1 PURPOSE OF THE STRATEGIC ENROLLMENT AND RETENTION MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK This is a four year 1 strategic enrollment and retention management framework for Metropolitan State University starting with the school year. The purpose of the Metropolitan State University enrollment management framework is to: Provide the right coordinated goals, processes and tools to recruit, enroll, retain and graduate the students that are best served by the university. Optimize university, college and program enrollment. Provide students with access to the programs and services that meet their needs and goals. Support adequate and appropriate student academic support services. Align the university s fiscal resources to meet its enrollment management goals. Align enrollment services with the mission of the university which is, Support the Academic Quality Improvement Process (AQIP) for institutional accreditation. Make sure that Metropolitan State University remains the most accessible university in the Twin Cities. AQIP Goal 1 (AQIP 8) Integrate Strategic Enrollment and Retention Management into the University s Planning and Resource Management Processes. [Goal 1 Strategies] 8 a. University Budget Development Design and implement processes that use key inputs to and outcomes from the SERM framework (e.g. enrollment goals and growth rates), to develop the university s budget. 8 b. Enrollment and Resource Assumptions Use university enrollment goals and growth rates to develop resource assumptions. 4 c. Employee Satisfaction, Development and Retention Identify, develop, and implement processes that improve employee satisfaction, professional development, and retention. 2 AQIP Goal 1 (AQIP 8) Integrate Strategic Enrollment and Retention Management into the University s Planning and Resource Management Processes. [Goal 1 Strategies] 8 d. To avoid duplication of effort to ensure policies adopted earlier and/or for another purpose do not undermine SERM goals alignment. Classroom Space Evaluate and improve the classroom, space allocation and management processes to make it easier to assign appropriate instructional space (proper teaching and learning technologies and labs) to the right classes at the times and places convenient for the greatest number of students. Incorporate SERM into the Colleges Incorporate the policies, principles and practices of strategic enrollment and retention management into the planning and operations of each college. 6 b. Student Advising Develop and implement appropriate advising processes across all colleges in the university that help students to clarify their learning, career and life goals and develop educational plans to meet these goals. 3 c. Student Learning Needs and Goals Modify, develop and implement processes to determine the learning needs and goals of current/prospective students in the university s service area and use this information. 3 d. Customized Training/Education Needs Develop and implement processes to determine the customized training/education needs in the university s service area. To ensure successful enrollment, retention and success for students who transfer to Metropolitan State University.
