Along with the concentration selection, this degree program features open electives that allow you to take courses from across the University. ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS In addition to the standard University admissions requirements, you should possess an associate s degree or a bachelor s degree within the criminal justice field from an accredited institution and/or work experience in law enforcement, the military, or an associated area of criminal justice within 18 months of applying to the program. You will need to provide an unofficial copy of your transcript and/or proof of prior employment at the time of enrollment to verify your prior learning/experience. If you do not possess a prior degree, admission is at the discretion of the dean. CORRECTIONS CERTIFICATE This program is designed to prepare you for today s complex corrections environment. The field of corrections provides a variety of job opportunities including corrections officer; detention deputy; detention, booking, or public safety officer; correctional sergeant or deputy jailer; and jailer. Correctional officers perform a range of law enforcement roles in supervising and maintaining security in correctional facilities. Professionals in this field also interact with probation and parole officials. This program blends introductory criminal justice and corrections courses with field-specific courses in legal issues, crime prevention, and criminology. You can also choose between a course in applied ethics or supervisory practices. CRIME SCENE TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE This certificate program is designed to provide you with a foundational understanding of the analytical procedures used by crime scene technicians, as well as the documentation, collection, and preservation processes employed to handle evidence. Along with those just starting out, career-changers transitioning from fields such as allied health, law, and science may choose to become crime scene technicians. Qualified crime scene technicians can seek employment opportunities in insurance companies, law enforcement agencies, laboratories, large law firms, and medical examiners offices. Program coursework will cover evidentiary procedures in a criminal investigation, such as locating, collecting, and analyzing crime scene evidence, handling and processing physical evidence, identifying the boundaries of a crime scene, managing a crime scene, and searching the crime scene for specific types of evidence that can be used in a criminal prosecution. MANAGEMENT AND SUPERVISION CERTIFICATE IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE This program is designed to provide you with specialized knowledge relevant to managerial or supervisory positions in a broad range of criminal justice areas. Pursue leadership positions in corrections, corporate or environmental crime investigation, criminal investigation, federal or state law enforcement, loss prevention, private or public security, probation and parole, postal service inspection, or substance abuse. 13 11 PRIVATE SECURITY CERTIFICATE This program features 10 courses designed to introduce you to the field of private and corporate security, including the range of security responsibilities and how to provide asset protection to a myriad of clients. This program provides specialized knowledge relevant to positions in law enforcement, court systems, corrections, and private and corporate security. In addition, the Private Security Certificate could prepare you to sit for the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification exam 8 or help you qualify for membership in the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS). The Private Security Certificate program highlights the criminal justice system, principles of fraud examination, tort law, fraud examination, crime prevention, criminal investigation and criminal evidence, white-collar crime, and risk management and administration.

15 13 BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN FIRE AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT This bachelor s degree closely follows the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) curriculum model. The program is designed to help you pursue leadership roles that include managing all aspects of modern fire, EMS, and emergency preparedness agencies. Additionally, this program is targeted at those students who want to increase their administrative and management knowledge and skills. Prepare to work for government agencies at the federal, state, and local levels, as well as nonprofit and for-profit nongovernment organizations (NGOs) and corporations that work closely with the government. 2 Courses focus on in-depth management and public policy knowledge relevant to today s public sector.
