2 This guide has been produced to provide you with an introduction to the residential provision at Moulton College. The College provides a range of residential accommodation for students who are required to attend outside the normal working day and at weekends, or who are unable to travel to the College on a daily basis. The accommodation provided for students under the age of 18 years is subject to periodic inspection by OfSTED and was judged to be Outstanding in the last inspection undertaken in March We aim to provide you with a safe and supportive residential environment which will ensure you have every opportunity to develop academically. Additionally, we work hard to ensure you have a great time socially and receive an overall fantastic student experience. ROOM ALLOCATIONS We hope to be able to offer a room to all students who apply for accommodation. Students who accept the offer of a place on full-time courses at the College can apply for a place in the residences, indicating their preferred type of accommodation. The College cannot guarantee that this type of accommodation will be available and reserves the right to offer an alternative type when necessary. The College also reserves the right to reject an application. Requests for changes to accommodation arrangements may be considered and agreed, subject to the approval of the Student Welfare Manager and the availability of suitable rooms.

3 The Student Welfare Manager will carry out the first round of allocations in May and to ensure a fair process of allocation these initial allocations are made in accordance with published priority groups, rather than purely on a first come first served basis. Groups which are given priority include (in no particular order): Students under the age of 18 All full-time HE students Students whereby travel on a daily basis by public or Moulton College transport is not available or is difficult Students who are enrolled on courses which require regular attendance at early morning and weekend commercial experience on College enterprises International students Students with physical disabilities Students with a DIY Livery at the College After the initial round of allocations in May, further allocations are made on a first come, first served basis, subject to availability. Accommodation application forms can only be accepted with a 125 residency deposit. The deposit is refundable in full if we are unable to offer you a room. If you are allocated a room and you wish to withdraw your application before the start of the academic year we will refund 75 and retain 50 as an administration fee if we can fill the room with another applicant. If we are unable to fill the room which has been allocated to you with another applicant, then the deposit will not be refunded. Please note that all second and third year students must apply for accommodation each year and should not assume that they will automatically be allocated a room for each year of their course.

4 HALLS OF RESIDENCE The College has approximately 340 bed spaces in halls of residence which are all based on campus. All of the rooms are en-suite and we offer catered and self-catered options. 5 Holcot (self catering for over 18 students) 2015/16 /year* Shared Room 4,500 Single Room 4,800 Catering Package (breakfast and evening meal seven days a week) Non-returnable Residence Deposit (to be used as Caution Money upon taking up residence) 1, Caution Money Residents (refundable damages deposit) 150 * subject to approval ACCOMMODATION FOR UNDER 18s All students under the age of 18 are accommodated on a half-board basis at the Moulton Centre, which includes weekday breakfast and evening meals, and brunch and evening meals at weekends. Each residential block at the Moulton Centre has a common room/ kitchenette which is equipped with a fridge, kettle, iron and ironing board. Each corridor is single sex and offers both single and twin en-suite rooms. Students in catered accommodation are not permitted to stay in residence during College vacations but are welcome to stay during their study weeks.

6 ACCOMMODATION FOR OVER 18s In 2014 we opened our brand new accommodation at our Holcot Centre. This accommodation comprises 152 en-suite rooms and it will be offered to students over the age of 18 on a self-catered basis. Catered packages are available at an additional charge. Where possible, HE and FE students will be accommodated in separate blocks. All self-catered accommodation is mixed sex. Self-catered halls have kitchens which are equipped with a cooker, fridge/ freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, iron and ironing board. Students should bring their own crockery, cutlery and saucepans. The contract length for self-catered accommodation covers Christmas (excluding Christmas week) and Easter vacations and, as such, students in this type of accommodation are permitted to stay in residence during these times. ACCOMMODATION FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES The College has rooms available for students with disabilities. Students who wish to be accommodated in these adapted rooms should identify their support needs on their accommodation application form. Further information regarding the accommodation available for disabled students is available from the Student Welfare Team. Rooms are allocated subject to availability. ACCOMMODATION FOR COMMERCIAL EXPERIENCE Subject to availability, the College offers half-board rooms on a weekly basis for students who need to be resident during their period of commercial experience. Rooms are booked through the Registry with the weekly charge being required in

7 advance. These students enjoy the same privileges and responsibilities as other residents during their stay. ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR RESIDENTIAL STUDENTS At Moulton, we take our safeguarding responsibilities very seriously and looking after the welfare of our learners is our top priority. Living away from home for the first time can be a daunting experience, but as a resident at Moulton College there is always something to do or someone to talk to. The Student Welfare Manager co-ordinates the welfare support available to all residents through a team consisting of Residential Wardens, a Counsellor, a Chaplain, a College Police Officer and a team of Nurses. Our residents are supported by a team of Residential Wardens who are available out of office hours to interact with students and respond to emergencies and any incidents of anti-social behaviour (late night noise etc). The Warden Team has a particular responsibility towards the care of our residential students with an emphasis on students under the age of 18 years. Residents under the age of 18 require written approval from their parent or guardian if they wish to leave the campus overnight. Where this has been given the resident is required to sign out, giving details of their location and expected time of return. Unless a resident has permission to vacate the campus overnight, the latest time of return is 11pm. If a resident under the age of 18 does not return by their expected time, the Wardens will contact parents or guardians, informing them of the situation and keeping in touch until the student has been located. The Moulton College Social Team is a group of students who organise social

8 events which include trips, competitions and sporting activities. Students are encouraged to come forward with ideas for social events. The site has 24/7 security with CCTV coverage around the main accommodation areas. Once a student has been allocated a place in residence they will be sent further information relating to life in residence. RESIDENTIAL BURSARIES Funds are available to assist students with the cost of accommodation. Any further education student who has accepted a place on a full-time course may apply for a bursary. Bursaries are means tested and are based on disposable income, (bursaries are only available to FE students).
