Participation in an international program with the Wisconsin School of Business will be a transformative experience that will benefit you academically, professionally, and personally. This packet contains important information about deadlines, the application process, and selection criteria. Please read the entire packet carefully, and direct any questions to International Programs using the contact information listed below. Minimum application requirements 3.0 cumulative GPA (maintained until term abroad) 54 credits earned before the term abroad 9 credits of business and/or economics Language requirements (Buenos Aires, Freiburg, Madrid, Santiago, Seville) See program websites for specific language requirements: In the cases where a language assessment is required, International Programs will contact admitted students with scheduling information. Application materials A complete application contains the following: Application packet (with attached responses to short answer questions), completed and signed Signed Statement of Responsibility (included in this packet) UW-Madison student record Your student record is an unofficial copy of your transcript and can be obtained through the Student Center in MyUW. If nominated by International Programs, you may need to submit official transcripts for all institutions attended to the partner institution. $350 program fee (Check or money order payable to UW-Madison. Cash and credit card are not accepted.) NOTE: The program fee is not a deposit against future host fees. 2 Selection and admission process Applicants nominated to programs administered by CIEE (Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Seville, Shanghai, and Tokyo) or affiliated direct enroll programs (Dublin, London, and Santiago) who meet the minimum requirements will have their nominations forwarded to the partner institution. Nominated students must then submit program specific application materials to the partner institution for admission consideration before admission is finalized. Page 2 All other programs have limited space. International Programs has the following selection policy: Applicants are initially ranked by academic performance, regardless of program. Additional consideration is given for students with prior relevant language, area studies or geographic interest and coursework in the country or region as well as compelling responses to the questions in this application. Some preference may be given to business, pre-business, and Certificate in Business students. Applicants are selected and assigned to programs based on their standing in the rank ordered list. Once students have been nominated, they must submit program specific application materials to the partner institution to finalize admission. These deadlines may be shortly after notification from International Programs. After a program fills, applicants are nominated to the next program on their list with space available (e.g. if both first and second choices are full, the student is nominated to the third choice). Only alternate programs that an applicant would actually accept should be listed. Listing only one program with no alternates does not increase chances for admission. If an applicant rejects a program listed as an alternate, he or she is placed at the bottom of any waitlists. Applicants who are not nominated to any program will receive a refund of the $350 program fee and will be placed on a waitlist. Students who are admitted to one of their alternate choices must follow the program fee refund policy (page 5) and will not be placed on a waitlist for their first-choice program. Students who have already had a semester abroad experience will be given lower priority. Students who do not meet the minimum requirements may be considered case-by-case on a space-available basis. What are my chances of getting in? International Programs cannot answer this question with any certainty as selection depends upon a variety of factors including the number of applicants and competitiveness of their applications. Scholarships The Wisconsin School of Business offers some scholarships to its semester study abroad participants. Information on scholarships administered by International Programs can be found on the International Programs website under the Financial Aid & Scholarships tab. A limited number of need-based scholarships may be available. To be considered for these scholarships, students must have a complete financial aid application on file with the Office of Student Financial Aid.

5 Page 5 Study abroad obligations Students selected to study abroad must: comply with all procedures and policies established by International Programs as explained on its website and in admission and orientation materials. attend IB 399: International Perspectives, a one-credit course with homework. Enrollment information will be included with acceptance information. Students studying abroad summer and fall 2012 will meet Tuesdays 3/20, 3/27, 4/10, 4/17, 4/24 and 5/1/12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Students studying abroad spring 2013 will receive more information in the fall about the course, which will be held in the latter half of the fall 2012 semester. be in good standing (i.e. not on academic probation) and remain in good standing until and through the term abroad. Program fee refund policy If you are not admitted to your first choice or any alternate programs: Program fee refunded in full. If you are admitted and decide not to attend: Program fee refunded if you withdraw in writing by April 16, Forfeit entire fee if you withdraw after April 16, If you are admitted and you wish to attend a different program: Space must be available in the desired program. Transfer the fee with no penalty within the same term. You must make a written request to International Programs no later than April 16, If you are admitted but you wish to attend the program in a different semester: Transfer the fee with no penalty if it is during the same academic year if space is available. You must make a written request to International Programs no later than April 16, If it is during a different academic year, you are deciding not to attend the program. In this case, follow the guidelines above for If you are admitted and decide not to attend. If you apply and do not know if you have been admitted to the Wisconsin School of Business for fall 2012: Students not admitted to the business school will be refunded the $350 fee if they choose not to participate in the program. Students will still be responsible for payments due to and refunds from affiliated partners (e.g. CIEE and housing providers). Note that non-business students are eligible to participate in business study abroad programs. Students admitted to the business school will not be granted any exceptions from the above policy. 6 Statement of Responsibility, Release of Liability, Authorization and Acknowledgement of Risks to participate in Study Abroad and Exchange Programs I,, hereby indicate my desire to participate in a study abroad/exchange program to sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Madison ( University ) during the period of to. Understand, that although the university has made every reasonable effort to assure my safety while participating in this study abroad program, there are unavoidable risks in travel and study overseas that may not ordinarily be encountered at home or on campus. Those risks include, but may not be limited to: traveling to and within, and returning from, one or more foreign countries; foreign political, legal, social and economic conditions; different standards of civil defense procedures, design, safety and maintenance of buildings, public places and conveyances; local medical and emergency services; local weather and environmental conditions; may result in minor injuries, more serious injuries including broken bones, and in some cases, even death. Knowing the risks described, and in consideration of being permitted to participate in the program, I agree, on behalf of myself, my spouse, my family, heirs and personal representatives, to assume all the risks and responsibilities surrounding my participation in the program. I hereby expressly agree that this release and waiver is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by the laws of Wisconsin and that if any portion is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance of the agreement shall continue in full legal force and effect.
