2 WHAT IS MOVE ON WHEN READY? Move On When Ready is Georgia s dual enrollment program which provides HS students the opportunity to take college level coursework for credit which can be applied towards both high school and college graduation requirements.

3 How it works Apply College Admissions Student applies to the MOWR program at the college they are interested in attending as a HS student Student accepted or denied by the college depending on whether they meet the college s MOWR admission requirements (ex. test scores, GPA, etc.) Registration Student chooses classes from list of approved MOWR college courses Student will have both a college schedule and a Chattahoochee schedule Take Class(es) Student completes the course during the fall, spring and/or summer semester Final grades assigned by the college professor Transcripts Student then has a HS transcript and a college transcript MOWR grades and credits on college transcript are added to the HS transcript Graduate HS Continue Education College credits applied toward HS graduation requirements Apply to college Student may transfer earned college credits to college they attend after HS* *Students are responsible for verifying with any future college they want to attend which MOWR credits will be accepted and/or transferrable to that institution.

4 MOWR Eligibility Who can participate in MOWR? Students enrolled in a GA public or private high school Students going into 9 th, 10 th, 11 th, and 12 th grades (depending on college) Students who meet the MOWR admissions requirements at selected postsecondary institutions Meet high school requirements specific to Fulton County Must not have already received a high school diploma No residency or citizenship requirement

5 How much does it cost students to participate in MOWR? Its FREE!!!! The GA Student Finance Commission covers the cost of tuition, mandatory fees, and textbooks for approved classes. Students may only have to pay course-specific fees (ex. Science lab). The postsecondary institution cannot charge the student any additional tuition or mandatory fee costs for approved MOWR courses. Credit Hours paid for by MOWR are not counted toward the Attempted Hours or Combined Attempted Hours limit for HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarship at the postsecondary level.

6 Which college classes are approved for MOWR? *Each college has different course offerings approved for MOWR. Students can take courses in areas including: Core subjects: English, math, science, social studies, & world language Career, technical, agricultural, and elective courses Online courses *Courses available to each student will vary depending on grade level and college course pre-requisites. 8 MOWR Courses for Chattahoochee Students: On Chattahoochee s Campus College English Distance Math Taken thru GA State University Perimeter College College professor comes to Chattahoochee to teach the course Class meets 2 days a week (Tues/Thurs): 8:00-9:15am (1 st period) OR 11:30am-12:45pm (4 th period) 1 semester satisfies Senior English graduation requirement Taken thru GA Tech Students participate in course via videocast lecture Class meets 4 days a week 8:00-9:15am Mon-Thurs Student must have completed AP Calculus BC and score at least a 4 on the AP exam to be eligible to apply

9 MOWR Courses for Chattahoochee Students: On the College Campus Part Time Full Time Fewer than 12 credit hours per semester Total of credit hours per semester Blend of MOWR classes on the college campus and HS classes at Chattahoochee Schedule must have a total of 6 classes in any combination Need to coordinate MOWR courses with periods Chattahoochee classes are offered All classes are taken on the college campus No courses would be taken at Chattahoochee Student still enrolled at Chattahoochee and is fully eligible to participate in sports, extracurricular activities, clubs, and events.

Can articulate why he/she is interested in MOWR Meets college MOWR admissions requirements Can follow through on multi-step tasks Self-motivated Self-starter Mature Organized Takes initiative Responsible Has a specific pathway planned for graduation Can overcome any logistical challenges of traveling to and from the local high school and college

11 How does a Chattahoochee Student Participate in MOWR? Step 1: Decide if MOWR is a good fit for you and confirm you meet the college admission requirements. Step 2: Complete and submit the college s online application and some additional documents by the March 31 st deadline. Step 3: Submit all supplemental documents required by the college by the May 1 st deadline.

12 How does a Chattahoochee Student Participate in MOWR? ALL required documents due by the March 31 st deadline: College Application Transcript sent to College MOWR Funding Application Fulton County Schools MOWR Contract Student Participation Agreement *Required documents may vary depending on the individual college s admission requirements.

13 How does a Chattahoochee Student Participate in MOWR? ALL required supplemental documents due by the May 1 st deadline: Test Scores Parental Consent Form* Verification of Lawful Presence* Certificate of Immunization* *Supplemental documents may vary depending on the individual college s admission requirements.

14 Step 4: Admission Once students are accepted by the college. College will provide HS with final list of accepted students (May/June) Student will be notified by the college *NOTE: No MOWR classes will be added to student course requests or verification forms until a student has been accepted by the college. Step 5: On the college campus: Student attends any required orientation or information sessions for the college Student registers through the college for the classes they listed on their Student Participation Agreement Student will send their counselor a copy of their college schedule Step 6: On the HS campus: Counselor will put registered college classes in the student s high school schedule Student receives paperwork from the college to get textbooks from college bookstore MOWR coordinator will send the rosters of College English taught at Chattahoochee to Perimeter

15 MOWR Student Support and Transition School Counselor/Counseling Dept. College MOWR Representative/Staff Informs students/parents about MOWR Meets with students/parents interested in MOWR if need be Helps determine if student is a good fit for MOWR participation Advises student about mapping out MOWR and HS coursework, next steps, and meeting deadlines Works with student/family after the student has completed the college application and the GA Futures MOWR funding application to pay for tuition Communicates with School Counselor as needed Answers questions about the college application process Reviews application for admission and determines if student qualifies for MOWR Reviews MOWR & HS coursework and helps register the student for college courses Works with student after the student has completed the GA Futures MOWR funding application to pay for tuition

16 What are the expectations of students in MOWR? MOWR Students are expected to. Complete the application process themselves Meet deadlines for both the high school/fulton County school district and the college Remember you are a high school student AND a college student! Maintain communication with Chattahoochee clubs, athletics, class activities, events, etc. Check college account regularly *communication between the college and the MOWR student is primarily done via Communicate directly with the college with questions about MOWR application, registration, classes, grades, etc. Check personal account regularly *communication between the CHS MOWR coordinator/counselor and the MOWR student is primarily done via account student provides

Future MOWR students can start applying to their selected college now, however all future MOWR students will need to attend a Chattahoochee MOWR information session in early February.
