3 Student Success & SAP Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) - Three Components: GPA,Completion Rate, & Maximum Time Frame Students must be meeting Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress to be eligible for initial financial aid consideration. This includes courses taken at ACC. Grade Point Average (GPA) Requirement: Students must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA on all hours attempted at ACC Maximum Time Frame: Students must complete their major within a 150% of the posted degree plan Completion Rate Requirement: Students must complete 67% of all hours attempted at ACC Academic Standards of Progress (ASP) - Two Components: GPA & Completion Rate This is an institutional measure and can lead to a student being placed on: - Academic Warning, Early Alert, Probation, or Suspension! Grade Point Average (GPA) Requirement: Students must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA on all hours attempted at ACC Completion Rate Requirement: Students must complete 50% of all hours attempted at ACC

Student Success Withdrawals Withdrawals can be initiated by the student via their Online Services account Students should consult the Registration Calendar for the current semester & session: -

4 Student Success Withdrawals Withdrawals can be initiated by the student via their Online Services account Students should consult the Registration Calendar for the current semester & session: - Add/Drop date(s) - Official Reporting Date(s) - Final Withdrawal Date(s) What is the difference between a Drop and a Withdrawal? An ECS student may DROP a course via their Online Services account and it will not be reflected on their ACC transcript if done so prior to the Official Reporting Date. An ECS student WITHDRAWs from a course (and a W is reflected on their ACC transcript) if the course is dropped after the Official Reporting Date for a given session within the semester. How do Drops and Withdrawals affect students? DROPs made after the Add/Drop period but before the Official Reporting Date count towards the students 12 course waiver limit and the 2 course semester limit. WITHDRAWALs made after the Official Reporting Date can impact both the students ACC transcript and high school credit, as well as their Course Completion Rate (SAP/ASP)

5 Completion Rate Examples Junior ECS Student taking 3 credit hour courses ECS Student 1 & 2 (Fall Semester) Student 1 takes two classes and makes two B s (100%). Student 2 take two classes and makes one B and withdraws W from the other (50%). What happens to Student 2 if this is their first and last semester of taking ECS classes? ECS Student 2 (Spring & Summer) Takes one class in spring and makes an A (66.67%). Takes another class in summer and makes a B (75%). Depending on whether or not student takes classes during senior year, he or she is eligible for initial financial aid consideration after high school.

6 Completion Rate Examples (Cont.) Senior ECS Student taking 3 credit hour courses ECS STUDENT 1 & 2 (FALL & SPRING) Student 1 makes one C and withdraws W from the other class during the fall and decides to take only one class in spring and makes a B (66.67%). Student 2 makes two B s during the fall and takes two more classes in the spring and makes one more B and withdraws W from the other (75%) Student 1 is not eligible for initial financial aid consideration after high school graduation according to SAP guidelines. STUDENT 1 (NOW TRAD) FALL Decides to take only two classes during fall semester after high school (perhaps is working hrs a week to help pay for full tuition costs). Although student is not eligible for financial aid for fall, all ACC students are able to take advantage of installment plans. At the end of initial semester, student makes an A and a B (80%), now he or she is eligible for financial aid consideration in the proceeding semester.

7 Student Success Incomplete Grades Incomplete (I) is a temporary grade holder and reserved for very rare/extreme cases Incomplete s are given at the discretion of the ACC faculty member Incomplete s allow the student to complete necessary coursework prior to the next semesters Withdrawal deadline After the subsequent semesters deadline, the (I) automatically converts into an (F) Student MUST contact the Instructor! Appeals Appeals are reserved for students who are directly (or indirectly) affected by some sort of major emergency, i.e. medical, passing of a family member, etc. Any ACC student (ECS included) may file an appeal. While a student is an ECS student please have him or her direct appeals to the ECS Director via their ECS Liaison. All communication must come via student s ACC mail account ***(I) s do NOT meet prerequisites***

8 Student Success Selecting Successful Students: Determine an eligible pool of students based on qualifying test scores, but we must look beyond this as the sole criteria! Attendance Grades Room in students schedule Extracurricular Activities Maturity Personal Accountability You know your students best!!!

9 College Course Expectations Ability to write college level research papers and or essay style examinations Accountability for missed assignments, most college classes do not have make up assignments Heavy reading expectations outside of the ACC class time ACC classes on high school campuses ARE college courses and are subject to the ACC course curriculum regardless of the age of enrolled students. In addition to attending a college class regularly, student will be expected to commit to 2 additional hours of study time to complete required reading and or assignments to be successful.
