Experience with providing leadership to comprehensive academic support services, developmental education and student affairs units. Demonstrated competence in the areas of staff supervision and training, strategic planning, business operations and administration, budget development and monitoring, assessment and evaluation of programs and services, and promoting intercultural dialogue, understanding, and respect among the university community. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE August Present Associate Vice President for Student Affairs Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, IL Assist the Vice President with providing leadership and strategic vision for areas within the Division of Student Affairs that focuses on student services, student involvement and intercultural affairs. I currently manage a portfolio that includes: Career Development Center, Student Disability Services, Student Affairs Communications, Undocumented Student Resources, and Student Health and Counseling Services. Other areas within Student Affairs include: Dean of Students, Residence Life, Student Advocacy, Judicial Affairs, Student Leadership Development, Campus Recreation, Academic and Community Partnerships, Student Union, and Event and Conference Services. In the absent of a Vice President, I work very closely with the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost to continue to lead the division and make strategic decisions in preparation of our first residence hall. The division has a staff of over 80 professionals and a budget of over 7 million. Selected Accomplishments in Student Affairs Developed processes and procedures to increase efficiency of the Division s business operations. Restructured several student affairs units including Student Health and Counseling Services, Student Disability Services, and Academic and Career Advising. Lead the Division s assessment and evaluation efforts. Assisted with the creation of the following areas: The office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (now the Dean of Students) and the office of New Students and Family Programs.

2 Lead the Division s customer service initiatives including the renaming of student affairs offices to better serve first generation college students. Worked with the University community to redesign the New Student Orientation program. Received grant funding for the creation and implementation of an Undocumented Student Project aimed at helping faculty and staff to be better equipped to support undocumented students and their families. Institutionalized the project in 2015, creating the first Undocumented Student Resources position in Illinois public higher education. Provided leadership for the creation of the (dis)ability Project, a campus wide initiative designed to improve services for students with disabilities. July 2010 August 2011 Dean of Academic Development Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, IL Provided leadership, supervision, and support to the following academic support and developmental units: Academic Advisement and Testing Center, Accessibility Center, Developmental Mathematics, Developmental Reading, English Language Program, Learning Center, Proyecto Pa lante, Project Success, Summer Transition Program, and TRIO Student Support Services. Responsible for 9 direct reports and over 80 indirect reports including approximately 15 faculty with an operating budget of over 4 million. Selected Accomplishments in Academic Support and Developmental Education Strengthen the Academic Advisement Center, Accessibility Center, and Learning Center including its tutoring services, math lab, and writing lab. Restructured Project Success, Proyecto Pa Lante and the Summer Transition Program and secured additional financial resources. Provided leadership and support for the creation, implementation and evaluation of Academic Development s strategic plan. Gained support for developmental education (math, reading and writing) initiatives in support of student retention. Co-chaired the task force for the creation of the Angelina Pedroso Center for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs which now houses the following resource centers: African/African American Resource Center, Asian/Global Resource Center, LGBTQA Resource Center, Latino Resource Center, and Women s Resource Center. Led units with the development, implementation and evaluation of unit assessment plans. Provided faculty development, program and curriculum development, and technology support to developmental faculty in Math, English and Reading. Assisted with the redesign of the University s placement and testing procedures. López 2

3 Led unit accreditation and collective bargaining efforts. Led area directors with the reallocation of resources including staff work plans in support of students. Created technology initiatives for the delivery of effective academic support services. June 2003 June 2010 Associate Dean of Academic Development and Director of NEIU-El Centro Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, IL Associate Dean - Assisted the Dean of Academic Development in providing leadership, supervision, budget monitoring and support to the University s academic support and developmental education units. Director of NEIU-El Centro - Provided visionary leadership and oversaw the overall operation of NEIU-El Centro (with a student enrollment of over 1000 students), including its academic offerings, student services and co-curricular programs, and community outreach activities; staff and faculty hiring, training, supervision and evaluation; fiscal management of over 2 million; and use of its facilities. Responsible for 5 direct reports and 30 part-time faculty. Selected Accomplishments at the NEIU-El Centro Increased student enrollments from 300 to over 1000 in three years with very limited financial and human resources. Partner with ASPIRA Inc. of Illinois to create and implement the ASPIRA/NEIU Early College program. Assisted department chairs with faculty development and evaluation and program and curriculum development. Increase general education offerings for evening and weekend students. Added the Social Work academic program for evening students and an ESL community program. Significantly increased professional and teaching staff and student services in support of students. Expanded tutoring services for students in writing, math, science and other general education courses. Added virtual Library Services with staff support. Created community partnerships and developed community programs in the areas of education, health, financial literacy, and housing. Develop NEIU s first International partnership in Latin America with the University of Guanajuato, Mexico. Developed co-curricular offerings including a peer mentorship program for first-year students. López 3

4 Developed and implemented a recruitment and retention program for NEIU-El Centro students which included holistic academic advisement, progress reports, and academic, career and cultural workshops. Developed an initial plan for the creation of a state of the art building to house the new El Centro, which opened in Fall June 1999 June 2003 Associate Dean of the College and Director of Intercultural Relations Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, IL Associate Dean of the College - Assisted with overseeing the division of student and academic affairs, including the administration of student advising, housing, residence life and staffing, social activities, student organizations, student government, community service, and judicial procedures.
