7 SECTION 2: Continued Please read the sections below carefully: MEDIA During the summer school photographs and video footage of participants may be taken for documentation purposes and to remind them of their experience. We may wish to use some of this material to promote future activities and events to other students, schools and colleges and as part of our evaluation. If you do NOT wish your son/daughter s image to be used in this way, please tick. DATA PROTECTION The information you and your son/daughter provide will be used to assess your son s/daughter s eligibility for the summer school. We would like to create a student record for him/her. We do this for two reasons, firstly to stay in touch, which might include invitations to events, good luck cards and information about applying to university, and secondly to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of our Widening Participation programme. This may include short questionnaires or other evaluation activity and the monitoring of progression of your son/daughter from school/college into university (to see if they choose to go). Student details may be shared with other educational bodies in order to do this such as UCAS and the Higher Education Access Tracker (or similar or replacement bodies). The information will be stored confidentially by the University under the terms of the Data Protection Act Where information is used in public reports it will be anonymous. If you agree to us being able to share your data but later change your mind you can opt out at any time by contacting us at wideningparticipation@bath.ac.uk giving us your full name and asking for your student record to be deleted. RESPONSIBILITIES While we make every effort to ensure students safety and wellbeing at all times, all summer school participants will be treated as responsible adults and will be required to sign and agree to our Code of Conduct. The University will help organise travel to the summer school but while travelling to and from the summer school all participants are responsible for themselves and their behaviour. During the summer school students will be given temporary login access to computer facilities and will be allowed to use those facilities, under supervision, to complete their work. They must at all times follow the University of Bath s acceptable use policy. 10 Eligibility Criteria In order to be eligible for a summer school students must meet the academic criteria for the summer school they are applying to and at least one of our widening participation criteria below. Academic Criteria: Information on the specific academic criteria for each summer school can be found by going to: and following the link to the specific summer school you are interested in. Widening Participation Criteria The student lives in a Low Participation Neighbourhood (LPN) as defined by home postcode Their parents work in non-managerial, non-professional, non-technical occupations Neither parent has attended university in the UK or abroad They are, or have been, a looked-after young person The student has a disability or specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia The student has experienced difficult family or individual circumstances that have affected their performance in exams or the likelihood of their going to university The student is a refugee or asylum seeker You can check if an applicant s home is in a 'Low Participation' Neighbourhood by typing their postcodes into the postcode checker at: A student lives in a 'Low Participation' Neighbourhood if the 'POLAR3 Young Participation Quintile' is 1 or 2. 10
