1 WARRIOR COUNSELING CONNECTION Important Dates September 4 First day of school September 12 Registration deadline for October SAT September 13 ACT Testing September 19 Last day to add a semester course to schedule On August 28 th, hundreds of freshman and new students attended an orientation at FHS. Students and families were greeted by student volunteers, administration and counselors. Families gathered in the auditorium to listen to the presentation regarding expectations, a typical day at FHS, dress code, lockers, different support systems and more. At the conclusion of the presentation, students were able to pick-up a copy of their schedule and tour the building to locate their lockers and classrooms. Students from the JROTC program were on hand to assist families with any questions. It was a great chance for new students to break the ice before the big day! Thank you to all who assisted in making the evening a success! The beginning of the school year is a great time to try new things and meet new people. FHS has many different clubs, activities and sports that meet the different interests of all of our students. This year s list of clubs and activities can be found on the FHS website, under Guidance, FHS Clubs & Activities. Check it out!

2 Schedule Changes We know the beginning of the year can be very stressful and you want your year to go just right. Sometimes there is a change of heart regarding a class or there was a mistake in a schedule. Your School Counselor is available to discuss these issues and assist when she can. However, we are not miracle workers! Please keep in mind the following when requesting an elective change, we can only change to another class in the same class period, a drop/add request MUST be completed prior to any changes being made, counselors will discuss the possible benefits as well as possible negative impacts the schedule change may have. Please review the IMPORTANT information below from the FHS Program of Studies. No student will be permitted to drop a course after October 3, 2014 without the express written permission of the parent, teacher, department supervisor, director of guidance, and the principal. After October 3, 2014 a student who withdraws from a year or semester course at any time will receive a Withdraw Pass (WP) or Withdraw Fail (WF) on his transcript. No new elective additions may be added after September 19, 2014 for a semester course and October 3, 2014 for a full year course. Second semester elective additions may be added no later than the third week of the second semester. Additionally, the student is responsible for completing all missed work. First Time SAT Registration When registering for the SAT, please follow the steps below. Go to Click on SAT in top left corner Click on Register Now in top right corner If you do not already have a College Board account, click on Sign Up o Next you will create a username and password keep this information as you will need it to send your SAT scores and sign-up for future tests Be Aware of Registration Deadlines!!!! There is a LATE FEE!!! If you receive free/reduced lunch you may be eligible for a fee waiver. A fee waiver can be obtained from the Counseling Office Secretary.

3 ATTENDANCE Student attendance is an integral part of one s education. If the student is not in the classroom, he cannot learn the necessary materials to succeed. New Student IDs If students have frequent issues with attendance, they run the risk of losing credit in their class. In a full year course, students are allowed a maximum of 18 unexcused absences. In a semester course, students are allowed a maximum of 9 unexcused absences. Please refer to your student handbook for a more in depth overview of the attendance policy. This includes descriptions of excused and unexcused absences. If you are going to be absent, please have a parent/guardian call the school to report your absence. On the day you return to school, you should provide a parent note explaining your absence. If you have a note from a doctor, please provide that as well. All new students are required to have their picture taken for a school ID. Please see Mr. Gaber in room C- 212 during PERIOD 4 only. He will take your picture and create an ID card. Genesis Parent Portal FHS utilizes Genesis as a way for parents and teachers to communicate. Student schedules, grades and assignments can be located in the Genesis Parent Portal. If you do not have an account, please go to the Counseling Office to pick up a registration form.

4 NAVIANCE Naviance is a college and career-planning tool utilized by the FHS Counseling Department. It is available to students in all grade levels and offers several different resources. Please take a look at what it has to offer to assist you in planning your future. If you haven t yet signed in to Naviance and are unsure of your username and password, please see your counselor for assistance. Ensure that your counselor has your most up to date address and your parent s address. This will help make sure you receive up to date information from the Counseling Office. UPCOMING COLLEGE VISITS Several colleges and universities will be visiting FHS in the upcoming months. These visits are available to juniors and seniors. You can view the upcoming visits through your Naviance account. When you sign-in, click on the Colleges tab and the upcoming visits will be listed to the right under Upcoming Visits. Remember to sign into Naviance frequently to check upcoming dates for more schools. Please sign-up via Naviance so you can ensure you receive a pass for the visit.

5 Meet the Counselor! Mrs. Kimberly Fromme 1. What colleges did you attend and what were your majors? I attended The College of New Jersey as an undergraduate and earned my BA in English, Secondary Education. I then returned to TCNJ to earn my MA in School Counseling. 2. Did you always want to be a counselor? If not, what other careers did you consider? When I was in high school, I was inspired by my sophomore English teacher to become a high school English teacher. However, after working in the classroom for nine years, I realized that my true calling was school counseling. 3. What was your first job? My first job ever was in high school and I pumped gas at my friend s dad s gas station. My first professional job was teaching English at Hillsborough High School for nine years. 4. What is most memorable about your high school years? I remember the clubs and activities I was involved with as well as my friends. I have actually organized my high school graduating class s last two reunions. 5. Who/what inspires you? My mom continues to inspire me. I am the oldest of seven children and I often think, how did she do it?. I have two young boys and consider my hands full! 6. What word describes you best? Kindhearted 7. What is your favorite thing to do when you have a few hours to yourself? I love to work on my children s scrapbooks/baby books and I also love to read. 8. What is your favorite sport or team? PHILADELPHIA EAGLES! 9. If you could spend an entire day doing anything you wanted, what would you do? I would relax on the beach with my family and friends. 10. What is your favorite food? Toss up between sushi and pizza 11. Do you have a favorite book? The Perks of Being a Wallflower 12. What is one item you could not live without? It isn t really an item, but I would have to say my family. 13. What is your favorite season? Summer 14. Do you have any pets? I have two cats, Philly and Cleveland (named after mine and my husband s favorite cities/hometowns).
