2 About the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification Administered by the New England Resource Center for Higher Education & the Carnegie Foundation Involves data collection and documentation of important aspects of institutional mission, identity and commitments A process of self-assessment and quality improvement. 115 institutions received the classification in 2010: 61 public & 54 private; 37 research universities, 40 master's colleges, 28 are baccalaureate colleges, six community colleges, and four institutions have a specialized focus (arts, medicine, or technology). 361 institutions nationwide have received the Classification
