2 The OAE experience Oasis Academy Enfield is a vibrant and exciting place to study. You will experience a state-of-the-art learning environment, dividing your time between our 30M academy building, and your own, dedicated Sixth Form centre both equipped with outstanding IT facilities. Situated on the edge of Innova Park, you are able to take advantage of unique enrichment opportunities, with the chance to gain work experience at huge brand-name companies, including John Lewis and Sony. This year saw our first ever and Level 3 exam results for both Year 12 and Year 13 students. We were delighted with our 97% pass rate in A2 and Level 3 qualifications alongside the 95% pass rate in our AS. Our comprehensive Sixth Form features qualifications strongly and we are pleased that 53% of our Level 3 students achieved the highest awards of Distinction and Distinction-Star qualifications. Our A Level courses received an Alps ranking of Very Good graded 4 (of 9) and our L3 vocational courses received an Alps ranking of Outstanding graded 2 (of 9). Alps is a national measure used by schools and Ofsted to assess student progress Post 16. The reports are designed to give a school or college analysis on how they have performed against national benchmarks, at student, subject and overall level. We are committed to continuing the high standards set by our staff and students next year and continue to aim high. Teachers are the foundation of any good school, and at Oasis we provide strong teaching and support staff, which we believe will deliver a consistently excellent learning experience for all our Sixth Formers. Our teachers pride themselves on being approachable, understanding and supportive. Over the years, many visitors have commented on the family atmosphere that pervades the Academy, and our provision at Key Stage 5 is no different. Students who attend our Sixth Form can expect to enjoy their learning, and make rapid progress. Our Sixth Form is driven by our core values of progress for all. At the heart of all that we work for is our passion for students to leave the Academy as independent, adult citizens, ready to live and succeed in today s world. With 74 per cent of our Year 13 cohort heading to university this year, we are dedicated to support our students with their chosen future path. 2

4 Helping YOU to succeed Our curriculum has been carefully designed to reflect the aspirations and needs of our students. Our course offer caters for all students, regardless of their starting point, allowing every single individual to make progress towards their personal goals. We offer s in a range of traditional facilitating subjects highly regarded by universities, as well as more modern courses such as Media Studies, Business and ICT that have clear real-world applications. We are unique in the number of courses we offer. For those seeking professional and vocational study opportunities, we offer a variety of Level 3 subsidiary diplomas. These courses can be combined freely with s, allowing students the flexibility to study in both professional and academic pathways at the same time and in a way that complements their strengths and supports their areas for development. Regardless of the type of course, you will find that our teachers have outstanding subject knowledge, strong teaching skills and a deep-rooted commitment to helping students progress. What makes our Sixth Form so distinctive is our willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty in supporting our pupils to succeed. With key educational partners such as the PiXL organisation, Alps and The Access Project, we have plenty of expertise at our disposal to help you reach the next level. 8 Oasis Plus Oasis Plus is a new package of activities designed to give you the skills, experience and confidence to succeed at the highest level and have access to the best jobs, the most sought after university places, and the most fulfilling careers. Through Oasis Plus we want to give you that something extra, something that will mark you out to employers and university admissions tutors as a special candidate, on top of your excellent grades. We know that, as an Oasis Academy Enfield student, you are special; Oasis Plus allows you to demonstrate your talents and build on them. Oasis Plus consists of four strands. The first is our guidance and support programme, delivered in partnership with The Access Project, which pairs you with mentors based with blue-chip companies in the City of London and elsewhere; the second is our employability placement programme. This is delivered in partnership with Enfield Learning and Skills for Work Service, involving a half a day a week on placement with a local employer for a term, developing real experience of how workplaces operate and what demands the world of work will make of you. Employers involved, most of whom are based on Innova Park, are drawn from a range of industries and include national and international businesses including John Lewis and Sony. Thirdly, a series of short Oasis Plus special interest courses delivered in partnership with Barnet and Southgate College enable you to supplement your mainstream studies with the development of entrepreneurial or practical skills in an area where you may always have had an interest. Finally, a partnership with the local voluntary sector opens up a range of volunteering opportunities. This provides a valuable way of developing your own skills and knowledge while making a real contribution within the community or to a cause that matters. We want every one of our students, including every member of our Sixth Form, to develop into an effective citizen and a valued member of tomorrow s workforce, either as an employee or an entrepreneur. Oasis Plus is a practical expression of this aspiration and a central part of the Sixth Form experience at Oasis Academy Enfield. 8

