Background Notes of Application The Hong Kong Institute of Housing ( the Institute ) is a professional body in Hong Kong for those who are engaged in the co-ordination and execution of housing services incorporating the design, provision, improvement, rehabilitation, management and administration of all types of housing. Among different classes of membership, only Corporate Members ie Fellow and Member are entitled to vote and counted as quorum at the general meetings of the Institute. II. Personal Data The information provided by applicants will be used for purposes relating to the vetting and approval of the application and the administration of the Institute. Applicants have the right of access to their personal data. The application should be completed in full and must be accompanied by the following documents as appropriate:- (a) photocopy of certificates relating to academic and professional qualifications; (b) photocopy for proof of satisfactory completion of the P.E.R. 2. In accordance with Clause 4(a)(iv) of the Institute s By-Laws, every application for election as a member shall, where applicable, be accompanied by a declaration with supporting document(s) (except in the case of Probationers and Registered Students) that the applicant has complied with the rules & requirements prescribed by the General Council of the Institute from time to time for the CPD Scheme

7 Annex I 4. Entrance Fee and Annual Subscription are payable upon application. Please refer to the Fee Schedule in item 8 below. Applicant is required to send the application form together with a crossed cheque payable to The Hong Kong Institute of Housing to the Secretariat of the Institute (Office address is stated above) for the appropriate amount. Cheque will only be presented for payment upon the applicants admittance to the Institute, otherwise, the cheque will be returned to the applicants in due course. Thereafter, subscription fee has to be paid annually for renewal of membership. Renewal of membership, upon fulfillment of the CPD requirement and the job relevance declaration, should be made not later than 30 Nov in the preceding year of renewal. 5. Any person who under the provisions resigns his membership shall remain liable to pay the amount of his current annual subscription or annual subscription next due and any other sums due from him to the Institute unless he has delivered to the Secretary in writing an intention to resign his membership at least one month prior to the date on which such subscription becomes due (By-Laws 27a). Financial year runs from 1 January to 31 December. 6. The General Council may require the applicant to attend an interview or other assessment, in particular, the applicant for M.H.K.I.H. will be required to attend a mandatory interview according to the General Council s latest policy, prior to election or admission of the applicant as a member. 7. Normal processing time for membership application is about three months. 8. 8 Fellow Summary on Entry Requirements Annex II under full time employment by a Housing Body or a Housing Organization not less than 10(ten) years related working experience in aggregate has been a Member of the Institute for a continuous period of not less than 7(seven) years has rendered service and contribution to the Institute in the opinion of the General Council Member under full time employment by a Housing Body or a Housing Organization completed from one of the following recognized courses: (1) Professional Diploma in Housing Management, HKU SPACE (2) BSc (Hons) in Property Management, Hong Kong Polytechnic University (3) BA (Hons) in Housing Studies, City University of Hong Kong (For admission on or before year 2009) (4) Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honors in Administration and Public Management, CityU (For admission on or before Year 2014) (5) Master of Housing Management (Professional Stream), Department of Urban Plan and Design, HKU. (6) MA in Housing Studies, City University of Hong Kong (7) Foundation Degree of Arts in Housing and Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Housing Studies, Leeds Beckett University (For admission on or before Year 2014 and 2015) (8) Bachelor of Social Sciences in Public Policy and Politics (Housing and Urban Studies Stream), Department of Public Policy, City University of Hong Kong completion of the Practical Experience Requirement(PER) at least 5(five) years related working experience Requirement of valid PER or CPD: (1) For applicant who applies for up-grading to Member, valid PER should be submitted i.e. PER should be completed within 2 years from the date of submission of the application for Members; or (2) For applicant who applies for Member but without valid PER as mentioned in item (1) above, there must be proof of relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in the year before submission of application Requirements for (1) and (2) above are subject to change from time to time at the sole discretion of the General Council. Mandatory Interview is required for applications submitted from onwards. For details, please refer to the Summary of Guidelines on Mandatory Membership Interview in the Institute s website.
