A multivariate analysis was conducted to determine the impact of SES factors on residential segregation patterns. An index of segregation was constructed to compare these patterns in relation to the distance of the SMA from the Mexico-U.S. border. PROGRAM DIRECTOR: The Faculty Transculturation Program A faculty, professional staff and administrator development program initiated in at TAMUK. The program was originally funded by a Department of Education grant under the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education. It has been institutionalized at the University as a budget line-item. TAMU-Corpus Christi adopted the Transculturation model and 11

12 university faculty participated in a joint program. The professional development program incorporates a post-graduate course on Mexican Americans in U.S. society focusing on the state of Texas. It is presented through weekly, three hour seminars conducted by consulting Mexican American scholars. It includes a two-week language and culture immersion experience for the selected participants at the Spanish Language Institute in Cuernavaca, Mexico 12
