Gain credits towards the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) up to 8 points on completion Gain work history for your resume Gain nationally recognised qualifications & industry accepted skills Earn while you learn minimum of 50 days of paid employment over every 12 month Earn a wage $$$$$$$$$. 7 Apprenticeships - Traineeships Apprenticeships: Traineeships: Trade qualification Duration 3 4 years full time Ongoing commitment after Year 12 E.g. Carpenter, Mechanic, Chef, Hairdresser etc. Encompass most industries Duration 1 2 years Usually finished whilst a school student Retail, Hospitality, Sport & Recreation, Business & many more!

8 Impact on School Timetable To be a School Based Apprentice or Trainee it must impact on the school timetable. This impact is negotiated with the Deputy Principal. Work during school hours (generally a Wednesday) Complete theory training during school hours. Opportunity to drop a subject.

11 How do I get a SAT? Option One Finding your own SAT Research businesses in industry of interest Prepare resume & cover letter Approach business & enquire about opportunities If an opportunity arises, provide details to VET Coordinator (Ms Bennett) Complete necessary paperwork

12 How do I get a SAT? Option Two Advertised Positions Check your s for vacancies, Newsletter & Notice Boards for advertised positions. Liaise with VET Coordinator regarding positions Apply as directed Complete necessary paperwork

13 Conditions All School based traineeships and apprenticeships are subject to the approval of our Deputy Principal Student must maintain a satisfactory level of school work

26 How is VET different? Competency Based Program Students are judged as competent when they can demonstrate the required skill Just like any workplace, students must attend regularly to demonstrate their competence

33 Option 4 Other Registered Training Organisations There are thousands of organisations out there who can offer training either online or face to face. Try doing a google search for the area you are interested in and see what comes up. It is important to ensure they are offering a Nationally Recognised Qualification If you aren t sure, print out what you have found and come and see Mr. Roberts

34 What YOU need to do Option 1: Choose certificate course on school subject selection form Option 2: Complete the online application form on the TAFE website for your desired course before or during your SET Plan Option 3: Complete SCTTTC application form hand into Mr Roberts or Ms Bennett by 1 September 2017 Option 4 Research a course online and then make a time to meet with Mr. Roberts to discuss your options

35 The VET investment budget provides funding for students to complete one VETiS qualification listed on the Queensland Training Subsidies List while at school.
