The prerequisite of 663 (Trial Ad I) may be waived in the case of 2L students selected on the basis of tryouts. Students should add this course only after the selections are made. Students taking Trial Ad Competition MAY NOT receive credit toward graduation for both the competition class and Trial Ad II. For credit for the symposium, students must attend one or two classroom sessions as scheduled by the professor before and/or after the symposium; attend the symposium itself; and write a page paper addressing one of the topics covered in the conference sessions.
12 VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION: DROPPING AND ADDING COURSES During the first week of classes each semester, students may drop or add most non-required courses without academic penalty, subject to requirements outlined in the previous section. After the end of the first week of classes, a student may drop a course only with permission of the Dean or his designee, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. An administrative fee may be charged or a W assigned for each drop or add. Students, however, may not withdraw from clinics, trial advocacy classes, and mini-courses for which they are enrolled in the following semester after the last day of classes (April 23) for the current semester unless unusual circumstances exist. OTHER NOTICES Students may not take more than two seminars during law school. Students may not take more than one seminar a semester. No more than three hours of Independent Study may count toward the J.D. degree. A student may register for only one Independent Study project each semester. Approval for Independent Study must be granted by the professor and the Dean before registering for the hours. Students may use a limited number of credit hours toward graduation from the following: o Independent Study o Externships o Journal Credit o Moot Court/Trial Advocacy Competition Credit o Classes taken in another department A student wishing to take up to 6 hours of graduate work from other divisions of The University of Alabama must receive prior approval by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. students must be enrolled for at least 10 hours. No student may enroll, except in extraordinary circumstances and with permission of the dean or his designee, in more than 16 hours during the regular semester. Permission to take more than 16 hours even applies to joint program/dual enrollment students taking a majority of classes in another department. If a student is permitted to take an examination at a time other than the regularly scheduled time, he or she will receive a grade of P (pass), D (unsatisfactory), or F (fail). ***Note: Some divisions on Campus may charge students outside their divisions an additional fee for taking their classes.
