2 Course Selection Process Students should review the Program of Studies (POS) and complete a course selection sheet in the back of the POS. Students will use the Home Access Center (HAC) to complete course selection for the school year. We are here today to work with you on this step in the course selection process.

3 Course Selection Process (cont.) Between 12/8/15 and 2/26/16 counselors will schedule individual meetings with students to review their course selection. Students will have access to make changes to their course selection in HAC until they meet with their counselor or until Monday, January 4 th, whichever comes first. After students meet with their counselor all of their course requests will be locked in HAC.

4 Course Selection Process (cont.) After students meet with their counselor all course selection changes must be made using an Elective Course Selection Change Form. The forms can be found in the guidance office. The forms need to be filled out completely and submitted to your guidance counselor. The deadline for course selection changes is April 29, 2016.

5 Course Selection in HAC You will need: Your POS with the completed course selection sheet. Handout titled Directions For Course Selection Using HAC Laptop or Chromebook Know your network username/password and your HAC username/password

6 Starting on step #2 on the directions handout. 2) Access the internet using Internet Explorer - go to the Pennsbury High School webpage. On the right hand side click on the link Course Selection. 3) Click on Click here to Login to HAC. If this 3) Click on Click here to Login to HAC. 7 4) Use your HAC login information to login to HAC (Home Access Center). 5) When HAC opens, you will see your Demographic Information. Select the Classes icon.

8 6) Select Requests.

9 7) You will notice that some course requests have already been selected for you. Based on the core courses you are schedule in this year (English, Math, Science, Social Studies) we have already loaded course requests for next year. Most of these course requests are also locked.

10 8) Scroll down to the department you want to select. Click the Edit button for that department.

11 9) Once you select a department to add a course request another window will open with the available courses. Notice the Course Status Key, this section explains the meaning of the icon next to some courses.

12 10) To select a course, click on the check box under the Request column. Once you have selected all of your regular requests for this department click Save.

13 11) Repeat steps #9 and 10 to enter all of your regular course requests. Students will not be entering course requests for PE or Health. PE and Health course requests will be added when you meet with your counselor.

14 12) Now you will begin entering your alternate course requests. An alternate course request musthave the same credit value as the regular course request it is an alternate to, please see the example below from the course selection sheets in the POS.

15 13) To select an alternate course, click on the check box under the Request column. Under the Alternate column click on the pull down options and select Alternate to this Course. Then select the regular course request that you want this course to be an alternate to. The alternate course CANNOT be an alternate to a core course. Click Save when you are finished entering alternates for this department.

16 All alternates must use the Alternate to this Course option. Alternate electives can only be selected to other elective courses. If you use the Alternate to Any Course option or if you select an alternate to a core course then your alternate will be deleted. The more correctly selected alternates you have for your electives the more likely you will receive a schedule with electives you selected. 14) Repeat step #13 as needed to add all of your alternate courses.

17 Every student should have 7 regular course requests. The 0.5 credits for PE and Health will be added when you meet with your counselor. You may have as many alternate credits as you chose. The more correctly selected alternates you have for your electives the more likely you will receive a schedule with electives you selected. If your regular requests do not fit in your schedule and you have not chosen alternates then your classes will be selected by an administrator. Total Credits Must = 7 Alternate Credit Total
