1 AGREEMENT FOR RESIDENT ADVISOR (RA) ACADEMIC YEAR The Resident Advisor (RA) agrees to accept employment at California State University, Sacramento for the academic year, subject to the terms and conditions of this employment agreement. RA move-in is Monday, August 11, 2014 and duties commence on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, and continue through Sunday, May 24, 2015, excluding the winter and spring campus closures. The Resident Advisor further agrees to live in the residence halls and take board in the residence halls Dining Commons as a condition of employment. Total compensation to a Resident Advisor for work performed is a single room and board for the academic year excluding campus closures. The Resident Advisor work schedule includes but is not limited to the following commitments: desk duty, staff meetings, building rounds, activities, projects, Resident Advisor Class/In-service, advising students, as well as on-call commitments such as being available to residents at varying intervals during the day and night. Expectations of the position are to be fulfilled by the Resident Advisors throughout the entire Housing complex. EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS FOR RESIDENT ADVISORS Employment is contingent upon the occupancy of the Residence Halls. Appointments and hall assignments are typically made for both semesters of the academic year. However, individuals may be reassigned at any time at the discretion of the Residence Life Coordinator and/or Associate Director. Additionally, individuals hired to fill a vacant position during an academic year will be employed through the end of the academic year in which they were hired. Resident Advisors may be placed on performance probation or their License Agreement may be canceled at any time for the following reasons: a) non-compliance with conditions contained in this Agreement and referenced documents; b) failure to support and abide by University and Housing and Residential Life policy; and, c) failure to meet University academic standards. ACADEMIC WORKLOAD AND CLASS SCHEDULING RAs are to discuss outside time commitments with their supervisor and maintain balance of their time. Academics are a primary priority for all Residential Life staff members. The RA position should come next. Any exceptions must be submitted in writing to Residence Life Coordinator and approved by Housing and Residential Life prior to registering for classes. Resident Advisors are to have Mondays from 3pm to 5pm available for staff meetings. 1st semester RAs are to also have Wednesdays from 3pm to 4pm available for RA class. Housing and Residential Life may require a Resident Advisor to reduce academic course load based on academic and/or RA job performance. 1 st and 2 nd Semester Resident Advisors * Must be enrolled for minimum of 9 and maximum of 16 units per semester. After 2nd Semester Resident Advisors * Must be enrolled for minimum of 9 and maximum of 18 units.

2 All Resident Advisors * Semester prior to registering for an internship or student teaching, the RA shall request approval in writing from the Associate Director. * Receive prior approval before registering for more than one night class from his/her RLC in consultation with the Associate Director. EVALUATION * Each RA will be evaluated in writing at least once a semester during the appointment period. All written evaluations will be part of the employee s permanent housing file. GRADE POINT AVERAGE * Housing and Residential Life requires an RA to have a 2.5 California State University, Sacramento/cumulative GPA. RA will be given one semester to improve his/her GPA. Failure to demonstrate academic improvement towards meeting the University and Housing and Residential Life requirements will result in termination. MEETINGS * Shall attend and participate in Monday staff meetings from 3 to 5 pm and one-on-one meetings as scheduled by the Residence Life Coordinator. RA CLASS/INSERVICE 1 st Semester RAs RA Class * New RAs will participate in a non-credit bearing RA class their first semester of employment on Wednesdays from 3pm to 4pm. Returning RAs RA In-Service * Returning RAs are required to attend and participate in professional development (In-Service) sessions. These sessions will be offered different days and times during the week to accommodate RA academic class schedules. All RAs * There are two mandatory In-Services held each semester for all staff to attend. COMMITTEES RAs may be asked to participate on a programming or other type of Housing and Residential Life committee. REAPPOINTMENT This agreement covers only the period stated. RA reappointment is based on performance, departmental needs, and the re-application process. RESIGNATION Should the staff member choose, they may resign by scheduling a meeting with their Residence Life Coordinator and submitting to them a typed letter of resignation that is signed and dated. Please note: resignation does not release a staff member from the terms and conditions of their housing contract.

3 PROGRAMMING Programming is designed to promote community development and student development through the offerings of social, recreational, and educational activities. RAs are expected to encourage all residents to become involved in individual floor/hall and all-complex programs. RAs will plan programs that are of interest and benefit to residents. RAs are also expected to assist others in their programming efforts. Resident Advisors are expected to fulfill the following programming requirements: * Plan programs per semester as established by Housing and Residential Life. * Follow the programming model as established by Housing and Residential Life. * Spend time on the floor to build a positive community. For clarification of programming expectations see your Residence Life Coordinator. FLOOR MEETINGS Floor meetings to be held based upon the assessment of the RA and Residence Life Coordinator. At minimum, floor meetings are to be held at the beginning and end of the semester. ADMINISTRATION Resident Advisors are responsible for the following: * Check both your Sac State phone and Sac State messages a minimum of twice a day. * Mail pickup and distribution. * Desk duty a minimum of 4 hours per week (paid). * Desk duties in absence of desk attendants. * Keys (loss of a key or keys will result in a financial charge and may result in job termination as an RA). * Assist residents when locked out of their rooms. * Carry and respond to duty cell phone (loss or damage of a cell phone will result in a financial charge). * Record keeping/report writing. * Various administrative duties (such as work orders, room inventories, etc.). * Room and suite checks. * Other duties as assigned by your supervisor. ON-CALL DUTY EXPECTATIONS A regular duty schedule which includes desk hours will be worked out by each staff team immediately following registration each semester. During the day (8am-6pm), RAs serve as part of an on-call rotation as determined by the department under the direction of the Associate Director. Night time duty will begin at 6pm and end at 8am. During night duty, RAs are not to leave their hall after 6pm except as approved by the RLC on duty. RAs are expected to assist with the hall and floor communities on non-duty days/nights as well. RAs: Shall notify Residence Life Coordinator on duty if they need to switch while on duty. Shall notify and have their Residence Life Coordinator's approval no later than 48 hours in advance when leaving for a weekend. Shall not be gone overnight (after 2:30am) unless given prior approval by their Residence Life Coordinator. Shall not be away from campus more than two (2) weekends a month. Shall be on duty as directed by your Residence Life Coordinator for the opening and closing of residence halls during the Fall and Spring semesters. Shall be present for the following events:

