2 Eligibility To be eligible for the program, students must: Have successfully completed at least one semester at Northwood University and have completed any prerequisite requirements A cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 or above. NOTE: Students on academic or disciplinary probation are not eligible for study abroad programs. Students must be in good academic standing during the program itself. If students are in good standing when they apply for exchange programs, but are put on academic or disciplinary probation between the time of application and the starting date of the program, the student becomes ineligible to participate in the exchange. 3 Overview Students who are accepted to the program will travel to Greece, enjoying breathtaking vistas, visiting cities, touring museums and many great pieces of architecture from the height of the Greek civilization! The program will consist of travel within Greece. Each student will be expected to attend two pre-departure lectures, complete a pre-departure assignment, maintain a detailed daily journal while on the trip in which they reflect upon the aspects of Greek history and culture they encountered, and complete post trip a project/exam as listed under the course materials. Students accepted into the program must also attend several mandatory orientation sessions that will be held before departure. Dates for these orientation sessions will be set once the final roster of participants is complete. The travel schedule is as follows: NOTE: When traveling abroad, flexibility is important. Sometimes plans need to be adjusted, so the schedule is subject to change. Students who are accepted into the program will receive a number of updates with more specific details regarding travel and the program. There will be some free time built into the schedule so that students may explore on their own. Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 Day 8 Day 9 Departure from U.S. Arrive in Athens, Greece Athens tour/ Acropolis Museum Saronic Islands Delphi/Olympia Arolida Epidaurus/Mycenae Athens Depart for U.S. Academic Program Students who apply and are accepted to the program will be enrolled in MTH 3850: Special Topics or HUM 3850: Special Topics and will earn 3 hours of credit for successfully participating in the program and fulfillment course requirements. The course can be used as a substitute for a global, math, or general elective. Students will complete all pre coursework, assignments while in the Greece, and post coursework due after the program.

4 Travel All Northwood students participating in this program will depart from and return to the US as a group. Roundtrip airfare from the US to Greece is part of the program fee, and Northwood University will purchase air tickets for each student participating in the program. You should NOT purchase your own airline. Note that individual students are responsible for getting to and from the departing airport. You must have a valid passport to participate in this program. Obtaining a passport is YOUR responsibility. If you have not started the process, do it now. ****You MUST have your passport in hand on or before March 1, **** You must confirm receipt of your passport to the International Programs office. Costs Program cost: $4700 ($150 discount for students signing up before September 30th, 2017) $500 deposit due with the application (non-refundable if an early application with $150 discount) Balance of $4200 due on March 1 st 2018 Financial balances must be paid in full before departure. The program fee includes: tuition for 3 credit hours roundtrip airfare to and Greece ground transportation in Greece international travel insurance preferred health plan for international students all hotel accommodations while in Greece transportation and entry tickets to all venues planned group activities and excursions some group meals (all breakfast, 1 lunch, and 4 dinners) The fee does not include: Travel to and from the U.S. airport for departure and upon arrival back in the U.S. Individual lunches and dinners All activities and travel not listed above (personal travel taxis etc.) Personal expenses such as souvenirs, meals, clothing, etc. Any individual passport/visa

5 Applications and Deadlines Applications and Deadlines Your application will consist of: 1. the application form 2. the nomination form (to be completed and sent in by a Northwood faculty member, other than the leading faculty) 3. a course substitution form (you need to approach an academic advisor in completing this form) 4. deposit (paid to the business office) The scholarship form is optional A copy of the photo page of your passport (if you have it) must accompany the application. The nomination form is a crucial element of your application, which cannot be considered without it. Applicants will be notified in writing as to whether or not they have been accepted to the program. Applications are available on the web, Blackboard, at the front desk of the Church Administration Building on and should be completed and returned to the office of International Programs. You will be notified within one week of this deadline whether or not you have been accepted to the program. The number of participants for this program will be capped at 20. If the number of applications exceeds spaces, a waiting list will be maintained. Upon notification of your acceptance to the program, you must return an acceptance form. 5

6 Standards of Behavior For this program, it is essential that each participant make an effort to get along with everyone else and to be courteous to our hosts. Students will be asked to review and sign a standards of behavior document prior to departure. A student who disregards these standards, in spite of warnings, may be dismissed from the program. Insurance As part of the program fee, Northwood University will purchase, on behalf of the student, a study abroad insurance and a limited preferred health plan for international travel but Northwood University strongly recommends that students NOT rely solely on the insurance that is purchased by the University. Students are responsible for any other health insurance, and they should check with their insurance provider as to coverage for health and medical insurance while traveling abroad. Cancellations Policy Cancellations prior to February 12, 2018 Participants with early application discount will forfeit the $500 non-refundable deposit Cancellations from February 12, 2018 until 45 days prior to departure Full refund less a $1,250 cancellation fee and $500 deposit Cancellations 44 days or less prior to departure No refund will be issued 6

12 Study abroad scholarship policy Please note the study abroad scholarship policy now in effect for the academic year: 1. All study abroad scholarship requests must be made in writing to via to: The request should include: student s full name, student ID and the name of the specific program to which the student is applying, and a brief (no more than 1 page) statement of financial need (any information that would demonstrate need). 2. Students must have a complete program application on file (including the faculty reference form and course substitution form) in order to be considered for a scholarship. Students who do not have a complete application on file will be notified that their request is pending until the application is complete. 3. Scholarship applications must be received by the published application deadline for the specific program. Scholarship requests for specific programs will be reviewed by the study abroad scholarship committee immediately following the published application deadline for that program. The Director of International Education will then communicate the committee s decision to the applicant. 4. Scholarship requests are based solely on financial need. There is no fixed amount per scholarship award. Any scholarship awards are intended to assist students with the cost of study abroad, but will not cover the entire cost of any program. 5. Scholarship funds, if awarded, are credited to the student s university account. Scholarship funds cannot be used as cash or to support cash expenses for a study abroad program. 12
