2 Career Guidance Team Vision Recognize the need for a K-14 career development curriculum aligned with professional standards (ASCA & NSDA) Increase student self awareness and early understanding of the world of work so they can participate fully in CTE pathways and career development opportunities. 3 Career Guidance Team Where did we find our motivation? need for a set of comprehensive and consistent grade level Career Guidance Practices (CGP) for all students countywide, in grades K 14. This comprehensive K-14 Career Guidance practice will ensure that as part of a College and Career Readiness plan, students begin to think through how their interests, skills, and personalities fit with the demands of 21 st century careers, and complete an established CTE pathway.

4 Career Guidance Team How did we do our work? We gathered exemplary practices in Orange County districts, yet no true K-14 practice can be found county-wide. Our search travelled nationwide to discover K-14 exemplary Career Guidance programs developed in several states. We discovered most exemplary programs require highly trained counselors, who are knowledgeable in the K-14 standards established by National Career Development Association and the American School Counselors Association.

5 Career Guidance Team Now what? Our hope is that our work may serve as a starting point and call to action in the county and in the state to create and adopt a K-14 scope and sequence of school counseling career guidance curriculum that will be delivered consistently to all students. *Statewide* *All Grade Levels* Regardless of geographic location, family income, academic ability, ethnic identity, social status, and personal career goals.

9 Student Education Plans Vision - Ensure all CTE students receive an educational plan in line with their academic and/or career goals to successfully transition into post-secondary institutions and career opportunities as positive, productive, and contributing members of society. Motivation Assist students in accessing personal goals. Develop options and models to allow students to have more opportunities throughout their educational tenure. Compare practices across districts for variety of tools available and approaches to enacting student educational plans.

11 How Our Team Carried Out Our Work Four sub-groups addressing: Marketing, Best Practices, Policy, and Resources. Research included public information from the Internet and communicating with professionals in the educational field. Documents and other findings were loaded onto the appropriate folders on a collective database.

22 Santa Ana Achieving College Partnership A collaborative effort between SAUSD, Padres Promotores, SAC, CSUF & UCI Phase 1: Early college planning 6 th 12 th grade for both parents and students Phase 2: SAUSD students receive priority registration to SAC spring semester of senior year Phase 3: The Adelante! Program supports students after matriculation (2011-present) Phase 4: Yearly research and program evaluation by all partners

23 What is Adelante!? Success oriented initiative serving over 3,000 students Focuses on academic achievement & personal growth Attainment of a Certificate, AA degree and/or Transfer Degree in every home in Santa Ana by year 2020 Provides guaranteed admission to Santa Ana Unified School District high school graduates transferring to CSUF or UCI California State University, Fullerton with a 2.8 GPA The University of California, Irvine with a 3.0 GPA

24 Adelante! Benefits Early Decision Participants register for college classes during the Spring semester of their senior year in high school. Introduction to College Orientation Students must attend CNSL N45 (0.5 units) two weeks prior their start date. Students will understand how the pathway works at every stage of their education. Students sign the Adelante Pledge. Free Tuition and Laptop Students may be eligible for free tuition and laptop their first year at SAC. Book Loan Scholarships Students are eligible for the book loan program. Dedicated scholarships available for Adelante students at SAC, CSUF, and UCI.

28 Highlights & Trends Adelante Cohort: CNSL N45 student survey results demonstrated an overall significant increase of 21% in transfer information knowledge and on-campus resources from pre to post-test 85.6% of incoming Adelante! students persisted from fall to spring in comparison to 68% of the general student population 90% of Adelante! female students and 78% of Adelante male students persisted from fall to spring semester prior to Adelante retention was less than 50% Incoming Adelante! students demonstrated higher rates of full-time enrollment with an average of 13.5 units their first semester, in comparison to 9.6 units for the general student population
