To better prepare students for the demands of the 21st century economy and for post-secondary education, the Forsyth County Schoo District has provided this panning guide for use by students and their parents. Use this panning guide for the next four years, and use it to set career goas and pan for the word of future work. Go over the information in the guide together, and begin to have discussions concerning post high schoo pans and how you can reach the goas that you set. Bring this guide with you to each annua advisement appointment at your high schoo, and share with your advisor as you a work together to map out the next year's schedue of courses. OVERVIEW OF CAREER CLUSTERS/PATHWAYS Career Pathways are state-approved career enhancement programs defined as a coherent, articuated sequence of rigorous academic and career-reated courses starting in the ninth grade and eading to an associate degree, and/or an industry-recognized certificate or icensure, and/or a baccaaureate degree and beyond. Career, Technica, and Agricutura Education (CTAE) provides students with the opportunity to seect at east three sequenced courses in a career pathway. CTAE CONCENTRATOR: A concentrator is defined as a student who takes at east three CTAE courses in a specific program area during their high schoo career. PATHWAY COMPLETER: A pathway competer is a concentrator who competes the requirements for the Georgia Miestones Assessment System and aso competes the requirements for CTAE pathway concentrators. Seection of a pathway is based on sef-awareness and the investigation of occupations pus reated educationa eves aigned with the pathway. Most high-demand, high-skied, high-wage occupations in a concentrations sti require education beyond high schoo. Impementation of career pathways is a coaborative effort between the Forsyth County Schoo District, the Georgia Department of Education, the Technica Coege System of Georgia and the University System of Georgia. Georgia s 17 Career Custer/Pathways provide a structure for organizing and deivering quaity Career, Technica and Agricutura Education (CTAE) programs. Modeed after the Nationa Career Custers configuration utiized by most of the United States, Georgia s 17 Career Custer/Pathways Mode represents approximatey 96 career pathways to hep students navigate their way to greater success in coege and career. As an organizing too for curricuum design and instruction, the 17 Career Custers provide essentia knowedge and skis for the students career pathways. This mode functions as a: Usefu guide in deveoping programs of study that bridge secondary and postsecondary curricuum. Indicator of a range of career options for students' graduation pans of study. Method of aowing students to discover their interests and passions, empowering them to choose the educationa pathway that may ead to success in high schoo, coege and career. The 17 Career Custer/Pathways encompass both secondary and postsecondary education and wi strengthen and improve student transition from secondary to postsecondary education.

A student has competed an Advanced Academic Pathway in ELA, mathematics, science, or socia studies when the criteria described beow have been met. ADVANCED ACADEMIC PATHWAY IN ELA (ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS) CRITERIA: 1. Student graduated, thereby competing 4 required credits in ELA, AND 2. Student s course history in ELA (23 course codes) incudes at east one AP* Course Code ( ; ; ) or one IB* Course Code ( ; ; ; ; ) or one post secondary enroment code in 23 that fufis a core graduation requirement in ELA, AND 3. Student earned credits in two sequentia courses in one word anguage. ADVANCED ACADEMIC PATHWAY IN MATHEMATICS CRITERIA: 1. Student graduated, thereby competing 4 required credits in mathematics, AND 2. Student s course history in mathematics (27 course codes) incudes at east one AP* Course Code (27.072; ; ) or one IB* Course Code ( ; ; ; ) or one post secondary enroment code in 27 that fufis a core graduation requirement in Mathematics, AND CTAE Pathway CTAE Pathway A series of 3 or 4 specified courses in a CTAE approved pathway. Advanced Academic Pathway An advanced Academic Pathway may be foowed in any of these four content areas: ELA, mathematics, science or socia studies. A student has competed an Advanced Academic Pathway in ELA, mathematics, science, or socia studies when the criteria have been met. Fine Arts Pathway A Fine Arts Pathway may be foowed in any of these five areas of study: visua arts, theater, dance, music, or journaism. A student has competed a Fine Arts Pathway when three courses, from those identified in the five accompanying attachments (B-Visua Arts, C-Theater, D-Dance, E-Music, F- Journaism), have been successfuy competed in any one of the five areas. Word Language Pathway A Word Language Pathway may be foowed in any of the word anguage areas incuded in the state ist of approved courses. A student has competed a Word Language Pathway when the criteria have been met. 3. Student earned credits in two sequentia courses in one word anguage.

Ony those programs that have successfuy undergone rigorous reviews by eaders from business and industry are recognized with this distinction. 17 FORSYTH COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT Career Panner NON TRADITIONAL OCCUPATIONS AND RESOURCES 16 CAREER PLANNING RESOURCES NONTRADITIONAL OCCUPATIONS Nontraditiona careers are those occupations or fieds of work for which individuas from one gender comprise ess than 25% of the individuas empoyed. Students are encouraged to enro in courses that fit their career goas regardess of the gender make-up in the cassroom. Some exampes of nontraditiona careers are: Nursing for maes Drafting for femaes Cosmetoogy for maes Automotive for femaes Georgia Career Resource Network is a web site designed to assist counseors, instructors, and administrators with career-reated programs, initiatives, and information. GAfutures is an internet site for panning, paying, and appying for coege. Career Voyage is a nationa web-site for emerging industries and high demand occupations. The Occupationa Outook Handbook is a nationay recognized source of career information. It describes what workers do on the job, working conditions, the training and education needed, earnings, and expected job prospects. The handbook covers a wide range of occupations. MyPan.com is a career database which aows visitors to search, browse or query through over 900 different careers, read career profies, job descriptions, and educationa requirements, and expore career outooks.

In short, the student earns two credits for one CTAE course. 19 FORSYTH COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT Career Panner CTAE MOCK INTERVIEWS 18 MOCK INTERVIEWS SOUTH FORSYTH HIGH SCHOOL February 5-9, 2018 A CTAE students enroed in a third-year career pathway course or work-based earning during the schoo year wi participate in organizationa ethics and soft skis training. Through a sequence of activities during the schoo year, students wi spend time deveoping persona phiosophies around empoyabiity standards and the job-search process, with the Mock Interview Week as the cuminating activity at their high schoo. Over 1,500 students participated in this experience during the schoo year! Mock interviews wi expose each student to the interview portion of the job search process, as we as provide feedback on the deveopment of resumes and other career-reated documents. This event wi be community-driven, as vounteers from across the county spend time creating an experience that wi hep students earn what is expected in a job interview, whie aso providing constructive feedback on a aspects on the interview process. Some responsibiities of the coordinator incude: propery pacing students in the right course number, finding job or internship pacements for students, creating business partnerships, conducting empoyer/mentor training, visiting jobsites four times annuay, using CNet to record a data such as job visits and wage/hour reports, teaching empoyabiity skis, coordinating shadow day, being active in community groups such as the Chamber of Commerce. The Work-Based Learning (WBL) program is designed to provide experiences and activities that support a schoo to career transition. This simpy means that students are aowed to work off campus in the business community in order to earn more about a chosen career. Once a student has met a requirements for WBL, the WBL Coordinator wi determine the correct WBL pacement for the student. The students wi earn one unit of credit for each competed WBL course. After competing an appication, students are seected into the program based on their abiities, aptitudes, and career goas. In addition, students are required to answer essay questions and incude teacher and community member references. The seection committee wi use a written evidence and data gathered in the appication to make their seection. You wi be contacted by May 2018 if you are seected into the program. WHAT WILL I DO IN THE HONORS MENTORSHIP PROGRAM, AND HOW WILL I BE GRADED? First, you wi be paired with a mentor who is an expert and/or professiona in the fied of your choice.
