Please note that any information included in this handbook is subject to change due to new mandates by TCC or EMS-ISD. Contact Information The College & Career Readiness Specialists (CCRS) are the campus coordinators for dual credit. The CCRS works with student s counselors and TCC to ensure correct enrollment in both courses at TCC and EMS-ISD. The campus CCRS is an advocate for students. Please let your campus CCRS know of any concerns during the enrollment process, or through the duration of course work. While dual credit courses are often taught on the secondary school campus to high school students only, a high school student also can take a course on the college campus and receive both high school and college credit. Dual Credit courses include both academic and technical courses. These courses are stepping stones from high school to college, serving as a path to academic degree programs or college-level workforce education courses. (Source: TCC) Dual Credit Benefits Dual Credit provides the following benefits to students: Receive high school and college credit for courses in which they earn a C or better Satisfy Advanced Measures requirements for the Distinguished Achievement Program Graduate from their high schools with transferable college credits Fast-track their undergraduate or vocational degrees Save on tuition and fees by accelerating time to complete a degree Have access to the full range of TCC services Experience college culture Gain confidence to succeed in college 3

4 Dual Credit Eligibility Dual Credit through TCC is limited to high school students in grades 11 or 12. Dual Credit students: Must meet TSI eligibility requirements for college-level coursework May not be enrolled in more than two dual credit courses per term (6 credit hours per semester) Are not eligible to enroll in developmental courses for dual credit Must earn a C or higher in each course attempted to remain eligible for dual credit coursework (If a student receives a D or F for any course, they are no longer eligible for any dual credit courses throughout high school.) Cost Tuition is $59 per credit hour. A 3 credit hour course will cost $ Remember, most courses have a fall and spring class to complete high school requirements. If you plan on taking one course like English III, the cost will be $ (ENGL ENGL 1302). Other expenses will include, but may not be limited to textbooks. Some of the dual credit classes in this category are only offered on a TCC campus. 5 Dual Credit Classes taken on your own time at TCC The following dual credit classes can be taken at TCC on a student s own time (outside the school day). Students will still receive both high school and college credit upon successful completion of these courses. The enrollment process for these courses is different than the process for courses listed on the previous course offerings chart. However, the enrollment process begins with the campus CCRS. Enrollment differences are italicized throughout this handbook. 6 Course Times by Location Dual Credit Classes at EMS-ISD The following are projected dates, times and locations of dual credit courses for the school year. Classes will only be offered at the location and time if there is enough enrollment to support the class. For a course to be held, 15 students must complete the enrollment process AND pay for the course. Week of May 23, 2016 CCRS will return needed documents for registration to students wanting to take dual credit courses at TCC on their own time during the fall. Students need to know what section they want to take to get approval from CCRS. May 25, 2016 Final Fall 2016 & Spring 2017 student rosters for dual credit courses on an EMS-ISD campus will be posted in campus College & Career Center. May 27, 2016 Payments due for EMS-ISD students taking a summer dual credit courses at the HCTC. First Day of School, Students taking dual credit courses during the school day will report to designated August 2016 location at home campus for dual credit orientation. This orientation will occur during the period that your dual credit course is scheduled. Students taking dual credit courses before the start of the school day, please visit the College and Career Center during your lunch period to receive your orientation information. 