4 ACADEMIC YEAR RA JOB TIME LINE *Dates may be adjusted up to signing of employment contract Move In: Monday, August 11 Training: Tuesday, August 12 Thursday, August 28 Opening Day: Friday, August 29 Opening Weekend: Friday, August 29 Monday, September 1 Homecoming Weekend TBD Thanksgiving (Halls are open and a select number of RAs will be needed to work the holiday break) Winter Break Closure: Sunday, December 22, RAs are required to stay until released by RLC which may depend upon graduating seniors, international students, and late stay departures as well as general closing tasks being completed Spring Semester Return: Starting Monday, January 19th after 12pm Spring Training and Opening Day Prep: New RAs: Tuesday, January 20 - Thursday, January 22, Returning RAs: Wednesday, January 21 - Thursday, January 22, 2015 Opening Day: Friday, January 23 Opening Weekend: Friday, January 23 - Sunday, January 25 Spring Break Closure: Saturday, March 21 RAs are required to stay until released by RLC which may be the following day Spring Break Return: Campus Closure: Sunday, March 29 by noon Sunday, May 24 RAs are required to stay until released by RLC which may depend upon graduating seniors, international students, and late stay departures as well as general closing tasks being completed OUTSIDE EMPLOYMENT / EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Employment outside of the RA position must first be discussed with his/her RLC. Final approval rests with the Associate Director of Housing and Residential Life prior to committing to employment outside of the RA position. After the first semester of employment as an RA, an RA who has good evaluations, minimum 2.5 California State University, Sacramento/cumulative GPA, and a positive recommendation from the supervisor may be permitted to work twelve hours per week. RAs wishing to increase their work hours on campus must first discuss this with his/her RLC. Final approval is by the Associate Director for Housing and Residential Life. The RA must inform and discuss any anticipated commitment of extracurricular activities and leadership positions with their Residence Life Coordinator. RAs cannot hold executive board positions on RHA or ASI. Work and extracurricular schedules may not conflict with RA duties and responsibilities. A copy of weekly schedules should be provided to supervisor. ALCOHOL/SUBSTANCE ABUSE Title 5, California State University and Colleges. Division 5, Chapter 1, Subchapter 4, Article 2. Student Conduct. University s Student Conduct Code Expulsion, Suspension and Probation of Students.

5 Following procedures consonant with due process established pursuant to Section 41304, any student of a campus may be expelled, suspended, placed on probation or give a lesser sanction for one or more of the following causes which must be campus related: (h) On campus property, the sale or knowing possession of dangerous drugs, restricted dangerous drugs, or narcotics as those terms are used in California statutes, except when lawfully prescribed pursuant to medical or dental care, or when lawfully permitted for the purpose of research, instruction, or analysis. *Use and/or possession of an illegal drug are grounds for termination of RA Agreement. Resident Advisors 21 years of age or older May consume alcohol under conditions stated in the Residential Life University policy, however the following guidelines apply: * RAs may not consume alcohol with underage students. * RAs may not consume alcohol within a 12-hour period prior to duty nor in any case while on duty. * RAs may not be intoxicated while performing RA responsibilities. Failure to comply with Title 5, Campus Alcohol Policy, Residential Life policy, and terms in RA Agreement is grounds for termination of employment as a Resident Advisor. ACADEMIC YEAR CONFERENCES Throughout the academic year, RAs shall assist with university programs, guests, and conference groups. CONFIDENTIALITY Resident Advisors are in a position to gain a great deal of sensitive and personal information. It is expected that this information will be treated in a professional and confidential manner. Resident Advisors do not have privileged confidentiality. Therefore, any information about any subject that might affect the safety, security and well-being of a resident must be shared with the Residence Life Coordinator immediately. Confidentiality should not be promised by a RA to the residents, but should be passed UP to the supervisors, not OUT to the residents. Failure to maintain confidentiality can result in the RA being placed on probation or termination. MEDIA INFORMATION Resident Advisors are to direct all media inquiries or sighting to their supervisor and/or the Housing and Residential Life Office. Resident Advisors are not to be interviewed by the media unless given permission by Housing and Residential Life. Resident Advisors are to refrain from posting information/pictures (if the RAs are part of an online community; i.e. Facebook, Myspace, etc.), which violate departmental policies, values, and furthermore can be perceived to hinder their credibility in performing your RA responsibilities and reflect unfavorably on the department or University. OTHER Resident Advisors are not to transport residents in association with their job, unless given approval by the Office of Housing and Residential Life. Resident Advisors are not to key into rooms without the consent of an RLC.

6 To comply with all California State University, Sacramento and Housing and Residential Life rules and regulations as well as all state and federal laws. SUMMARY Shall accept and fulfill other duties and obligations as assigned by the Residence Life Coordinator. Resident Advisors must abide by campus and Residential Life policies; Title 5, Code of Student Conduct; and state and federal laws. My signature on this document signifies my acceptance and agreement of the terms and conditions of this RA Agreement. I further understand that this employment will not become final until a background (including a GPA and University conduct standing) check has been completed by the Office of Housing and Residential Life to their satisfaction. I further agree that I will discuss my work schedule and performance with my supervisor to communicate any other demands that would affect the outcome of my job expectations.
