Orientation for Internationa Students PNU Internationa offers new internationa students an orientation session twice a year (in Mar. for Spring Semester, in Sept. for Fa Semester), providing usefu information on academic ife, student ife, campus ife and city ife to hep them get used to studying and iving in Busan. A new internationa students are advised to attend the orientation. Student ID Card PNU ID card is a proof that you are a PNU student and necessary to enter dormitories, student cafeterias, and ibraries, etc. (But, the finance function is not avaiabe for Internationa students.) 3 Ⅱ. VISA & Immigration 1. Issuing Visa If foreigners are to stay in Korea, they MUST obtain an appropriate visa necessary for each status of stay. It may take severa weeks to obtain or change a visa. Therefore, it is highy recommended directy contacting the` Korean embassy or consuate in your home country in advance for further information. 1) Types of Visa: Study Abroad (D-2) - Exchange Student : Exchange Student Study Abroad Visa (D-2-6) - Visiting Student : Short Term Study Abroad Visa (D-2-8) 2) Issuing D-2 Visa The Study Abroad D-2 visa shoud be obtained before the beginning of the semester (Mar. 2) at the Korean Consuate overseas. Pease read beow directions, and if you have further inquiries, emai to visa@pusan.ac.kr (When emaiing, pease incude name, student id number, and nationaity for accurate information) 1 Inquire about required documents to Korean Consuate 2 Visit a Korean Consuate and appy for the D-2 visa Required documents: passport, fee, certificate of admission, tubercuosis resut* * Tubercuosis Resut: Mandatory ony for students who are from Tubercuosis Risk Countries Tubercuosis Risk Countries: Bangadesh, Cambodia, China, East Timor, India, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Maaysia, Mongoia, Myanmar, Nepa, Pakistan, Russia, Sri Lanka, Thaiand, the Phiippines, Uzbekistan, Vietnam Required documents may differ according to each country s consuates; pease inquire to them for more information. Aien Registration after Arriva 1) Aien Registration Card (ARC) (Mandatory) If intending to stay more than 90 days after entry, foreigners MUST appy for aien registration at the oca immigrations office within 90 days after arriva. If you have entered Korea with D-2 Visa, and eave without registering as an aien, your D-2 visa wi become ineffective. Visa is a statement that you got permission to enter a country, so in order to keep staying here as a foreigner, you need to register and get AR number. If you depart without it, you wi need to issue visa again to return to Korea. How to appy: Choose either 1 or 2 beow 1 Visit Immigration office: Prepare required documents and appy individuay(you must make a reservation!) February and March are crowded at immigration so you must make a reservation! 4 2 Group Appication at ISC: ISC wi submit papers on behaf of students to the Busan Immigration Office after competion, notification wi be sent to the student s emai pick up aien registration card (ARC) at ISC. 5 Ⅲ. Housing Dormitory & Insurance PNU Dormitories provide on-campus housing for internationa students and researchers at PNU. Pease visit PNU Internationa homepage ( for important schedues and information on housing services concerning appication procedure. A residents of dormitory shoud possess insurance ( Mandatory!). 6 3. Insurance Course registration and Dorm admission is canceed for non-insurance hoders It is mandatory for A internationa students in case of various injuries or inesses. 8 1. Course Registration Pease note that during the period of course registration, it is not aways easy to access the system due to the heavy traffic caused by considerabe appicants. Therefore, it is highy recommended that students shoud take a note of a the codes of courses to sign up for in advance before trying onine course registration. Minimum & Maximum Credits per semester Undergraduate Graduate Minimum credits 12 3 Maximum credits Average major 1 course is equivaent to 3 credits. Undergraduates are not aowed to take Thesis Research in Graduate Courses. Every semester, students shoud browse courses in advance to sign up for and onine-appy for course registration on student support system. For undergraduate students who need to take graduate course, you can take up to 3 credits (course) each semester. For Graduate students, you can take up to 12 credits if you mix graduate course and undergraduate course. To appy you need to get professor s permission and visit department office and coege office in person to register it (During Course registration period or course add drop period). 9 2. Cass Withdrawa (W) Students may appy for up to two(2) courses withdrawas in a semester. However, the remaining course credits to be earned after cass withdrawa MUST be a minimum of 12 credits (for undergraduates). The fixed schedue of W wi be announced on PNU Internationa ater. 3. Notes Use the Internet exporer with Windows operating system. [Do not use Mac operating system or Chrome.] For credit transfer, pease consut the appropriate academic advisor at your home university in advance. Since many users try to access the system in Course registration period, you are requested to contact your PNU buddy in advance to hep register for courses. (Even though your PNU buddy hep cass registration, you are soey responsibe for your own cass registration.) If you compete ony one or two courses during course registration period, don t worry about it. You can aso register for courses during Course Drop/Add period. Even in Course Drop/Add period, if there is no capacity, you cannot register the course. Taking a course from other department is imited. If you wish to take it, you need to get an approva in advance from the department. Concerning this matter, you shoud ask a PNU buddy to hep you or emai the professor of the course, then ask the department assistant of the major to hep you register for it.