10 Beyond the classroom As our commitment to developing Oasis Plus demonstrates, we believe that education is about more than just grades. At Oasis Academy Enfield all students will have the chance to experience a range of extra-curricular opportunities that will help them grow as people and prepare for the wider world. Sixth Formers at the Academy regularly support those lower down through mentoring and reading programmes, and by volunteering to provide in-class support in one of their key subject areas. Some of our Sixth Formers already work in local primary schools, youth centres and homes for the elderly. We believe that Sixth Formers should have a say in the issues that affect them, and we have a well-developed Sixth Form Student Leadership that allows pupils to debate and make decisions which our Sixth Form leaders pledge to act on. The committee also helps to raise funds for local and global charities, and organise social events, making sure that our Sixth Formers take time to enjoy each other s company and relax amidst the hard work and challenge. This year sees the official re-launch of Sixth Form Societies. The societies are aimed at giving students the freedom to participate in extra-curricular activities that are of interest to them and lead these to develop ownership, responsibility and leadership skills. With societies from Debating, Christian Union, Book Club to Yoga; we have something for everyone. 10

12 Support and guidance The quality of care, guidance and support is something that truly sets our Sixth Form apart. Our staff have a passion for helping students to achieve their goals, and show this commitment through the many hours that they spend supporting Sixth Formers in coursework and preparing them for exams. Each term, we put on an array of raising-attainment activities outside ordinary lesson times, designed to help students progress towards their target grades. In designing these raising attainment strategies, we receive cutting edge advice from the PiXL organisation a supporting body with a proven record that now works with over 400 schools in the UK. At Oasis Academy Enfield, we have invested in a first-class team to lead Sixth Form achievement. Our students are supported by a dedicated Assistant Principal - Director of Post- 16 Studies, a pastoral head of Year 12 and 13, and a full-time administrative assistant. Together, this team ensures that the highest standards are maintained for our Sixth Form students. Each Sixth Former will find themselves part of a learning family of around 20 students, with a learning guide who knows their strengths, oversees their achievements and communicates directly with their family. This personal approach helps students in our Sixth Form to thrive in an atmosphere of close support. As part of Oasis Plus, Sixth Formers at Oasis Academy Enfield have the chance to sign up to The Access Project, which is unique amongst Enfield schools. The Access Project supports students to work towards higher education by pairing them with graduate mentors from top London companies. These mentors will advise you on your work and your university applications, giving you expert guidance and putting you on a fast track to success. 12

14 What the students say This year I have studied Further Maths at UCL. My school was very supportive and believed that I could be successful and even paid for my extra tuition at the university. I am proud of my achievements this year, gaining four AS levels at A grade. This was only possible because of the support given to me by the school and The Access Project, which OAE uses to help and support us in our studies. Toyo currently studying Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics in Year 13 My teachers are very supportive of my studies and have really guided me. I am now more determined than ever to succeed. Georgina currently studying History, Psychology and Sports in Year 13 I have enjoyed my time at the Academy so far, as Headboy I am excited with the re-launch of the Sixth Form Societies and I am particularly looking forward to being a part of and leading the Debating Society which I think will benefit my passion for public speaking and ignite the same passion in others. Jodran currently studying History, English Literature, Sociology and Philosophy in Year 13 There are always opportunities to extend our ability, this summer I was accepted into a computer coding course at the University of East Anglia s Summer School, without the teachers who encouraged me to apply and helped me step-by-step I would not have had this experience. It was informative and fun! Ugur currently studying ICT, Business Studies, Turkish and Graphics in Year 13 The teaching staff here at OAE are very supportive, I was very pleased with my AS results. Being in the Student Leadership Team as Deputy Headboy has given me opportunities to take on responsibilities and I really enjoyed hosting celebration evening. Dylan currently studying History, Philosophy and Sociology in Year 13 14
