2 January 2017 The Career Development Center is pleased to present Career Destinations Saint Joseph s University Class of 2016, our annual report of post-graduate outcomes. Data contained in the report were obtained through a Career Development Center survey of January, May and September graduates of the Undergraduate Day, Professional and Liberal Studies, Haub Degree Completion Program and Graduate divisions of the university. Each graduate was contacted by between one and five times from July 2016 through November Additional information was also determined through university faculty and administrators and through LinkedIn.com. 3 Career Destinations Saint Joseph s University Class of 2016 Compiled by the Career Development Center January 2017 THE 2016 UNDERGRADUATE DAY REPORT Information is based on 769 graduates: 74.3% of the graduating class. 96% of the respondents are employed, pursuing additional education, and/or serving in full-time volunteer programs or in the military. Saint Joseph s University class of 2016 includes participants in prestigious and competitive post-graduate research and public policy programs; among them: a Post-Baccalaureate IRTA Fellow at the National Institutes of Health and a Columbia Intern working with Peace Brigades International. Service continues to attract SJU graduates in impressive numbers. 3% of the class of 2016 have committed to full-time volunteer service-based programs or to service in the United States Armed Forces. These graduates have been selected by such programs as Alliance for Catholic Education, AmeriCorps, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, Jesuit Volunteer Corps, JVC Northwest and Teach for America, as well as for service in the United States Air Force and the Army. The average total starting salary for the class of 2016 was $52,500, with an average base salary of $48,100 and an average bonus of $4,400. The average total starting salary for the class of 2015 was $50,800. Graduates who found their jobs through the Career Development Center s on-campus interviewing program had an average total salary of $57,400 (average base salary of $52,300 and average bonus of $5,100). 99.7% of graduates reported having participated in at least one semester-long experiential education program; such programs include internships, cooperative education, student teaching, faculty-sponsored research, part-time jobs resulting in the acquisition of transferable skills, service-based commitments, and study abroad. Graduates who reported having completed at least one experiential educational opportunity prior to graduation had an average total salary of $52,600. Graduates who had no such experience had an average total salary of $42,500, a difference of over $10,000. 2

7 The Career Development Center s Recruiting Program The Career Development Center s recruiting program includes many opportunities for students to connect with employers, both in person and online through SJUcareers, our job board. The number of employers who have recruited on campus includes those who have attended the career fair, interviewed on campus or hosted an information session. Over the past year, we ve experienced a 24% increase in the number of employers recruiting on campus, as well as a 6% increase in the number of employers posting full time entry level and internship opportunities in SJUcareers, which is a testament to the talent employers consistently find on campus at Saint Joseph s University. Graduates of the class of 2016 who went on to graduate study and who were awarded scholarship or grant funding received an average of over $26,000. Awards ranged from $2,000 to $105,000, with many graduates receiving grants for full tuition with room and board included. Over 50% of the graduates enrolled in continuing education were awarded some type of funding for graduate study, with awards totaling nearly $450,000. Of those not currently continuing their education, 367 graduates reported future plans for academic study. 53% indicated they planned to continue their education within 1-2 years, 35% within 3-4 years and 12% in 5 or more years. THE 2016 PROFESSIONAL AND LIBERAL STUDIES AND HAUB DEGREE COMPLETION PROGRAM REPORT The following includes highlights from the survey of 2016 Professional and Liberal Studies and Haub Degree Completion Program graduates. Information is based on 34 respondents, representing 32% of graduates. 8

Of those not currently continuing their education, 65% of respondents indicated they had plans to do so in the future, as depicted in the chart below. In addition, 15% of those who are employed full-time are also continuing their education on a full- or part-time basis. 12 THE 2016 MASTER S AND DOCTORAL DEGREE PROGRAMS REPORT The following includes highlights from the survey of 2016 graduates of Saint Joseph s University master s and doctoral degree programs. Information is based on 313 graduates, 29% of the class. 96% of graduates are employed, pursuing additional education and/or serving in full-time volunteer programs or in the military. 89% of graduates are employed full-time. Those seeking employment totaled 4%. The average total salary for master s and doctoral degree program graduates of 2016 was $82,000 (average base salary of $72,000; average bonus of $10,000). The average salary for graduates of Graduate Business programs was $100,700 (average base salary of $87,400; average bonus of $13,300). For graduates of Graduate Arts & Science programs, the average total salary was $72,100 (average base salary of $63,100; average bonus of $9,000). Previous Employment Experience and Current Industry Master s and Doctoral Degree Program Graduates Class of 2016 Forty-three percent of master s and doctoral degree graduates had 7 or more years prior work experience upon beginning their graduate studies; 20% had between 4 and 6 years ; and 28% had between 1 and 3 years. The vast majority of graduates from graduate degree programs (89%) reported working full-time.
