2 Statements & Search Criteria Mission The purpose of the Association is to provide services to all alumni of the University of Virginia (the University), thereby assisting the University and its students, faculty, and administration in attaining the University's highest priority of achieving eminence as a center of higher learning. This assistance shall also be directed to the attainment of Thomas Jefferson's desire that the University educate students who will become leaders in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the nation. Background The University of Virginia Alumni Association was founded in The Association continuously works to build strong bonds between the University of Virginia and its alumni. Impact The University of Virginia Alumni Association seeks to create a strong and collaborative insitution wide alumni engagement program that will enhance the University's ablility to build and maintain ties with an increasingly diverse community of alumni. Current porgrams, such as reunions, student engagement, the University of Virginia Magazine, alumni legacy admissions, career counseling, and the University of Virginia Fund provide a myriad of opportunities for alumni to stay connected with the University. The Association facilitates services to over 211,000 alumni. Needs There are now approximately 200,000 living Alumni. More than half graduated from the University in 1991 or later, and the average age is % of Alumni live outside of Virginia, including 3% living internationally, with the largest concentration in New York, Maryland, California, North Carolina and Florida. University graduates feel overwhelmingly positive about their experience in Charlottesville, and the continuing challenge is to translate this into actively engaged Alumni. 4 Programs Programs Alumni Association Programs Description Reunions, Homecomings, and Class Council support: the association sponsors and hosts class activities and events for the benefit of the University and its students and alumni. Grants, endowments and scholarships: the association sponsors awards to faculty, administers scholarships, disburses gifts (raised and received), and allocates funds to U.Va. and university-related organizations, including the Jefferson Scholars Foundation. Membership program: members receive benefits and discounts. Alumni Outreach: the association provides services to alumni such as the admission liaison program, career services, and alumni interest groups. Communications: the association publishes and circulates the U.Va. Magazine to University of Virginia alumni, students, parents, faculty, and friends. Budget $37,200, Long term Success Membership program - the association has approximately 5,300 annual and 40,000 lifetime members. 4
