Which route will be right for me? The most important factor in achieving success at Sixth Form is selecting the correct route at the start of Year 12. We want all students to leave our Sixth Form having been successful in their subjects and able to follow the university or employment path of their choice. Route A This route gives you opportunities to study A Level subjects and requires a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at mainly grades A* to B (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics. If you follow Route A you will be expected to take four subjects. Subjects set specific entry requirements to help ensure you are able to make good progress and achieve. All courses are offered subject to viability. A Level (Level 3) Assessed mainly by examination Art Biology Chemistry Computing Design Technology - Product Design Design Technology - Textiles Economics English Language and Literature English Literature French Further Mathematics General Studies Geography German History Mathematics Media Studies Photography Physical Education Physics Polish Psychology Religious Studies Sociology Spanish Urdu. Route A Route C Route C is the vocational only route and you would need a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at A* to C or equivalent, including English and Mathematics. This route is likely to be the best for you if have achieved mostly C grades at GCSE. This route offers access to a range of two year Level 3 vocational courses. All courses are offered subject to viability. Business (Single and Double courses available, worth 1 and 2 A Levels respectively) Dance Health and Social Care (Single and Double courses available) ICT Medical Sciences Music Performing Arts Sport (Single and Double courses available). There will be lots of opportunities to discuss your options when you meet with a member of the Sixth Form team to discuss your application. Route C Teachers encourage you to push yourself without over doing it. There is a friendly environment. Ella Barrow & Alicia Mornin Denys Salt Sixth Form Prospectus
Route B Route B allows you to mix A Level courses with vocational subjects. A minimum of 5 GCSE passes at A* to C or equivalent, including English and Mathematics is expected. BTEC and Cambridge Technical Qualifications (Level 3) Assessed by coursework and examination Business (Single and Double courses available, worth 1 and 2 A Levels respectively) Dance Performing Arts Health and Social Care (Single, 90 Credit and Double courses available) ICT Medical Sciences Music Sport (Single and Double courses available). If you follow this route you will be expected to follow four courses. All courses are offered subject to viability. Route B A Level (Level 3) Assessed mainly by examination Art Biology Chemistry Computing Design Technology - Product Design Design Technology - Textiles Economics English Literature English Language and Literature French Further Mathematics General Studies Geography German History Mathematics Media Studies Physical Education Photography Physics Psychology Religious Studies Sociology Spanish. Route D Route D offers you Level 2 programmes over one year. This route allows you to study GCSE Mathematics and/or English Language alongside BTEC First Award courses. We have offered BTEC Business, Health and Social Care and Sport but we always try to plan our courses around what students need and we know this can vary from year to year. Route D programmes run dependent on numbers. Typically you will have achieved GCSEs at mostly grade D. Route D I am enjoying Sixth Form as there is more independence and more time to complete work. Arran Hayes
Results Everyone involved with the Denys Salt Sixth Form is very proud that in 2015 we achieved our best ever results for both A Level and vocational subjects, surpassing our previous best results from the previous year. We achieved 50% of all our A Level grades at either an A*, A or B, with a 100% pass rate in all A Level subjects. Over half of the A Level subjects achieved in the top national 25% and every vocational subject achieved in the top 10% nationally with nearly two thirds of single award subjects securing the highest grade of a Distinction*. 100% of students complete their Sixth Form courses at A2 Level and 80% of students who apply to a Russell Group University are offered a place. Ian Morrel, Headteacher said: We are all delighted with these results, especially as they are higher than our best ever results which we achieved last year. It is fantastic that our students are succeeding at such high level and are able to progress to their chosen university course. We have had some amazing individual achievements but these top results are down to the dedication and commitment of staff, students, parents and carers working together. Emma, Year 12, achieved 8 A*, 3 A and 1 B at GCSE, Emma has been at Titus Salt School since Year 7. I achieved really good GCSE grades and also really enjoyed my time at Titus Salt School so staying on in the Sixth Form was a natural next step for me. The school has amazing staff who were there at every hurdle and as I grow and become more independent I know the staff will always be there if I need them. I also enjoy sport and school has great facilities and lots of extra-curricular sports clubs as well as many trips for specific courses. Francesca, Year 12, achieved 6 A*, 5 A and 1 B at GCSE. I chose the Sixth Form because I felt comfortable staying in school to carry on my studies, especially with all the support the staff gave me during my GCSE s. The Denys Salt Sixth Form also has a very good achievement rate at A Level and I know that with the same help and support from teachers and if I work hard, I will achieve the highest grades possible. Denys Salt Sixth Form Prospectus
Jordan, Year 13, achieved 3 A and 1 B at AS Level. Jordan joined Sixth Form in Year 12. I chose the Denys Salt Sixth Form due to the good reputation it had as well as the high results at A Level, especially in Maths, which was an area I wanted to study. My best experience has to be the people that I have met, students and teachers. I was of course thrilled with my AS results, it was hard work but worth it. My thanks go to teachers for the effort they put in to the lessons and after school revision classes throughout the year. Tommy, Year 13, achieved 4 A at AS Level. My best experience from Year 12 has to be my trip to Australia! My Science teachers were so impressed with a Physics essay I submitted, that they believed I could be selected for a three week prestigious scholarship at the Institute of Science in Sydney. My teachers encouraged me and gave me the confidence to apply and I was lucky enough to be only one of five students from the U.K. to be accepted. It was an amazing experience, a trip of a lifetime! I am applying to study Natural Sciences at St John s College, Cambridge University. Luke, Year 13 achieved 4 A at AS Level. My best experience has to be attending Durham University in the summer; I successfully gained a place on a Chemistry Camp and had a taster of university life that I really enjoyed! I am going to Durham to read Chemical Engineering, as on completion of the Summer School I was offered a conditional place to start in September. My hard work and determination paid off but I can t thank the teachers enough for their help and support along the way.
Joining Sixth Form If you decide the Denys Salt Sixth Form at Titus Salt School is for you, your first steps, if you are new to the school, should be to come along for a visit. If you are not able to attend our Sixth Form Open Evening contact school to make arrangements to visit on an alternative date. It is a good idea to submit your application early; before the Christmas holidays. You will be invited for an interview to discuss your subject choices in the light of your career aspirations and if you are successful you will receive an offer letter. You must then meet our entry requirements to take up your place in September. Titus Salt is a diverse school that celebrates multicultural beliefs and morals and it is all about respect.
