2 Welcome The Sixth Form at Reddam House Berkshire is an exciting place to be! Whether you have worked your way up through the school or are joining us for the first time, our Sixth Form will equip you with all the skills you need to obtain your preferred University place or set you on the right path to your chosen career. The Sixth Form is a time when pupils are allowed a greater degree of autonomy than previously and those who join our Sixth Form from elsewhere will find their new environment very welcoming. They feel at home very quickly and benefit from the supportive and personal nature of our school. Reddam House is the only school of its kind in the UK. Whether day pupils or boarders, our pupils enjoy a unique experience which will stand them in good stead for life. Our results are consistently outstanding and our new Sixth Form Centre is designed for quiet, independent study, while a lively leisure area provides facilities to make hot drinks and snacks, while chatting to friends. We believe all young adults should be able to benefit from a Reddam House education so offer a variety of sixth form scholarships, worth up to 30% of school fees. 3 An Opportunity to Shine At Reddam House, we appreciate and acknowledge that all students are different. In the Sixth Form, more than ever, they are able to display their individual skills and talents across a wide spectrum of opportunities. Our co-curricular programme provides more than 40 optional groups covering all aspects of music, art, culture, sport indeed, life! Volunteering and community activity play a large part in the life of our Sixth Formers, as does music and drama which reinforces their self-confidence and self-worth. This means they display a strong sense of maturity and perform outstandingly at interview, both in applications to university and in the workplace. Reddam House Sixth Formers are recognisable by their inter-personal skills and we expect all our leavers to be offered a place at a Russell Group University or equivalent. We encourage and facilitate work experience and, with advice and guidance from our widely travelled and experienced teaching staff, can help plan gap years. Our Sixth Formers are independent learners and are prepared to lead and take responsibility. They play a real part in helping to run parts of College life by organising activities for themselves and for others and act as mentors for pupils lower down the school. At all ages, the curriculum meets the needs of all pupils, including the more able and those with SEND and EAL. ISI JANUARY 2016

4 Curriculum and Teaching Pupils at Reddam House Berkshire will be expected to choose 3 A level subjects that they will study throughout the two years of sixth form. Some may choose to study 4 subjects, particularly strong mathematicians who want to study Further Maths. Most will augment their A levels with the Extended Project Qualification, now popular with universities. The EPQ is a self-motivated project, which can be a research-based, or creative project even organising an event. It carries with it the same UCAS points as the old AS level while encouraging independent thought and creativity. As our pupils do a great deal of independent study, we give them an hour long examination at the end of each week, called a cycle test, based on their subject choices, so we can continually evaluate their progress. These tests are also a means of identifying and rewarding those pupils who work hard and achieve consistently good results. The College offers a range of A level courses in all the core subjects primarily the facilitating subjects - those most commonly required or preferred by universities and which will give our pupils access to the broadest range of degree courses. As Reddam House is passionate about the expressive arts, we also offer Theatre Studies, Fine Art and Dance as A level options. ISI JANUARY 2016 Further Education Applying to university in early twenty first century Britain is a challenging experience. There are thousands of courses from which to choose at well over a hundred universities and that s just in the UK! If pupils think that they might like to study elsewhere in the EU, or the USA, or Australia or Canada as increasing numbers of young Britons are doing, the choices available are enormous. We make the most of the numerous benefits of belonging to an international schools group, with popular exchange programmes at our sister schools worldwide. Pupils need skilled, knowledgeable and experienced guidance to negotiate their way through the potential pathways open to them. At Reddam House Berkshire, our pupils are fortunate to have on hand tutors and senior leaders who are able to offer helpful and realistic advice. Pupils are given help with choosing their courses and with preparing their all-important personal statements. Their references are meticulously prepared by their tutors and the Head of Sixth Form who oversees the whole process, which is noted for its efficiency and success rate. Pupils receive careers guidance via several different routes. Tutors play a pivotal role in making pupils aware of university and career options, in one-to-one meetings. The Head of Sixth Form meets each pupil individually to discuss options and prepare for UCAS applications, while the Head of Careers organises university visits, careers talks and careers fairs and supports each and every pupil throughout these two most important years. Practice interviews are arranged for those applying to Oxbridge and pupils can sit the Thinking Skills assessment in school. We ensure pupils make informed decisions at every stage and encourage them to be ambitious in all their goals and aspirations.

6 Beyond the Classroom Academic excellence is one thing. However, the confidence to go forward in life and be able to work as part of a team, with enthusiasm and confidence, is equally important. As soon as they arrive in the Sixth Form, our pupils embark on their first challenge a three-day leadership course, which includes outdoor pursuits, teamwork and discussion. Later on, they have the opportunity to take part in personal development programmes such as World Challenge, Young Enterprise and the CSLA Youth leadership in sports programme. To further nurture leadership skills, we have an in-school hierarchy comprising The Judiciary a group of three of more Sixth Formers, elected by the whole school, who act as liaison between pupils and the Headmaster. House councils provide an opportunity for pupils to provide suggestions for competitions, charities and activities in which they can become involved. Membership of the Sixth Form opens all kinds of intellectual and cultural opportunities to our pupils. A weekly lecture programme, with visiting speakers, covers everything from politics and art to health and moral dilemmas. We are passionate about sport and our excellent range of sports courts and facilities allows pupils to learn the importance of team work and fair play. Pupils are encouraged and pushed to reach their full potential, but the primary aim is for pupils to enjoy their sport and to participate. We recently invested 100,000 in our dedicated Gymnasium Centre, installing new equipment and a sprung floor. This facility, along with our 25-metre indoor swimming pool and three dance studios, is available to Sixth Formers, as well as fixtures in Rugby, Hockey, Football, Cricket, Netball, Rounders. Swimming, Tennis, Basketball, Golf, Cross Country and Judo. The Head of Sixth Form takes an active interest in all our pupils, particularly in relation to time management, which will grow increasingly important as they work towards further education.
