2 Career and Professional Development Office Page 2 of 33 Description of First Destination Placement Study Scope and Methodology This report includes first destination data about the August 2015, December 2015, and May 2016 UW-Platteville on-campus, baccalaureate degree recipients. The Career and Professional Development Office (CPDO) collected data from students via online survey and supplemented it with input from faculty and staff. For each graduating group, information was solicited for up to six months after graduation. Students were permitted to update their responses if their placement status changed during the six months. Data collection began in August 2015 and concluded in November Standards and Protocols The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) publishes a set of protocols, processes, and terminology associated with first destination placement surveys. NACE s standards for first destination surveys were used to inform UW-Platteville s data collection and reporting. a Report Compiled by Victoria Livingston, Coordinator of Co-Curricular Assessment and Program Review, Division of Enrollment and Student Success Trapper Mitchell, Career Counselor, Career and Professional Development Office Last Updated: June 2017 a Standards and Protocols for Collecting Graduate Outcomes (Undergraduate Degrees) (January 2014), available at:

3 Career and Professional Development Office Page 3 of 33 Terminology Term Definition Source Continuing This category is defined as those who have been accepted to and plan to NACE FDS Survey Education matriculate into a program of further study. This includes graduate school or other Standards and Employed Experiential Learning Placed Pursuing Placement Graduating class specialized training. All employed graduates may be employed as a post-graduate internship or fellowship, as an entrepreneur, in temporary/contract work, or in freelance. Employed full time is generally defined as a position in which the graduate works for 30 hours or more per week. Part-time employment is generally defined as a position in which the graduate works less than 30 hours per week. Students were asked if they had participated in an internship, co-op, or other type of experiential learning experience (such as, student teaching). In order to report on graduates experiential learning in more depth, revisions are planned for this question for the 2018 reporting period. The unique number of baccalaureate graduates for whom the university knows that they achieved some kind of post-graduation placement, including full- or parttime employment, enrolled in continuing education, enlisted in military service, or participating in a volunteer or service program (such as, the Peace Corps). Referred to as a career outcomes rate by NACE. The unique number of baccalaureate graduates for a particular unit whose first destination placement status is known to the university AND they indicate that they were actively looking for placement. This group excludes those who say that were not looking for placement. Each year s graduating class includes those on-campus students who completed degrees between July 1 to June 30 each year, a time period consistent with degree completion reporting standards established by the National Center for Education Statistics Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) program. For example, for purposes of outcomes reporting, the Class of would include all graduates who completed degrees between July 1, 2013, and June 30, Protocols, p. 9 Adapted from NACE FDS Survey Standards and Protocols, p. 5 UW-Platteville CPDO Adapted from NACE FDS Survey Standards and Protocols, p. 10 Adapted from NACE FDS Survey Standards and Protocols, p. 10 NACE FDS Survey Standards and Protocols, p. 4

4 Career and Professional Development Office Page 4 of 33 Term Definition Source Knowledge rate Percent of graduates for which the institution has reasonable and verifiable information concerning the graduates post-graduation career activities. This information may come directly from the graduates via, for example, a survey method. Relevant data, however, may also be provided by employers, or obtained through other sources (e.g., LinkedIn profiles, other online sources, fellow graduates, or parents). The institution should make good faith efforts to verify the information obtained by any source other than the graduate or in any case where there is some concern about the accuracy of the available information. Number of with Data Other Placement Placement by State Placement Rate Salary Offer Unique Number of The unique number of baccalaureate graduates for a particular unit whose first destination placement status is known to the university. Other placement includes those participating in a volunteer or service program (e.g., Peace Corps, mission work), or those in military service. Calculated using the location information reported for the employer, place of continuing education, or location of the volunteer/service work. Placement address is used instead of personal address, because a deeper analysis of the data has shown that approximately 70% of respondents gave the same address as their permanent address in PASS (i.e., for many this would be their parent s address). The percentage of the graduating class for which verifiable information is known who has achieved some kind of post-graduation placement, including full- or parttime employment, enrolled in continuing education, enlisted in military service, or participating in a volunteer or service program (such as, the Peace Corps). Referred to as a career outcomes rate by NACE. Starting salary information for graduates with full-time employment. Hourly wages converted to annual salary using the equation "Hourly Wage x 52 weeks x 40 hours/week. When less than three salaries are reported, salary information is withheld. The unique number of baccalaureate graduates for a particular unit. For example, the unique number of graduates for the College of Business, Industry, Life Science, and Agriculture. Students with more than one program within a particular college or the university are not counted twice.
