1 TEMPLE UNIVERSITY GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENT OPTIONS 1. Students who earn an A.A. or A.S. degree from CCP 1 Gen Ed to Gen Ed All of Temple s General Education requirement categories are satisfied by virtue of the earned associate degree except for two writing intensive courses to be completed at Temple, and for general education courses required for the student s intended major. See transfer guide for intended major if available and/or consult a CCP counselor or Temple contact person. Also: Take advantage of Dual Admissions, an agreement that guarantees admission and awards scholarships to qualified students. Get information from the Career and Transfer Center bulletin board or from Educational Support Services in W1-1. Talk with a counselor or academic advisor. 1 Students must have entered CCP Fall 1996 or after to be eligible for Core-to-Core. Students who entered before Fall 1996 qualify for 45+Core. 2. Students who earn 45 or more transferable credits (from CCP and/or any other institution) and who do not earn an A.A. or A.S. 45+ Gen Ed The General Education requirement is reduced. Students are still responsible for the requirements for the student s intended major. Guidelines for 45 + Gen Ed are: Race and Diversity: 1 course Mosaic: 1 course from HUM 101 or 102 or 2 courses from either List A or List B on the Intellectual Heritage sheet of the core requirements. Courses from List A or B on attached Mosaic guide must be from two different disciplines. Quantitative Literacy: 1 course, although many majors require 2 courses. Science & Technology: 1 lab science. Science, engineering and education majors require at least 2 sciences. Human Behavior Arts US Society: Complete 1 course from two of the three areas. Analytic Reading and Writing: 1 course World Society: complete one course in world society. Many students are also required to complete foreign language requirements. See general education guide under World Society. Writing intensive courses: two courses to be completed at Temple 3. Students who earn less than 45 transferable credits. The entire general education requirement is required to earn a degree from Temple. Students may satisfy general education requirements at CCP or at Temple. Consult general education requirement guide and guideline for specific major if available. Consult with a CCP counselor and/or Temple contact person.

BUS, ENGRG, EDUC, HEALTH PROFESSIONS MAJORS HAVE FEW ELECTIVES. The general education categories are very similar to the prior core categories. There are few changes from how courses satisfy core to how courses will satisfy general education. A course specific to the subject area of a student s major cannot be used to satisfy general education. There are exceptions to this rule for the quantitative literacy and science requirements for students who major in the traditional sciences (e.g., biology, chemistry, biochemistry). Also, under general education, one course cannot be used to satisfy more than one requirement, except in the case of the Mosaic requirement (see section on Mosaic requirement). Temple and CCP have signed a General Ed to General Ed Agreement. If you entered CCP Fall 1996 or after and earn an AA or AS associate degree, you qualify for this agreement. See also information on dual admission on the transfer agreement web site at It is possible for a student to be eligible for dual admission without being eligible for core-to-core and vice versa. Discuss with a CCP counselor. Students not eligible for Gen Ed to Gen Ed may be eligible for the 45 + Gen Ed policy. Refer to the core/general education options guide for information on 45 + Core. Pharmacy students must satisfy the entire core/general education in any case. Bachelor of Arts see below for explanation of options School of Environmental Design: 3 credits, Boyer College of Music and Dance: 3 credits School of Tourism and Hospitality Management: 3 credits Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience, College of Liberal Arts: 3 credits Students who intend to earn a BA in the College of Science, a BA in Tyler School of Art, a BA in Communication Sciences in the College of Health Professions or a BA degree in the College of Liberal Arts satisfy a foreign language requirement and world society in one of the following ways: 1. Complete two courses in world society and the second semester of a foreign language, 2. Complete one course in world society and the first intermediate level (third semester) of foreign language, 3. Complete one course in world society, at least the second semester of a foreign language, and study abroad in a program approved by the university, or 4. Complete HUM 150 at CCP and the second semester of a foreign language International Business majors need to complete foreign language through the intermediate level (fourth semester) and complete one course in world society Students whose native language is not English or students who are proficient in reading and writing another language may satisfy the foreign language requirement through a competency test administered after transfer to Temple or by evidence of a high school diploma earned at an institution at which English was not the primary language Writing Intensive Requirement Students must complete two writing intensive courses after transfer to the university. 4 Mosaic Requirement of General Education Curriculum Students may fulfill Intellectual Heritage/Mosaic requirements by taking two courses from List A below and one course from List B; or two courses from List B and one from List A; Each course should be from a different area. Another way is by taking the courses at CCP entitled Humanities 101 and Humanities 102. If a student has already taken two courses from List A, may complete requirement with Humanities 102; if a student has taken two courses from List B, may take Humanities 101. If a student has already taken one course from each list, the student should select a course from one of the lists, each of the courses being in a different area.
