3 What are the International A Levels The General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (A Level) is a school leaving qualification offered by ISCAT College throughout Years 12 and 13. This is a two year study programme and is equivalent to the Baccalaureate. The A Levels are a natural progression from IGCSE and are well-recognised by Universities across Europe and the rest of the world. Our Students can choose FOUR subjects From the subjects they have studied at IGCSE. However, exceptional students are encouraged to choose FIVE. Each subject not only prepares our students for university life, but also for reaching an academic level equivalent to that of the foundation year at University. advanced/cambridge-international-as-and-a-levels/ Recognition of the A Levels Our learners can use Cambridge or Edexcel International AS and A Levels to gain places at leading universities worldwide including: The United Kingdom and Spain; Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Singapore, Egypt, Jordan, South Africa, the Netherlands and Germany; The Lisbon Convention (an international agreement signed by 50 countries and international organisations, including the European Union, USA, Australia, Canada, Israel and New Zealand) facilitates the recognition of foreign studies among the signatory countries.

4 What are the International A Levels A Level Course Structure The A Level course begins in Key Stage 5 which consists of Year 12 and Year 13. In Year 12 Students complete AS (Advanced Subsidiary Level) Levels with examinations and Coursework. The AS Level counts as 40% of an A Level. Year 13 students complete A2 (Second phase of the A level qualification) with exams and Coursework. The A2 counts as 60% of an A Level. The grading system is much like the IGCSE with grades ranging from A* - F these grades can be converted into Selectividad (Bachillerato) points for Spanish Universities. What are A Levels equivalent to? The A Levels are equivalent to "La Fase obligatoria" (previously known as la fase general) Some students wishing to enter top Spanish Universities will require La Fase voluntaria (previously known as la fase especifica) (See contents). However, should students require more flexibility, they could combine subjects from each category creating a more tailored learning experience.

6 British University Why choose a British University The UK higher education is among the best in the world and consistently performs well in world rankings. The UK has a global reputation for quality assured education. All universities and colleges in the UK are held to strict standards by the UK government so you know you are getting the best teaching, support and resources available. The UK teaching system is designed to encourage you to ask questions, debate and come up with your own ideas. UK universities and colleges combine practical learning with lectures and seminars and embrace innovative teaching methods and high-tech learning environments. There is a wide range of opportunities to gain practical experience. Many courses have options for work placements and internships that count towards your degree. Many offer the chance to gain professional accreditation too. How to get into British universities The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) is an independent charity providing information, advice, and admissions services to inspire and facilitate educational progression. UCAS provide the link between schools and British universities, providing all the information needed in order to choose a course, university and make the application. Each course has different requirements usually a mix of qualifications, subject or exam grades. The following websites have information regarding the courses and number of UCAS points needed to enter those courses. For example: A Levels in Physics, Maths and one other subject are required for Engineering A Levels in Drama, English literature and one other subject are ideas for Theatre studies or Audiovisuals.

7 British University Requirements for British Universities Qualifications, subjects and exam grades A levels or similar, and sometimes converted into UCAS Tariff points, which we will be explained below. Student suitability course descriptions often mention skills, interests or experience that is good to have, so look out for these details because applications can be quite competitive. An admissions test less common, but check course requirements to see if you ll need one, as some tests are held in autumn the year before the course start date. An interview you will be notified online after you have applied, but it may be worth doing some early preparation or putting together a portfolio if required. Further requirements it s possible there may be health, financial or DBS checks. UCAS Calculating your UCAS Points The system has changed in Currently there is no information available as to how this affects UNEDassis (Spanish university entry system), however here we will provide information for both the old conversion and the new version. With this you will be able to see the comparison and work out how grades could be consolidated for different grades. This information is subject to change as both the UCAS system and UNEDassis are undergoing reform. This will not affect the chances of going to Spanish Universities. A, A, B) Kingston University: 112 (E.g. B, B, C) Infrastructure Most A Level classes will be on a dedicated A level Site and will have a separate entrance. We have three potential sites prepared and we will choose the site that best meet the needs of the College. We will explain the details of the site in the A Level meeting in January. ISCAT College will have: Brand new A Level Physics and Biology lab A Level Student Common Room A level Computer Lab The day will begin at 10.00am and will finish at 5.30pm. Students will be able to leave the College premises at break times and lunch times and all will have an individualised timetable. They will have independent study periods during the day.