8 Dual Credit Enrollment Process The dual credit enrollment process is very important in ensuring that students meet qualifications and are enrolled dual credit courses of their preference. The enrollment procedures differ slightly depending on where a student selects to take their courses. The campus CCRS will submit all documentation (except payment) for students that are taking any course on an EMS-ISD campus in the summer, fall, or spring, as well as students taking Firefighter and Aircraft Technology. If you are taking a course on any TCC campus (excluding Firefighter and Aircraft), you will work with the CCRS but will be responsible for registering for your course directly at TCC. Below is a side-by-side overview of the differences in enrollment procedures. Each portion of the dual credit enrollment process is explained in detail following the chart. If you have questions about either process please feel free to contact your campus CCRS. 9 EMS-ISD Enrollment Packet The enrollment packet is a way for the campus CCRS to monitor student interest and progress through the enrollment process. The enrollment packet is located with the campus CCRS or counselor. The enrollment packet includes the following: Student Information Page, Active Apply Instructions, Early Enrollment/Residency Form, and Dual Credit Grant Fund Form (Financial Aid). Completed packets are to be turned into the campus CCRS by the designated due date. Student Information Page The Student Information page provides basic information that is need for the CCRS to enroll students in the correct classes and sections of dual credit. Active Apply Active Apply is the system students use to complete their application to TCC. This step must be completed prior to any other step of the enrollment process. After completion of the online Active Apply, you should receive an from TCC with your TCC ID number included. Please write this number on the Student Information Page of the enrollment packet for verification that this step is complete. Follow the instructions below to complete the TCC application. Active Apply Instructions Before completing Active Apply, make sure you have your social security number and a working address. 1. Go to 2. Click on Active Apply. 3. Input all personal information. Please use your full name (what is on your birth certificate), If you do not have an address, instructions will pop up to help you create a free account. When finished click, Continue. Page 1 1. Where it states I am applying for, please choose Undergraduate Admission (DO NOT select Continuing Education) 2. Where it states The primary reason for attending TCC, please choose Dual Credit. 3. Continue filling out personal information. When finished click Next. Page 2 1. Completely fill out all personal information. When finished click Next. Page 3 1. Term and year you expect to enter TCC : please choose the semester you are planning to enroll. If not listed, please select the most current term. 2. Where it states Campus you plan to attend, please select TCC Connect. 3. Where it states, On what basis are you seeking admission to TCC, please select Dual Credit. (Disregard directions to complete additional application required for Dual Credit) 4. High School information is required, please select your correct school, if it is not listed, please choose the box I cannot find my school in the list above, or I attend outside of Texas, or I have a different situation. Please enter High School information and graduation date. 5. Where it states, Are you applying under the College Access Program, please select No. 6. Under Texas Success Initiative (TSI), please select any test you have taken. 7. Under TSI Exemptions, please leave blank. When finished click Next. Page 4 1. Please answer all residency questions. 2. Please Note-When asked Do you file your own federal income tax as an independent tax payer, for the majority of you, the answer will be No. 9

10 3. Are you claimed as a dependent? Yes (Your parents and/or guardian will most likely claim you as a dependent). 4. Fill out the dependent student information. When finished click, Next. Page 5 1. Please choose Yes or No, if you agree to allow the release of your information into the directory. 2. Check the box stating All information contained in this application is honestly presented. When completely finished, review your information and click SUBMIT. Transcripts Each student must submit an official transcript to TCC for review. Once a student submits their enrollment packet, the campus CCRS will print official transcripts and submit to TCC. Exception: If students do not designate their intention to take courses on the TCC campus prior to April 1, 2016, the campus CCRS will not print and submit student transcripts to TCC. After April 1 st, students who are taking dual credit classes on their own time at TCC will have to submit transcripts through Parchment ($3.50 charge). Parchment information is located on each campus s counseling department website. Students can always get assistance with Parchment at lunch in the College & Career Center. Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Assessment The TSI Assessment To be eligible to participate in dual credit, students are required to meet the admissions criteria of Tarrant County College (TCC), which includes completion of the entire TSI Assessment (reading, writing, & math). Below you find information pertaining to this assessment and how this assessment is used by TCC. All incoming college students in Texas are required to take the TSI Assessment to determine their readiness for college level work. Based on how a student performs on the TSI, they may either be enrolled in a college level course or be placed in the appropriate developmental course to improve their skills and prepare them for success in the college level course. Example Scenario o A student receives a score of 351 or higher on the Reading section of the TSI. The student can then enroll in a college level course for college credit, for example, US History (HIST 1301). -oro A student does not receive a minimum score of 351 on the Reading section of the TSI. The student will not be able to enroll in US History (HIST 1301). 10

