It should offer the major you are interested in studying and be a school you d be happy to attend if your other options don t work out. Target: A school which seems like a solid match for you based on the average GPA and SAT/ACT scores for the students they admit and which offers the major you intend to pursue. Reach: A school that would be a stretch for you to be admitted based on the average GPA and SAT/ACT scores for the students they admit and/or because they have a very low acceptance rate regardless of whether or not you meet their applicant profile. The list of schools that you apply to should be made up mostly of target schools with a couple safety and a couple reach schools. Apply broadly, but keep in mind that your chances of getting in to any single school are the same regardless of the number of schools you are applying to, so don t feel like you have to apply everywhere. Senior year can be stressful, especially during college application time. It s important to plan ahead and space out the work that needs to be done for applications so that you aren t stuck cramming at the last minute. Remember to maintain balance and keep up with healthy habits. If you start to feel very stressed out or overwhelmed, come see your Counselor remember that we are here to help
