2 The Opportunity The Indiana Institute of Technology (Indiana Tech) community seeks applications and nominations of outstanding leaders for its next Vice President for Institutional Advancement. The Vice President for Institutional Advancement will have the opportunity to develop the fundraising operations of the institution, institute best practices and policies, and prepare for a capital campaign. The anticipated start date for the position is Summer, Indiana Tech Vice President for Institutional Advancement 2 Indiana Tech Vice President for Academic Affairs

3 The Institution Founded in 1930 as an engineering college for men, Indiana Tech today is a comprehensive institution with a core purpose of providing career-focused, professional programs of higher education. Indiana Tech is a four-year private, not-for-profit institution regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and has been an AQIP participant since In addition, the university is a member of the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL). Indiana Tech has cultivated a strong financial position over the last decade, a hallmark of a proactive business-model approach to decision-making and sound fiscal stewardship. The dedicated faculty and staff offer a rich mix of academic programming. Indiana Tech delivers programs on campus, in regional locations, and online, leading to degrees at the Associate s, Bachelor s, Master s and Ph.D. levels to both traditional and non-traditional students. Indiana Tech has three academic units: the College of Business; the College of Engineering, in which the School of Computer Sciences resides; and the College of Arts and Sciences, in which the School of Education and the Center for Criminal Justice reside. The three Colleges oversee Indiana Tech s academic programs for nontraditional students, administered through the College of Professional Studies (CPS). Several engineering programs are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), the Health Information Technology program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), and the College of Business is accredited by the International Assembly of College Business Education (IACBE). The School of Education holds candidacy status and has a planned visit by the Council for Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP) in March The traditional day student body includes 1,570 students who matriculate on the beautiful grounds of the residential main campus adjacent to downtown Fort Wayne, the second largest city in Indiana, whose revitalization in recent years has made it a regional success story. More than half of the day students are involved in NAIA intercollegiate athletic programs, many of which have national prominence. International students hailing from 34 countries make up nearly 20% of the day student population. More than 8,500 students are enrolled in the College of Professional Studies in undergraduate and graduate programs. CPS students typically take classes online, and/or at one of the 14 classroom locations in Indiana and Kentucky. The online program has steadily grown and at this time, approximately 75% of CPS classes are taken in the online format. There are also two online enrollment centers in Chicago and one in Detroit. 6 Background Dr. Karl Einolf assumed the presidency in July of 2017, and significantly increasing fundraising at the university is a key goal. This year, Indiana Tech has seen growth in enrollment to 1,570 students, and the campus has recently expanded its residential life services and facilities. The College of Professional Studies, in which the majority of students matriculate, has seen rapid growth and has expanded its reach across the state and into Illinois, Kentucky and Michigan. On the Fort Wayne campus, several state-of-the-art buildings and facilities have been recently constructed or upgraded, and the campus has little deferred maintenance. Indiana Tech is in excellent financial condition, with minimal debt. The endowment has grown to more than $130 million, with net surpluses smartly reinvested over the last several years. With a business-minded environment, the Indiana Tech community has a focus on career outcomes of its students and the institution has a history of moving expeditiously to achieve goals and objectives. 6 Indiana Tech Vice President for Institutional Advancement

7 Opportunities & Challenges President Einolf will be a willing partner with and supportive of the new Vice President for Institutional Advancement to enhance the development organization at Indiana Tech. Immediate fundraising efforts will target the expansion of the Engineering building and developing an athletics complex. A comprehensive campaign is anticipated in the next few years; fundraising will be tied to the new strategic plan covering The Vice President will work with the President and the Board of Trustees to engage the board members more directly in fundraising and establish a culture of major gifts coming from trustees, although a 100% giving record is already an established goal. Raiser s Edge as the university transitions its constituent management database. Another objective is to implement fundraising best practices, policies and procedures among the university community. A new Grants Manager position and an Assistant Director of Alumni and Student Engagement position were implemented to build a solid infrastructure and support the strategic plan. Also, a new Director of Development is in place to support more offcampus work for the Vice President and major gift officers. Key areas of responsibility for the Vice President include financial planning, budgetary management, constituent and departmental reporting, along with the annual fund, alumni relations, planned giving and grantsmanship. The Vice President for Institutional Advancement will be counted upon to support the ongoing implementation of 7 Indiana Tech Vice President for Institutional Advancement

8 Qualifications The campus community seeks a new Vice President for Institutional Advancement who is a person of high integrity and who possesses significant experience leading a fundraising operation. The successful candidate will possess at minimum a Bachelor s degree (a Master s degree is preferred), at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, preferably in higher education, as well as capital campaign and major gift experience. In addition, experience with supervision of multiple direct reports is highly desired. The Vice President will have excellent interpersonal and relationshipbuilding skills; the ability to work across the organization with fellow administrators, staff and faculty; and a willingness to travel extensively to represent Indiana Tech. 8 Indiana Tech Vice President for Institutional Advancement 8 Indiana Tech Vice President for Academic Affairs
