2 June 5 - July 1, 2017 Immerse yourself in experiential learning spend the Semester in Rome with College of the Canyons and ACCENT. Rome becomes an extension of your classroom as you explore Roman cathedrals, monuments, churches, museums and galleries while attending classes at the ACCENT Study Center with visiting faculty. Participants on the Summer in Rome Program live in student apartments located throughout the city. The ACCENT Rome Study Center also provides support and guidance to students on each of its programs. Once you have enrolled, you will receive more detailed application and enrollment forms as well as a student handbook. Or visit the program website: Student Services: The ACCENT Centers ACCENT is an independent study abroad program provider with a multinational team of staff members who all have personal knowledge in study abroad. With more than 25 years of experience coordinating high-quality overseas study programs, ACCENT works in partnership with U.S. colleges and universities to develop academically challenging and culturally enriching overseas study experiences in Paris, Florence, London, Madrid and Rome. Each city is home to a fully staffed ACCENT Study Center that serves as a home base for program participants. The ACCENT San Francisco Center coordinates program enrollment and pre-departure preparation for students, helping to make their transition to living overseas as smooth as possible. The fully-staffed ACCENT Rome Study Center, located in the historic city center near the Piazza Navona, serves as a home base to program participants. The ACCENT Study Center is open during the week for students to access the resource and lending library, use the computer lab, ask questions, collect their mail and take advantage of a variety of other student services. Application & Enrollment The Summer in Rome program is open to anyone who is over 18 at the time of application. Program space is limited. Students should send in the enclosed application with the $250 non-refundable first payment as soon as possible. Upon receipt of your application and first payment, ACCENT and College of the Canyons will send you additional application and enrollment forms. Applications must be received by March 24, Beyond March 24, limited enrollment is allowed when space permits. Transferable Academic Credit The Summer in Rome program is offered for transferable college credit through College of the Canyons. College of the Canyons will provide a transcript upon request for the coursework completed overseas. Please verify the transferability of courses with your advisor or registrar before you apply.

3 Academic Curriculum Students on the Summer in Rome program must enroll in both courses for a total of 6 credits. Upon arrival all participants will be given a five-hour survival Italian course. Both courses are CSU transferable. HRMGT 102: Introduction To The Tourism Industry Units: 3.00 CSU hours lecture. Examines operations, principles and trends in the emerging tourism industry, emphasizing the marketing and the competitive service strategies of major tourist attractions. ART 205: Landmarks Of Art And Visual Culture Units: 3.00 UC:CSU hours lecture. Introduces great works of art and visual cul ture, both past and present, as a means of stimulating visual, emotional, and intellectual awareness of the artistic heritage of world art. Program Faculty Professor Kevin Anthony is the Department Chair for the Hotel and Restaurant Management program at College of the Canyons. During his third year of college, he studied at Loyola Chicago Rome Center of Liberal Arts and has visited Rome on numerous occasions. This travel abroad program will be his fourth trip with students from College of the Canyons. As a student in Rome, I found that my experience in this wonderful city was transformational in my education and created interests and curi osities that I still pursue. Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, Professor Michael McCaffrey has been teaching Art & Art History at College of the Canyons since He received a BFA from Glasgow School of Art in Scotland and a Masters in Fine Art from the University of Illinois after emigrating to the USA in His artwork is represented in public and private collections throughout the USA and Europe, such as the June & Francis Spiezer Collection at the Rockford Art Museum in Rockford, Ill., and Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. This travel abroad program will be his third trip with students from College of the Canyons. Participants attend on-site lectures at museums and historical sites within and outside of Rome. These sites include: Vatican Museum & Sistine Chapel Villa Borghese Capitoline Museums Castel Sant Angelo Colosseum & Roman Forum City Museum of Rome St. Sebastian / Stephens catacombs St. John Lateran Santa Maria Maggiore St. Paul outside the Walls Santa Maria Trastevere Trevi Fountain Spanish Steps Via Condotti Piazza del Popolo Piazza Navona St. Peter s Vittorio Emanuele Museum & Military Museum The Pantheon Also available on the program are two optional one-day excursions to Venice ($185) and Milan ($170), including transportation and entry fees as well as a two-day/ one-night excursion to Pompeii/Herculaneum ($255), including transportation, double/triple/quad accommodation and entries. Excursions and visits are chosen based on the academic curriculum and are subject to change.

4 Program Price: $2,675 plus a $150 refundable security deposit (The price is based on 20 or more program participants. If less than 20 students enroll in the program, the cost is subject to change.) ACCENT will organize an optional round-trip group flight from Los Angeles. Airfare is not included in the program fee. Group flight participants will be met at the airport in Rome and transferred to their housing. Group flight participants returning to the U.S. on the group return date will receive transportation to the Rome airport. Students enrolled in the Summer in Rome Program will receive detailed optional group flight information approximately four months prior to departure. Estimated airfare $ $2150. Payment Schedule (not including airfare) Non-refundable first payment $250 Final payment due March 27 $2575 The above breakdown includes the $150 refundable security deposit. The payment schedule is the applicant's contractual obligation. Failure to make each payment when due shall automatically cancel participant from the program one week after payment due date. All payments are effective the day they are received by the ACCENT San Francisco Center. ACCENT, in its sole discretion, may reinstate an applicant subject to availability of space and late enrollment fees. ACCENT charges a $30 bounced check fee for each check received that is not promptly paid by your bank in the normal course of business. College of the Canyons Fees A $46-per-unit enrollment fee must be paid to College of the Canyons at the time of registration. Nonresidents of California pay $225 per unit. Fees are set by the State of California and are subject to change. Students must provide proof of travel insurance at time of registration. Student Housing Students live in double/triple occupancy rooms in shared student apartments. Student apartments include shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. Apartment buildings are co-ed with single-sex apartments and bedrooms. Housing is provided from the first day of the program, on June 5, Cancellations All cancellations must be made in writing to ACCENT and College of the Canyons and are effective the date of receipt by ACCENT. Participants are liable for payments until written cancellation is received. All students must enroll for course credit (credit/no credit option available when indicated in the catalog); no auditors are allowed. Units and course grades will be awarded by the District. ACCENT is not responsible for the academic segment of the program except as specified in the contract between ACCENT and Santa Clarita Community College District. Nor is ACCENT responsible for airline delays of any kind, or for expenses or loss incurred as a result of such delays. With regard to transportation/ travel, regardless of the type of vehicle, ACCENT acts for the passenger as agent only. ACCENT assumes no liability for accident, injury, damage, or loss in any vehicle, or as a result of default by any person or company engaged in transporting the passenger.
