements PLUS The Program s payment guidelines are as follows: Graduate with a 3.7 or higher GPA in core subjects AND receive a score of at least 1200 combined Math and Critical Reading score on a single administration of the SAT or an ACT composite score of 26 OR Graduate as the Valedictorian or Salutatorian from an eligible high school Maintain at least a 3.3 GPA in college Must submit the Zell Miller Application Tuition fully paid for GA public colleges and technical college $4000/yr for 15 hours for FY 2012 for GA private institutions

19 The GPA FOR HOPE The GPA for HOPE will be determined by averaging ALL core curriculum coursework (English, Math, Science, Social Science, and World Language), including failing grades on a 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, F = 0). In addition, all weighted points are removed before the calculation and a 0.50 weighting is added back in for AP courses only. Middle school courses are not included in the HOPE calculation. Please note: A 2.99 GPA does NOT qualify you for HOPE. All calculations are done by the Georgia Student Finance Commission.

20 HOPE Scholarship Males must register with the Selective Service no later than 30 days before their 18th birthday. HOPE eligibility will be delayed until this requirement is met. 22 College-Bound Student Athletes NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse Are you planning on participating in intercollegiate athletics at an NCAA Division I or II institution? You must register with the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse. To register, prospective student-athletes should access the registration materials by visiting their website at When taking the SAT/ACT, enter 9999 for scores to be sent to NCAA Clearing House. You must request a transcript to be sent to the NCAA clearing house by using the electronic transcript (just as you would request a regular transcript). Do not request a transcript from the website. You are responsible for reviewing the NCAA requirements as they might differ from graduation requirements; please review the website. Please be aware that the NCAA Eligibility Center may not accept courses taken via PLATO, Georgia Credit Recovery, or other online programs. If you need to make up a class for credit recover, Fulton County Virtual Campus and Georgia Virtual Schools are available options.