SAT Reading + Math score of 1070: 500 in Reading to be exempt in reading and writing, and a 500 on Math to be exempt in math ACT Reading + Math score of 23: 19 in Reading to be exempt in reading and writing, and a 19 on Math to be exempt in math Students will need to submit a copy of scores with the enrollment packet. For TCC to accept SAT or ACT scores as an exemption, students must officially send their scores to TCC through the College Board or ACT website. Scores must be sent by April 1, 2016 in order to reach TCC by the due date. Student Who Have Already Taken the TSI If you have taken and passed the TSI at your home campus, the campus CCRS will verify scores and no further action is needed by the student. Students can find out their TSI scores by going to your campus College and Career Center during their lunch period. 11

12 TSI Assessment Locations Testing on Home Campus EMS-ISD allows students to take the TSI assessment once on their home campus. Juniors took the TSI in October 2015, unless they were taking the PSAT. Students that have submitted a complete dual credit enrollment packet, and need to take the TSI for the first time will be tested the week of March 7-11, 2016 on the home campus. Testing on the TCC Campus If you need to take the TSI and miss the campus testing date, or need to re-take a portion of the TSI, you will need to do so at the TCC NW Campus Testing Center. After successfully completing the assessment, bring a copy of your scores to the campus CCRS for your dual credit file. Cost: Free 1 st test at TCC/Re-takes at TCC $11 **Students must have applied at TCC and have a TCC ID number to test. On testing day bring a government issued photo ID or EMS school ID to the testing center, and identify yourself as an EMS-ISD dual credit student. If you took the TSI on the home campus, and just need to re-take a portion of the test, TCC will allow you to take only that section. You must see the campus CCRS to receive a printout of your scores and take that printout to the TCC testing center when you test. TCC NW Campus Testing Center- Building: WCTS Room: 1132 Phone: TCC NW Campus Testing Center- Hours: Mon-Thur 8am-7pm - Friday 8am-5pm TCC NW Campus Testing Center- Saturday Testing Dates: 1/30, 3/5 & 3/26 9am-1pm PRIOR TO TCC: Students must view a Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA). Students are able to view this presentation by logging in to their TCC Webadvisor account. Selecting Class Sections Dual Credit Classes at EMS-ISD (Includes Firefighter and Aircraft Technology) Student will select the class and section they want on the Student Information Page located in the dual credit enrollment packet. Dual Credit Classes taken on your own time at TCC The week before TCC registration begins each semester, students will receive needed documents for registration from their campus CCRS. Students will need to have reviewed course offerings and have selected a course section when they come to receive their documents. Selected courses must be outside the school day. Instructions for Viewing TCC Course Offerings (For Classes on the TCC Campus) 1. Go to 2. Click the WebAdvisor tab. 3. Click Click here to see our current class offerings. 4. Select View courses for 2016SU-Summer 2016 or Fall Choose your subject. 6. Select the correct course from the subject list. Click on the name of the course to view the course offerings. 7. A screen will appear that shows all TCC courses offered for the term. Please note that this list provides information about course dates, times, instructors, and method of instruction (online, etc.) You can filter your search by campus if you wish. 8. You will need to provide the section number of the course to your campus CCRS for approval (class verified and form signed by a campus official), the early enrollment form will be returned to you. You will then take the form to TCC to register for classes on that campus. 12

13 The section number includes the entire number shown ( ). This number designates the days of the week and times that the class will be held. Based on that information the course will be approved or denied by the campus official. Early Enrollment & Residency Form The Early Enrollment and Residency From will need to be complete and turned in with the Dual Credit Enrollment Packet. Dual Credit Classes taken on your own time at TCC 1. Student must follow the instructions under the Selecting Class Sections portion of this handbook to select their desired course section, and then turn in the Early Enrollment/Residency Form in to the campus CCRS. 2. Once the course is approved, the Early Enrollment/Residency Form will be returned to the student with instructions on how to enroll at the Registrar s office on the TCC campus. Meningitis Vaccination A student taking any course on a TCC must submit records of current Meningitis vaccination. Dual Credit Classes at EMS-ISD Students will submit Meningitis records to CCRS for the following classes: Advanced Aircraft Technology I Advanced Aircraft Technology II Business Information Management II Fire Fighter I Fire Fighter II 13

