Introduction to Wadham Sixth Form Our Sixth Form students are proud to be part of Wadham and through their enthusiasm and sense of fun they generate a positive atmosphere which permeates the whole school community and in which they feel safe and valued. Over many years Wadham Sixth Form has given generations of students the opportunity to gain the grades and skills needed to open up life-changing opportunities in Higher Education or the world of work. Students choose Wadham Sixth Form because, following on from their Lower School experience, they know that we can deliver on results, experiences and preparation for their future. Great students make great Sixth Forms and by working closely with students we engender a sense of ownership of the learning experience and the learning environment. Life in Wadham Sixth Form = challenge, opportunity and voice

Students are assigned to mixed Year 12 and 13 Tutor Groups for administrative purposes and for the weekly Sixth Form Matters tutorial. Students have a personal mentor and there is a timetabled mentoring session once in every two week cycle. The mentor is either the form tutor or another experienced member of staff. The mentor sessions focus on the progress made since the last meeting and puts plans in place for the following two weeks. Advice, guidance and support are given to ensure that each individual student remains on target and makes the necessary progress. Students and mentors are in regular contact via and can also meet outside of the scheduled times if the need arises.
Transport At Wadham we recognise that for students living outside Crewkerne, transport costs can be high. An allocation of 375 may be available towards this to students who apply through the Bursary Scheme. Details can be given by either KS5 Raising Standards Leader, The Business Manager or the Finance Office. If you have concerns about the cost of transport, please contact either Mrs Forsey or Mrs Taylor, Business Manager Bursary Scheme The Bursary Scheme enables the school to allocate funds directly to students who face financial circumstances that might prevent them from participating in post 16 education. Students will be given full details of the criteria and process for applications at the start of the academic year Applications can cover costs such as transport, trips and resources If you would like further details, please contact either Mrs Forsey or Mrs Taylor. Head Student Team
A Level and other Level 3 Courses Over 20 subjects to choose from. In Year 12 students study 4 subjects and normally reduce to 3 subjects in Year 13. The subject you choose to drop for Year 13 you will do an exam or other assessment to gain the relevant end of Year 12 qualification. Students have the opportunity to do the Extended Project this is an AS type qualification which develops research and presentation skills and gains extra points for university entrance. Class sizes don t get lost in the crowd Most subjects are taught to small classes - ensuring greater individual attention and personalised support.
Entry Criteria Five Grades at 9-4 including English Language and Maths is the general entry requirement. There may also be some subject specific requirements. Want to know more? 12 Wadham Sixth Form Opens Doors for You Summary of A Level Results (or equivalent) 2017 A* - E = 99% A* - C = 60% A* - B = 34.2% For several years 100% of our university applicants gained a place at their choice of university Ofsted said that we achieve above the national average The sixth form is good. Students make better overall progress than is the case nationally. Results in A level and other examinations are above the national average. Many students progress to higher education. Ofsted said that sixth form students make good progress Students in the sixth form achieve well. Many attain above average results, representing good progress from their starting point. For example, very high quality work was seen from students, most of whom had modest GCSE results, studying a sports science course. Ofsted said that teaching is good Teaching in the sixth form is good. Many classes are small, enabling the teacher to give much individual help. In a Year 13 mathematics class, where students target grades ranged from A* to E, the teacher challenged lower attaining students with difficult questions, and gave help with unfamiliar specialist terminology to a student developing his fluency in English. Ofsted said that the sixth form is well led The sixth form is well led and the curriculum meets the needs of the students who choose to stay and study at the school. As the sixth form is small, students are guided carefully to the provision that best meets their needs. Committed to helping you Our leavers have gone on to varied and exciting challenges. With their academic achievements and a positive sixth form reference, some have secured much sought after apprenticeships with prestigious companies. Some have taken a gap year visiting and working in destinations as far afield as China before taking up a teaching course later. Good exam results combined with many transferable skills allowed others to secure jobs that met their interests and aspirations.
SIXTH FORM - STUDENTS PERSPECTIVE So far I have really enjoyed sixth form and the things we have done because of it, such as the first aid training and talking about our higher education options. I have learnt a lot in the lessons I have had since the start of the year, such as the capacity of memory in my psychology lessons. I have signed up to be a numeracy ninja for the lower years who are struggling with maths and I am looking forward to helping people pass their GCSE s. I have also got involved with organising a teacher vs. student football match for Children in Need. I feel that sixth form has made me much more confident with my ability to achieve my targets in A-Level and it helps that the atmosphere around me with the teachers and fellow students have been positive because they all want me to achieve and do my best. Molly Daniel, Yr 12 Wadhams Sixth Form has been a very positive place for me to continue with my education, allowing me the freedoms and trust that you would receive in a college background, whilst maintaining the familiarity and structure to the day that I would not have received had I studied my A levels in another setting. The atmosphere within the common room is lively and welcoming, but settled within study periods to allow you to revise and work independently without interruption. The smaller class sizes allow you to have a more relaxed and understanding relationship with teachers, and a more tailored experience to what learning style works best for you and your class. The input of head student team allows us a chance to voice our opinions and ideas for events more openly alongside our peers, giving us an opportunity to have responsibility for our success outside of academia, and helps us to make a positive impact on our community. Overall, I am happy with my decision to study at Wadham Sixth Form as I feel it has allowed me to focus on my subjects and my future without disruption from over-crowded class sizes, lengthy bus rides and disorganised study spaces. Nokie Watkins, Yr 13
Sixth Form - Students perspective Unlike many busy colleges, Wadham Sixth takes the time to reconnect with its students and focus on their individual successes and attainment. One of the many opportunities offered to students is the HE + course, which a few of us were lucky to participate in. The course involved activities to prepare us for our next steps, such as subject taster sessions and interview techniques, and culminated in an overnight visit to Cambridge University, where we were able to explore the campus and surrounding area. The trip was a brilliant introduction to the higher education options available to us post-sixth Form. I think Wadham Sixth Form is an excellent, vibrant place to continue your learning into further education. It brings all the familiarities of the lower school together with the new-found freedom of being your own individual. The classes are better sized for your needs, with more interaction with teachers to create a more flexible learning experience. You also have the chance to interact with the lower years and create events that bring the school together and raise money for various charities. Taylor Young, Yr 13 Corey Edwards, Yr 13