9 ISCAT College Careers Guidance Counsellor What is a Careers Guidance Counsellor? The guidance Counsellor is person responsible for a comprehensive, developmental programme designed to assist individuals in making and implementing informed educational and occupational choices. A career guidance and counselling programme develops an individual's competencies in self-knowledge, educational and occupational exploration and career planning. What are the main benefits of a Careers guidance counsellor? The careers guidance counsellor will: Control student applications to university in SPAIN (UNEDassis), UK (UCAS) or other countries Write a reference for students Guide students to know: Which University to choose; Which Course will best suit their needs; Which career options they will have; How to organize Work Experience (A week working in a company); How to write personal statements and CVs via tutorials.

10 Spanish University Access In this section are the details of how our students can enter the Spanish Higher Education system and details of how this would work at ISCAT College: UNEDassis Who are UNEDassis? What do they do? Accreditation Consolidation of A levels to the bachillerato What documentation is needed University applications What happens if students don t achieve their predicted grades? Are students treated as foreign? Who are UNEDassis? UNEDasiss is a UNED service created for the management of access and admissions of students to Spanish universities. It is especially directed at international students. Students from other international educational systems, having pre-university secondary studies that comply with the requirements needed to convalidate their studies to the Spanish Bachillerato. What do they do? UNEDassis convalidate A level grades into a Bachillerato final grade UNEDassis have a legal agreement with all Public Universities in Spain and process candidates from all foreign systems. 11 Spanish University Access Accreditation needed by ISCAT College We have signed the agreement and are in negotiations to become one of the institutions who work with UNEDassis. ISCAT is fully prepared to become accredited with UNEDassis, however must begin the A Level courses in order to do so. The main requirement is to become a member of NABSS, for which ISCAT has been inspected. How are A Levels convalidated into a Bachillerato equivalent? This process is done based upon the Official certificates for each individual candidate (A Level) A level grades represent a number of points which is converted into a Bachillerato level (La Fase obligatoria out of 10) Students wishing to increase their grade usually take La Fase Voluntaria THIS WILL BE COMPLETED AT ISCAT COLLEGE BY STUDENTS WITH THE GUIDANCE OF THE ISCAT COLLEGE CAREERS GUIDANCE COUNSELLOR UNEDassis entry requirements According to the official act, to enter into the UNEDassis system, students require: Acreditación de al menos cinco materias del Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) con calificación A, B o C, y de tres materias de nivel avanzado (AL) del General Certificate of Education (GCE) con calificación A*,A, B, C, D o E y un mínimo de 48 puntos de UCAS Tariff 2017 (o de las materias y niveles equivalentes del Scottish Certificate of Education, Advanced Higher). 12 Spanish University Access What documentation is needed to apply to Spanish Universities? To go to university, applications are made generally in May of Year 13, by the candidates themselves through their personal UNED Login; Students will be guided by our Careers Guidance Counsellor; Students complete exams and receive an official certificate. They then provide ISCAT College with their official certificates and ISCAT College sends them to UNEDassis. PLEASE NOTE - Students receive their certificates in August of Year 13. What do students do? ISCAT College makes predicted grade documents and we receive OFFICIAL forecast grade documents from CAMBRIDGE and EDEXCEL; ISCAT College will send these to UNEDassis and they consolidate the PREDICTED grades. UNEDassis entry requirements During preparation for ISCAT College A Levels, we have made strong connections with Kings College Madrid. The newest information is not currently available. However the following link comes from Kings College, the largest international school in Spain which, until this year, has only offered A levels. Students can still go to University if they do not achieve their predicted grades. Universities require a «nota de corte» (cut off grade) to enter: If students do not meet their predicted grades, but they are above the nota de corte they still have access to the University If students do not achieve the nota de corte, they will need to retake their A levels or repeat the process or go to a different university.

13 Spanish University Access Are students treated as foreign? No. Once students have their Bachillerato equivalent they have the same application process as other Spanish students. UNEDassis fees To be a part of the association it does not cost, however students will be expected to pay up to 35 Euros per subject and 30 Euros for their forecast grade certificates Course here refers to an individual A level: Opening of file (only paid in the 1st aplication): 30 Registry fees (paid in each application): 15 Establishment of the Bachillerato mode: 25 /mode Specific competency exams 1 course:35 2 courses: 60 3 courses: 80 4 courses: 100 Accreditation of language levels: 25 by language Thank you very much for coming to our event.
