1 Living Learning Community Application Although each LLC is unique, benefits may include providing students with a mutual support network, evening events about interesting topics of specific interest to an academic discipline, group dinner meetings, and in-residence tutoring programs designed to increase retention and overall academic performance. Some other benefits for the students are: To have a network of friends. To improve grades. To meet people who have a common goal. To participate in social activities related to their academic major. To find help and encouragement informally through networking with peers. To transform a residential setting into an active, supportive and exciting place to live and learn. To maximize each student's academic program's effectiveness with in-hall faculty interaction. Section: I Living Learning Community Application Instructions 1. The Living Learning Community Application is available on the Housing website. 2. Applications for the Living Learning Community will be available online by, January 7, Living Learning Community offers will be extended via (using the address provided on the application). Students will be given a limited amount of time from the date of the offer to confirm their membership. All documents received will be confirmed by the department and advisor of the LLC. 4. In order to be eligible to receive a Living Learning Community offer, students must also have a housing application on file, paid the $150 non refundable housing fee and be admitted to the University. The Living Learning Community application is separate, and not a substitute for, the A & T housing application. 5. Students can only be extended membership to one living learning community. 6. Questions about the Living Learning Communities should be directed to the campus advisors listed below, or to the Housing and Residence Life Assignments Office at (336) All applications must be submitted to the campus advisor (of the LLC of interest) listed below. To apply to live in one of Housing and Residence Life Living Learning Communities, you will need to do the following: 1. Obtain admission to North Carolina A & T 2. Submit the Housing Application and pay the $150 non-refundable housing deposit 3. Review the Living Learning Program options (Section II) 4. Complete and submit the Living Learning Program Application (Section IV and V) prior to the specified deadline (April 15, 2016). 2 II. Living Learning Community Options *All applications must be turned into the advisor(s) listed on page 3. Please place an X next to the Living Learning Community to which you wish to apply. ICEE House- ICEE House-Vanstory Hall (Interdisciplinary Center for Early Career Exploration) The ICEE House Living Learning Community is designed to offer a specific, planned approach to integrate academics and career development. ICEE students will engage in workshops, career and leadership development conferences, special events with employers, career fairs, company visits, team building, resume development, mock interviews and explore internship/co-op opportunities (to name a few). ICEE is open to any freshman, transfer and/or first year student at N.C. A&T State University. There are no specific requirements to join except a desire to actively participate, live in Vanstory Hall the first year (only), and remain a part of the program until graduation. Project M.A.R.C.H-Barbee Hall (Male s Resolved to Change History) Project M.A.R.C.H Living Learning Community is housed in Barbee Hall and the focus of the LLC is to provide mentoring, advising and cultural development focused on enhancing the academic progress of first-year minority male and first generation students at North Carolina A & T State University, thus increasing their retention, persistence and graduation. The LLC is designed to help minority males overcome obstacles that could keep them from progressing to their sophomore year and obtaining a four-year degree. STEM- Pride Hall The Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Living Learning Community (LLC) is a community of undergraduate students enrolled in STEM majors. The goals of the STEM House are to assist students in achieving academic and personal success while fostering university and STEM retention and to support the expansion of the nation's STEM workforce by equipping graduates to assume positions in industry, the academy beyond. Programming offered during the academic year supports the development of scholars who are prepared to pursue STEM graduate education and enter the STEM workforce. Residents participate in a variety of academic, personal development and career exploration activities intended to build a sense of community and increase understanding of STEM disciplines. The STEM LLC is a dynamic, energetic community of scholars who exemplify academic and personal success and are actively engaged in the North Carolina A&T community. Teaching Fellows- Village, *Please contact the Teaching Fellows Office if interested in this LLC. A separate application process is required ( ) The NC A&T Teaching Fellows Program mission is to provide academically and culturally enriched preparation opportunities that extend well beyond the regular college experience. Students are challenged and motivated to become dynamic educators, as well as an asset to their community. This program pays specific attention to the student as an individual and works diligently to foster his or her personal growth and development. Honors/International, Village, *Please contact the Honors Program Office if interested in this LLC. A separate application process is required ( ) The Honors Community offers talented students a chance to step beyond the classroom and utilize the residential community to explore and experience the best that North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has to offer. The Honors Community is housed in the newly constructed Village. The program is designed to take advantage of classroom space in the residence hall to hold workshops, seminars, and programs designed to expose honors students to leadership development and support their need to do their best work. Moreover, Honors students are hired to serve as Resident Assistants in the Honors Community. The Resident Assistants supervise, manage, and program for the residents with the Honors Program. **Send application to: Please note, Honors has a separate application process and you should contact the Honors Program at: (336) TRIO. S.S.S. Barbee Hall (Student Support Services) * Please contact Student Support Services, if interested in this LLC. A separate application process is required ( ). The primary mission of the S.C.O.P.E LLC is to address the unique needs of academically capable individuals who are economically challenged, do not have a family history of college attendance and completion, have a physical, mental, or learning disability, and possess the aptitude to advance academically, personally, and professionally by offering them high-quality programming and services while maintaining a strong commitment to their success in postsecondary education. F.I.T ( Suites) The purpose of the F.I.T. Living Learning Community (LLC) is to provide a structured academic, social, and professional experience for first and second year Sport Science and Fitness Management (SSFM) students as a means for them to examine exercise science and/or related disciplines leadership models, develop a practical understanding of sport organizational administrative functioning, and to participate in collaboratively planned leisure activities. Technology and Innovation Suites E The Technology and Innovation LLC is designed for incoming 2012 fall first-year freshmen who have been admitted as Technology majors. The mission of the T&I Living Learning Community is to assist students in achieving success in their coursework and in exploring how technology impacts our global society. The program will offer social events, study groups, academic advising, and exposure to undergraduate research activities including attendance to local research conferences, campus lab tours, and career exploration. Students will be encouraged to attend special lectures, academic enrichment workshops and seminars on campus. Students are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. SISTERS Haley Hall (Students Inspiring Success Through Education Reform and Service) is a retention focused female mentoring program within the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) designed to promote overall academic and social development in female students at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. This program will foster intellectual, personal, and professional growth through the development of positive relationships within the local and campus communities. SISTERS will create a deeper appreciation for excellence in education, service, and finer womanhood. Noble Place (Nursing LLC)- Suites-Students will develop a sense of leadership and community while learning to work in a team and make good life choices. I agree to allow housing to change my first hall preference to the appropriate residence hall location of my selected Living Learning Community. Residence Life has the right to move me to another room and/or residence hall if I fail to meet all of these expectations.