14 Dual Credit Classes taken on your own time at TCC At least one of the following must be faxed, mailed or submitted to the TCC Registrar's Office; or may be submitted via WebAdvisor: 1. Certification from a physician or clinic that the student has been vaccinated during the five-year period immediately preceding and at least 10 days prior to the first day of class. 2. An immunization record from a state or local health authority or an official record received from school officials (must be within 5 yrs). 3. A completed, signed and dated copy of TCC's Bacterial Meningitis Vaccination Verification Form. Enrollment Dual Credit Classes at EMS-ISD (Includes Firefighter & Aircraft Technology) Once the student completes the dual credit enrollment packet and all required steps of the enrollment process, the campus CCRS will handle the registration process for students taking a course on an EMS-ISD campus (including Firefighter & Aircraft Technology). Student course requests and the number of students who complete the entire dual credit process will determine if a course can be held. Course enrollment will occur on a first come, first serve basis. TCC requires that 15 students request a class, complete all enrollment procedures, and pay for the course before it can be held. Courses could be cancelled at the last minute if students do not follow through with payment (please see the Timeline section of this handbook for important deadlines). Dates have been established for the campus CCRS to post course rosters to help keep students informed of course offerings, as well as any changes that may occur. Payment completes registration. Once payment has been verified by the campus CCRS, a student s schedule at the home campus will be adjusted. Please check with your campus CCRS and check your through the duration of the enrollment process in order to stay up to date with current information and deadlines. *Course Changes After the Deadline-If a student needs to make a change in their registration after the deadline has passed, students must the campus CCRS. Please understand that changes can only be granted if there is space available in the new requested course. Dual Credit Classes taken on your own time at TCC Once the student completes the dual credit enrollment packet and all required steps of the enrollment process, they will submit to the campus CCRS. The week preceding the start of TCC registration for each semester, the CCRS will return needed documents and information to students. Students must complete registration for a course on the TCC campus. Students will need to bring in desired section #s when receiving their documents back for approval from CCRS. The campus CCRS is not responsible for registering students for courses taken on a TCC campus (excludes Firefighter and Aircraft Technology). Students will be responsible for registering for their course at the TCC Registrar s Office. The following items are needed to register for a course: o Transcripts: Campus CCRS prints and submits all transcripts to TCC prior to 4/1/15 After this date, students must submit their transcripts to TCC via Parchment o TSI Testing: Campus CCRS submits test scores to TCC for students that test on the home campus prior to 4/1/15-After this date, students must bring a copy of their TSI score report to the TCC NW Testing Center for input into the TCC system. Students may need to re-test or test on the TCC campus if needed to meet TSI requirements. 14

15 o Early Enrollment/Residency Form: See instructions located in the Selecting a Class Sections and Early Enrollment & Residency Form portion of this handbook. o Meningitis Vaccination Records: See information located in the Meningitis Vaccination section of this handbook. o Payments: Payment will be due by midnight on the day you register for your class at TCC. All payments are made through TCC. To have your schedule adjusted on the home campus, you must submit a confirmation of payment prior to the start of the course, and an official TCC transcript with your course grade at the end of your course to your campus CCRS. Payments Dual Credit Classes at EMS-ISD Payments are made to TCC once students have been registered in classes. Usually payments can be made beginning in mid-july for fall and mid-december for spring. Check the Timeline section of this handbook for payment deadlines. Payment in TCC 1. Go to the Business Services office on any TCC campus to make a payment in person. 