10 What are the entry requirements for the Sixth Form? Minimum entry requirement of 4 A*- C at GCSE or 9-4 Most subjects will require a 5 or above in English or Maths Many subjects require a B or 6 in their subject to carry it on at A level E.g.: the Sciences, Maths, Languages, English New subjects specify combinations of grades required e.g. Psychology, Economics A positive reference in terms of maturity and aptitude TJR

13 Graduation Programme When students leave George Abbot Sixth Form we feel it is important to not only recognise academic achievement but also the transferable skills & wider contributions to the school community. To reward these elements, students receive will graduation certificate & portfolio at a prestigious ceremony that takes place at the end of Year 13. KTO

14 Graduation Certificate Academic Element Achievement of minimum of 3 A Levels or BTEC equivalent. School or Community Service Evidence of hours service within school based activity. Graduation Certificate Individual Achievement Achievement of a personal goal that the student would like to achieve outside of academic attainment. Working With Others Participating in in a work experience activity related to possible future employment.

15 New A Level Structure The Department for Education began a reform of the A Level qualifications, decoupling the AS from the A2 thus making the A level a linear qualification just like GCSE s. The AS qualification still exists but it is stand alone and does not count towards the final A Level. All subjects are linear from September 2017 TJR

16 Change to AS Examinations All students will have the opportunity to pursue 4 subjects in Y12 (pathway dependent). AS Level examinations will be offered in limited number of subjects where it remains complementary to the A2 examination. This will confirmed at the Subject Information Evening in November.

17 AS Exams in 2019 Majority of students are studying 4 subjects If students wish to take an AS in the subject they intend to drop to gain a qualification they will be entered for this subject to sit exams in June. (depending on subject offer) Students will sit formal internal exams in their 3 others subjects in May to assess their progress in the first year of A level study. Meetings with identified students and parents will be made following the results of these exams. Resists may be used in July if further evidence is needed to determine students progress or to discuss further options to support students ahead of transition into Year 13.

18 Reasons for Changes to AS Exams All AS exams do not count towards full A levels. Increased teaching time to meet the demands of more challenging A level subjects. More flexibility over UCAS predictions. More support and intervention after exam period to guide students to improve and progress.
