5 The Year Ahead It is a memorable year and it is a very important year. Year 12 will go very quickly for students and parents! Students will only get one go at Year 12 therefore, students need to give it their best shot. There should be no what if s. Routine and Preparation. Personal best emerges from hard work and consistent and honest application.
6 The Year Ahead (tune in!) Research all options proper planning rather than just chance. Students need to work closely with their teachers. Students need to look after themselves and find a balance. Set the tone early begin as you intend to finish.
7 The Year Ahead 1. Graduation from Lumen Christi College Complete all requirements for LCC Graduation Managed by the College Presented as part of College Graduation 2. Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) Complete all requirements for WACE Externally managed Received through the post
8 1. Graduation from Lumen Christi College Fully complete and pass Religion & Life Course (Retreats and Sacramental Programs). Full completion and submission of ALL Course requirements to an acceptable standard, as determined by the HOLA. Full completion of Community Service Hours (Years 8-11). Maintain a high standard of attendance and punctuality to school and classes (should not exceed ten days absent or late per Semester). Maintain the College's high standard of uniform/grooming. Those students who fail to meet the criteria above will be unable to achieve the Lumen Christi Graduation or participate in the College Graduation functions. * Committee of Review
9 Home Studies & Application Study improves focus, work ethic and academic results. Increases in study leads to corresponding increases in results. There is a critical point of study hours. Good study environments promote good study. Personal planning and organisation is essential. TIME + EFFORT = RESULTS
10 Studies & Application How much time is enough? What should I be doing each night? Each individual is different and their circumstances are different (a variety of subjects, assignment and exam requirements, different long term goals, etc.). For Year 12 students, aiming to achieve a competitive ATAR score, I believe that they should: Average hours of Home Studies per night. For Year 12 students, not aiming for direct University entrance and who wish to achieve competitive grades for TAFE, Traineeships, Apprenticeships, etc. I believe that they should: Average hours of Home Studies per night.
11 Attributes of High Achieving Students Full-time student... part-time everything else. Very focused and had goals or options in mind. Well organised both at school and at home. Were consistent with their application and studies. Effectively utilised all available resources Teachers, peers, Mentors, Revision Seminars, extra sessions, tutorials, etc. Were very connected to school life. Had a balanced approach to family, recreation, work and their studies. On average, completed... 2 hours of home studies per night.

13 The College Will support students in all of their endeavours to Graduate and to achieve their personal best with a view to life beyond Lumen Christi. Will provide significant Events to help shape and celebrate their final year Reflection Day, The Ball, Graduation, Productions, Sport, Seminars, etc. Will look to treat your son/daughter as Senior Students. Will work with and alongside each student so that they can achieve their best. Will continue to challenge each student and encourage them to improve. Will pray for them and wish the absolute best for them.
14 Responsibilities: The Students Strive to achieve your personal best. Apply yourself to school and stay connected to your family and your school. Work with your teachers. Set a positive example for other students to look up to your modeling is vital. Support each other. Personal excellence emerges at the end of a well-worn path of hard work, determination and a clear vision.
15 As Parents Take an interest. Offer to help, to assist with initial planning and drafting. Encourage commitment! Constantly encourage and praise. Make family and others aware of commitments. Help your son/daughter find the balance. Communicate with the College. Continue to love them unconditionally.

18 2. West Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) Complete 20 Units, or equivalents, in Years 11 and 12. Pass all three OLNA (Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessments) Components Numeracy, Reading and Writing. Achieve 14 C s or better with at least 6 coming from Year 12. Complete at least four Year 12 ATAR courses* or complete a Certificate II** (or higher***) VET qualification.
19 West Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) *In the context of ATAR courses in the WACE, the term complete requires that a student sits the ATAR course examination or has an approved sickness/misadventure application for not sitting the examination in that course. Students who do not sit the ATAR course examination will not have a course mark or grade recorded on their WASSA, nor will they receive an ATAR course report. Note: for ATAR courses with practical components, students must complete both the written and practical examinations.
20 West Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) **In the context of VET in the WACE, the term complete requires that a student has been deemed competent in all units of competency that make up a full qualification. ***The partial completion of a Certificate III or higher VET qualification may meet this requirement according to predetermined criteria
21 West Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) Breadth and depth requirement Students must complete a minimum of 20 units, which may include unit equivalents attained through VET and/or endorsed programs. This requirement must include at least: a minimum of ten Year 12 units, or the equivalent four units from an English course, post-year 10, including at least one pair of Year 12 units from an English course one pair of Year 12 units from each of List A (arts/languages/social sciences) and List B (mathematics/science/technology).
22 How are we tracking so far? (Please look at the document in the envelope) Some subjects may not have an exam score, it may have NaN. The Certificate courses may have PT which stands for progress on target and QA stands for Qualification Achieved. 1 = Excellent, 2= Good, 3 = Satisfactory, 4 = Inconsistent, 5 = Unsatisfactory
23 How are we tracking so far? How many C s or higher were achieved in Semester 2 last year? What do the performance indicators say about the application towards studies?
24 Assessment Structure and School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) All students are given an outline of the course plus an Assessment structure for each course. These documents include information on: What will be taught and when. Approximately when assessments will occur. The weighting of each assessment.
25 Assessment Policy and SCSA Submitting Assignments: Failure to submit assessment pieces results in incompletion of Course and qualifications which can lead to not fulfilling the 20 Course unit requirement and hence NOT GRADUATING.