2. Financial Aid Students may be eligible to receive financial aid for dual credit courses. Students are not eligible for federal financial aid because they are not high school graduates. In order to assist students, TCC has developed a dual credit grant that can be awarded to qualifying students. This assistance could cover tuition and books for desired courses. FUNDS ARE AWARDED ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THESE STEPS EARLY IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE FINANCIAL AID. Dual Credit Classes at EMS-ISD 1. TCC will communicate with you via your TCC account and Webadvisor. Please check these two systems regularly. WebAdvisor This program allows students to conduct TCC business. Students will be able to make payments for courses, view and print their class schedule, view and print their unofficial transcript, print their fee statement, check their grades, request your official transcript, etc. How to Login to WebAdvisor Students can login to WebAdvisor 24 hours after being admitted to the College. User Name 1. Click on WebAdvisor User Name/Password Help located under Log In Links. 2. Click on What's my user name? 3. Enter your Last Name and either your Social Security Number or Colleague ID. 4. Click Submit. Password First time user - the default password is the last six digits of your social security number. Returning users - who do not remember their password can use their password hint or reset their password. 1. Go to WebAdvisor. 2. Click on WebAdvisor User Name/Password Help located under Log In Links. 3. Click on What's my Password Hint?. 4. Enter your User Name, click Submit. If your password hint does not help, proceed to Password Menu located in the upper right hand corner of the screen. 1. Click on Change Password (I do NOT know my password). 2. Enter your User Name, click Submit. If you have set up your password security questions, you can proceed to answer the questions and set up a new password and password hint. If you have not set up your password security questions or cannot remember the answers to your security questions, you must call TCCD (8223) to request a password reset. Password Security Questions As an added level of security, students must set up three security questions and answers. The student will be prompted to set these up during their initial login. If you know your user name and password, these can be updated at any time on WebAdvisor. 1. Select WebAdvisor User Name/Password Help. 2. Select I want to change my security questions. 16

17 Create a new password After successfully setting up your password security questions for the first time, you will need to change your password and set up a password hint. 1. Go to WebAdvisor User Name/Password Help. 2. Select Change my current or temporary password. You will receive an confirmation regarding your password change. Contact If you cannot log onto WebAdvisor, please contact the help desk. Information Center TCCD (8223) How to pay on WebAdvisor 1. Click the Pay Now icon from the student menu page. 2. Select, Pay Undergraduate Tuition/Fees in Full (No Payment Plan), if not designating a payment plan OR select, CREATE a new FACTS payment plan through ecashier. Access Your Financial Information 1. Log in to WebAdvisor 2. Select Students 3. Select Payment Options under Financial Information Please note that your registration is not complete until payment is made. You may also pay in person at any Tarrant County College Business Services Office. MyTCC This program uses the same login information as Webadvisor, however this system is used more for communication between students and their professor during the course. TCC also can be accessed from this site. TCC Can be accessed through MyTCC. Please check your regularly. This is the only form of communication between students and TCC. Textbook Information Students will be responsible for purchasing textbooks for their courses. Contact information is listed below for TCC. You can order the books online through the TCC Bookstore website. Cost varies. The campus CCRS will post book information on their websites when it becomes available. Please check with your instructor on the first day of class to verify you purchased the correct text. Some courses may use the same text book for both semesters (ENGL 1301/1302 and HIST 1301/1302). Student Center TCC NW Campus Transportation EMS-ISD does NOT provide transportation for students enrolled in dual credit classes. If you are taking a course at the HCTC, you must complete an EMS Transportation Agreement and turn in the form and a copy of your insurance to the front office at the HCTC on the first day your class meets (forms will be distributed at the beginning of the school year). You will receive a parking sticker after the form and insurance information have been turned in. You will not be able to leave the home campus parking lot without the HCTC parking sticker on your car. 17

