1 EMT Registration Information/Packet PLEASE READ COMLETELY! Most questions you may have are covered here. Registration is OPEN for you when you have everything listed on the check off list included in this packet. You may go to Building 400 Room 4106 North Campus, Salisbury or the Navigation Station at either South Campus, Concord or North Campus, Salisbury or by calling to register. Students receive instruction in emergency-care procedures and operational aspect of the EMT's role and developing emergency care skills. Students will study the basic list of tasks and competencies as outlined by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medicine. Students successfully completing the course are eligible to take the State Certification Examination. Course Requirements, Prerequisites & Guidelines Class will be pre-registered and limited to a pre-determined number of students. determined by class location. Students will be required to sign a statement indicating they have received this document and were given the opportunity to ask questions for clarification. Student will maintain an 80% GPA throughout course. Student will be allowed to submit a written report to improve current module test grade to a minimum 80% one (1) time throughout course. Instructor will review GPA and other issues with student every seven (7) weeks utilizing Student Action Report. Instructor will submit copy, signed by instructor and student, to Director. Instructor will submit signed copy of Student Action Report to Director related to any special student counseling. Instructor will submit Student Action Report to Director on each student at end of course. Module tests will be generated by instructor utilizing applicable textbook test generator. will administer module tests. Time limits for module tests will be determined by Director. Instructor Final end of course test generated in Director s office utilizing applicable textbook test generator. Test administered by Director or his designee. Student will pass course by scoring a minimum grade of 80. Students that fail final end of course test will be allowed one (1) retest opportunity by testing different test generated by Director. * Students are required to submit a copy of their High School Diploma or Equivalent in order to obtain their EMT certification. * Students will be required to pay a $68.00 testing fee per attempt to register for the state test. * New requirements as of January 1, 2018
2 Common Questions: Q: How can I find out when there is an EMT class? A: You can find our EMT schedules at If we do not have an EMT currently scheduled, we can put you on a mailing/ list and notify you when RCCC has scheduled the next class. Q: Can I be enrolled in more than one class at RCCC? A: Yes, as long as you are not enrolled in another curriculum or continuing education class taught at RCCC on the very same day(s) and time(s). Q: How old do I have to be to enroll in an EMT Class? A: 17 or older. Q: Can I become an EMT at 16 years old? A: No, you can take the state OEMS test at 17 years old and you will receive your certification on your 18th birthday. Q: How much does the EMT class cost? A: EMT classes are 192 class hours and 36 clinical hours; based on the class schedule, classes usually run between 3 and 6 months Q: How many Classes can I miss? A: You may miss no more than 10% of the class. Q: Will I have to complete any clinical (hands-on) with an EMS Service? A: Yes, 36 hours with an EMS service. Q: Do I have to complete any clinical time at a hospital? A: No. Q: Do I need any equipment for this class? A: No, all equipment is provided for you to use during this class. Q: Do I have to buy a uniform to wear during clinical? A: You will be required to purchase a shirt ($20.00) and wear to each class. You can use navy blue or black pants, along with the shirt you will purchase from RCCC.
3 Q: Do I need my CPR certification before beginning this class? A: No, you will receive your CPR certification as part of this class. Q: When do I need to register? Where do I go to register? A: You will need to register before the class fills or the first night of class. You can register at the Navigation Station (building 100) on North Campus 1333 Jake Alexander Blvd. South, Salisbury or on South Campus (building 1000) 1531 Trinity Church Road, Concord or Building 400 Room 4106 on the North Campus, 1333 Jake Alexander Blvd. South, Salisbury or by phone at Q: Do I have to have proof of childhood vaccinations? A: No, not for EMT class. You must show proof of negative TB test within the last year from the start date of class. Q: Do I have to have a High School Diploma to become an EMT? A: Yes, you must have proof of completion of High School Diploma or Equivalent to become a certified EMT. Q: What do I need to register for EMT Class? A: A completed registration form, a signed Student Code of Conduct and Tuition. Q: What do I need the first night of class? A: Your books, pencil/pen and paper. Q: Is there a charge to take the State Test for EMT Certification? A: Yes, $68.00 per attempt will be charged upon registration for the test.
4 EMT- Clinical Ride Time Policies Each student is responsible for arriving at his or her designated station 15 minutes prior to the start of the clinical shift. If a student is riding from 0800 hours, he/she must be at the assigned station no later than 0745 hours. Each student is encouraged to be current on all vaccinations and have the hepatitis vaccine or have signed the declination form. Each student must complete the Rider Release Form prior to the assigned shift. Students UNDER the age of 18 must have parental consent with a signature to be able to complete clinical ride time. Each student is responsible for maintaining a high degree of professionalism and courtesy while riding with the crew, the hospital staff, and when encountering patients in the field. Each student is responsible for keeping up with their paperwork and obtaining the appropriate preceptor signatures Each student is responsible for submitting completed paperwork in a timely manner to the Program Coordinator/Lead Instructor. All paperwork must be submitted three weeks prior to planned testing date. Miscellaneous Information EMS Student Shirt You may obtain an EMS Student shirt/sweatshirt from the Emergency Service Department located in building 400. The price of the shirt is $20.00 and the Student Quarter Zip Sweatshirt $ The shirt is required; the sweatshirt is optional. 5 STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT Students Shall: Abide by all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing the college. Demonstrate common courtesy and respect for faculty members, administrative staff, other students and guests of the college. Attend all class meetings unless excused by the instructor. Arrive at class on time and prepared for the day s lecture. Students Shall Not: Possess, consume, distribute or be under the influence of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs. Use, possess or transport any weapons. Behave in a loud or boisterous manner so as to interrupt or interfere with ongoing classes and/or the academic learning environment. Damage, destroy or attempt to damage or destroy the property of the college or the property of someone else. Endanger or threaten to endanger the personal safety of anyone. Intentionally causing or attempting to cause injury or causing emotional stress is included within the meaning of this provision. Behave in an offensive manner toward anyone, to include the public use of vulgar, profane and/or obscene language. Dress inappropriate, offensive or unprofessional manner. Steal or borrow without permission the possessions(s) of anyone. Lie to anyone concerning college related matters. Forge, alter or otherwise misuse any college document or record. Cheat on an examination, homework, or other assignment, collaborate without permission in work to be presented in class, plagiarize, or knowingly assist another student in any of the above prohibited activities. Behave in an insubordinate manner inappropriate for the academic environment, to include student disrespect and contempt for college officials. This prohibition includes failure to comply with the reasonable requests of teachers in pursuit of class learning objectives and the maintenance of good order and discipline. Students may not bring their children to class or leave their children unattended while on campus. CERTIFICATION I have read and thoroughly understand the above expectations and prohibitions and will abide by them at all times while a student at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