18 Attendance Regular and punctual class attendance is expected at Tarrant County College. Student absences will be recorded from the first day the class meets. In case of absence, it is the student's responsibility to contact the instructor. Students who stop attending class for any reason should contact the instructor and the campus CCRS to officially withdraw from the class. Failure to officially withdraw may result in a failing grade for the course. Class attendance and participation are essential to student success. Effective with the Spring 2012 term, the following attendance guidelines will apply: A student in an on-campus course missing a cumulative of 15 percent of the class meetings and not keeping up with the course assignments may be dropped at the discretion of the instructor. (source TCC) Special Services Students are eligible to apply for services through the TCC Disability Support office. In order for students to receive any accommodations or assistance, they must work with this office at TCC. Disability Support Office- TCC NW Campus WCTS Building, Rm 1124 F Phone: Calendar Dual credit classes follow the TCC calendar. Semesters usually start and finish at different times than the semesters at EMS-ISD. When do I need to be on campus? When dual credit classes begin, students will need to report to their dual credit class at the designated time and location. If your class is not scheduled to meet that day, you will not be in that class. (Example: If you have a 1 st or 8 th period dual credit class, you will have late arrival or early release on the days your class is not scheduled to meet.) The classroom where your class meets will be locked on days when class is not in session. What do I do if I ride the bus to school, or have transportation problems and will have to be on campus when my dual credit class is not meeting? If students have to be on campus when their class is not in session, they will need to study quietly in the cafeteria. Students may go to the library, but this is only to use their resources to study. The library is only an option if there is room available. Students must follow library rules and procedures. Students will not be allowed into the classroom where their dual credit class meets if it is an off class day. Students will not go to the HCTC on days their class is not meeting. What do I do in inclement weather? In the case of bad weather, students need to monitor and follow EMS-ISD delay and closures. Grade Reporting TCC professors are responsible for grading. The grading policies for a dual credit classes are determined by TCC. Professors will not communicate with parents regarding course progress. Students will not receive any grade on their report card in the duration of their dual credit class (no progress report grades or six week grades will be available in Skyward). Students will need to check their grades via their MyTCC account. Grades should be updated throughout the semester. Students will be assigned a letter grade at the conclusion of their class (A, B, C, D, or F). 18

19 Grade Equivalencies & Weight The grade designated on a student s official TCC transcript is used to determine the grade posted on the student s high school transcript. Dual Credit courses are weighted courses. Five points will be added to the final numeric grade when calculating a student s academic GPA. To get high school credit for your dual credit course you must request an official transcript to be sent to your high school from TCC. Follow the instructions below. Online: 1. Login to WebAdvisor 2. Select Students 3. Select Request Official Transcript under Academic Links 4. Have your transcript be sent to your campus CCRS. In Person: 1. Go to the Registrar s Office at the TCC NW Campus and request a copy of your official transcript. 2. Bring your transcript to your campus CCRS. Words of Wisdom Take your class work seriously, but have fun learning! You are in a dual credit course, which means you are going to be learning in a new way. You are getting a head start to a college degree, enjoy! Communicate with your instructor. Approach your professors with questions. Let them help you learn. Building a rapport with this individual shows them your work ethic and that you are taking ownership of your learning. Attend class. As you know, being in class is an important key to being successful. Your professor will give you their expectation regarding attendance. The more you miss, the lower your grade! Pay attention to the syllabus. Your professor will work with you, but you must demonstrate responsibility as well. You must adhere to due dates, class meeting times, exam schedules, etc. Set reminders in your phones of important due dates or come up with a system that works for you to make sure you make the grade! Check your . Check the you provide on your dual credit enrollment packet to receive important updates from your campus CCRS. Check your TCC for important information directly from TCC. This is the number one form of communication used, you MUST check your to receive important information about deadlines. 19
